Abstract

Ukuran batuan 30.27 cm

Abstract

Introduction: Paneki River has the potential for sedimentation caused by flow discharge. The condition of the river is getting wider every day which will threaten the risk of flooding if there is heavy rain with high intensity. The purpose of this study is to determine the return time flood discharge and basic sediment transport discharge in the Paneki river which can be used as a reference in planning sediment control buildings. Method: This research method includes primary data collection and secondary data collection, data management including calculating width, slope, design rainfall, design flood discharge, sieve analysis, and specific gravity. Then proceed to calculate the return time flood discharge using the Nakayasu synthetic unit hydrograph method and basic sediment transport using the Meyer-Peter and Muller method. Results and Discussion: From this research, the result of the 2-year return time flood discharge is 121.306 m3/det, for 5-year return time flood discharge is 185.069 m3 /det, for 10-year return time flood discharge is 209.261 m3 /det, for 25-year return time flood discharge is 312.359 m3 /det, and for 50-year return time flood discharge is 373.566 m3 /det. The results of basic sediment transport discharge per cross-section ranged from 0.0000861 m3 /det to 0.005641775 m3 /det. Conclusion: The study shows that sedimentation is influenced by flow discharge. The results of the calculation of flow discharge (Q) and bottom sediment transport (Qs) in Paneki River using the Meyer-Peter and Muller method resulted in Qs varying from 0.0000861 m³/det to 0.016551197 m³/det, according to the measured flow discharge. The greater the flow discharge, the greater the sediment transport, indicating a direct relationship between flow discharge and sedimentation.

Abstract

Drought events worldwide are increasingly becoming a critical issue due to their negative impacts on water resources. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of drought to plan disaster mitigation measures. This study detected meteorological drought in the trend domain using the Standardized Rainfall Index (SPI) in the Dolago River Basin. Monthly rainfall data for 20 years (2003-2022) from two meteorological stations (Dolago Bendung and Dolago Padang) were used in this study. SPI was used to reconstruct drought events and characterize the trend of drought events. Drought frequency was estimated as the ratio of the specified severity to the total number of events. Changes in drought events were detected using the non-parametric Man-Kendall trend test. The main drought conditions detected by SPI are severe drought, moderate drought, near normal, moderate wet, very wet, and very wet conditions. From these results, the SPI value fluctuated greatly from month to month. In the first decade (2003-2012), many normal conditions occurred, and changes from wet to dry months did not occur suddenly. In contrast to the second decade (2013-2022), the normal conditions are reduced from the first decade and the weather conditions change rapidly. The SPI value, which represents seasonal conditions, shows that dry conditions in various categories are more prominent in the second decade, while wet conditions are almost the same between the first and second decades. Trend analysis shows that most SPI values ??experience a decreasing/negative trend, but not all are significant at the 90% level. The SPI value is significant in April (-1.65) and December (-3.41). It is recommended that these findings be adopted for decision-making related to the drought early warning system in the watershed

Abstract

River bends are hydraulically complex zones characterised by centrifugal-force-driven secondary currents that produce differential water surface elevations, asymmetric velocity distributions, and lateral sediment transport. This study presents a two-dimensional (2D) hydrodynamic analysis of the water surface profile along a meandering reach of the Palu River (SP 304–SP 318), located in Tulo Village, Dolo District, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. The RMA2 finite-element module within the Surface Modelling System (SMS) Aquaveo was employed. A 50-year return-period flood discharge (Q₅₀ = 387.85 m³/s) was estimated using the Snyder Synthetic Unit Hydrograph method, based on 15 years (2007–2021) of daily rainfall data from three meteorological stations. The Log Pearson Type III distribution was selected through Chi-square goodness-of-fit tests. A triangular 2D mesh at 5 m spacing was constructed in UTM Zone 49 WGS84 coordinates, and model calibration yielded a Manning roughness coefficient n = 0.01, matching the field-measured mid-channel velocity of 0.20 m/s. Under Q₅₀ conditions, the simulated maximum flow velocity is 2.88 m/s (SP 313–SP 314, pre-bend segment), maximum water depth is 3.408 m (outer bank), and the highest water surface elevation is 26.831 m above sea level (upstream boundary). The outer bank consistently exhibits higher velocities and water surface elevations than the inner bank, confirming superelevation and active scour at the concave bank. These findings provide critical hydrodynamic data for river bank protection and flood management planning along the Palu River corridor.
