Abstract

The combination of ginger and white turmeric is the right way to make instant powder drink preparations. The content of gingerol in ginger and curcumin in white turmeric is useful as a natural diuretic (urine laxative). Instant powder drink preparations are made of 2 formulas with different variations of sweeteners, namely formula 1 with 100% granulated sugar and formula 2 with a combination of granulated sugar and brown sugar (3:1). This study was to determine the effect of variations in sugar on physical characteristics and the level of preference of panelists for the preparation of an instant powder drink containing a combination of ginger rhizome and white turmeric. Making instant powder drinks using the crystallization method Physical test data was analyzed by the Independent Sample T-Test. The test results showed that the two formulas met the powder test requirements with the pH value, setting, moisture content, flow time, and angle of repose in formula 1 each being 6.53; 9.3%; 0.26%; 15.63 grams/second; and 31.62, while formula 2 is 6.19; 5.6%; 1.04%; 11.55 grams/second; and 36.44. The hedonic test shows that there is a significant difference in preference values where formula 2, with a combination of sugar and brown sugar (3:1), is more preferred by the panelists.

Abstract

A mixture of angkak and red ginger is a Chinese herbal concoction with potential as an antioxidant. This herbal combination can be extracted using the kinetic hot maceration method by optimizing the stirring speed to be more efficient. Previous studies have shown that using 400, 600, and 800 rpm stirring speeds provides the best IC50 and yield. Based on these problems, this research aims to determine the effect of increasing stirring speed on IC50 and % yield in the extraction of angkak and red ginger, as well as prove the benefits of this herbal combination through the IC50 value. The method used is extracting a mixture of angkak and red ginger at kinetic variations of 400, 600, and 800 rpm using a magnetic hotplate stirrer at a temperature of 60ºC for 2 hours; determination of % yield; determining the chromatogram profile using TLC; determination of antioxidant activity using DPPH; as well as data analysis of percentage yield and IC50 using SPSS. Analysis using SPSS shows that the stirring speed significantly affects the % yield, where increasing the moving speed above 400 rpm results in a decrease in the % yield. However, the moving speed does not affect the IC50. The TLC chromatogram profile shows the presence of 6-gingerol compounds in angkak and red and yellow pigment compounds in red ginger, which have potential as antioxidants. The optimization results in this study obtained optimal % yield and IC50 at 400 rpm with average values, respectively, namely 15.933 ± 3.4771% and 103.76 ± 10.032 ppm, and the combination of angkak and red ginger ingredients can work synergistically to increase yield and antioxidant.

Abstract

The senggani plant is reported to have antioxidant activity owing to its flavonoid content, which is a free radical scavenger. The water fraction of senggani leaves needs to be prepared for use, one of which is the emulgel. An important additional ingredient in emulgels is the gelling agent, and the most commonly used is carbopol 940. This study aimed to determine the formulation of emulgel preparations with the most stable variation in carbopol 940 and to test the antioxidant activity of water fraction emulgel preparations from senggani leaves (Melastoma malabatricum L.). The preparations were made by varying the concentrations of Carbopol 940 to 0.5% (F1), 1.25% (F2), and 2% (F3). Physical stability evaluations included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesive power, viscosity, and antioxidant tests for 28 days. The results of the research showed that the emulgel that tested the physical stability of emulgel preparations with each concentration produced the best emulgel, F3 with an emulgel concentration of 2%, with a pH of 5.32-5.19, spreadability of 4.47-5.53 cm, adhesive power of 31. 21 -25.64 seconds, and viscosity of 47520-34853 cP. The IC50 value of the emulgel preparation is 17870.83-14851.28 ppm, with statistical test results of sig. (p-value) > 0.05, which means that storage has no effect on the emulgel preparation. The conclusion of this research is the best concentration of Carbopol as gelling agent of emulgel is 2% with the antioxidant activity is very weak Keywords:  emulgel; senggani leaf water fraction; carbopol 940; IC50

Abstract

Ginger and celery extracts are recognized anti-dandruff agents. Managing dandruff can be accomplished by creating a cleanser formulation. Shampoo contains an essential cleansing ingredient known as surfactant. SLS enables good foams, but at >10% concentration, it irritates skin. Adding a nonionic surfactant like cocamide DEA reduces irritation. This study examined how cocamide DEA concentrations affected the physical qualities and hedonic evaluation of a shampoo containing ginger and celery extracts. The shampoo was produced in three formulas with differing cocamide DEA concentrations: F1 (6%), F2 (8%), and F3 (10%). The formulation is evaluated using organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, bulk density, foam height, foam stability, cycling, hedonic, and irritant studies. The result of this study revealed that shampoo had a brownish-orange color, a ginger-mint scent, and different looks. All three formulations were homogeneous, did not separate during cycling, and had significant viscosity variances, pH, bulk density, foam height, and foam stability. The formula with an 8% cocamide DEA concentration was the most popular and did not produce irritation. In conclusion, varying cocamide DEA concentrations affect the physical properties and preferences of panelists in a shampoo formulation that includes ginger and celery extracts.

Abstract

Red ginger and angkak are often combined in Chinese cuisine to maintain health. Both of these ingredients are known to have potent antioxidant activity respectively, but the combination of red ginger and angkak has never been studied. The purpose of this research is to see the effect of the amount of red ginger on the percentage of yield and antioxidant activity in the combination of red ginger and angkak. Red ginger and angkak extracts are combined, each ingredient is extracted singly. The amount of red ginger was varied, namely 10, 20, 30, and 40 g. In comparison, the number of angkak remains at 55 g. Both materials were extracted by kinetic heat at a temperature of 600C and a stirring speed of 800 rpm for 120 minutes. The yield percentage of the viscous extract obtained was calculated, and its antioxidant activity was analyzed using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. In addition, the chromatogram profile test of red ginger and angkak was also carried out. Increasing the amount of red ginger in the red ginger - angkak extract did not have a significant effect (p>0.05) on the yield percentage but had a significant effect (p<0.05) by increasing the antioxidant activity of the red ginger - angkak extract. The combined extracts' antioxidant activity was less than the red ginger extract. The ginger chromatogram profile shows ten different spots, while angkak has three different spots.

Abstract

Angkak and red ginger, which represents West Borneo’s Chinese ethnic group’s herbal cooking, were studied to produce antioxidant activity through shogaol along with monacolin K and respond to DPPH (2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) test. This research aims to combine the two ingredients into extracts and observe how they affect the yields and IC50 value. Methods were started with the extraction of both materials in a variety of simplicia powder weights using 800 rpm stirring speed at 60°C for 120 minutes. The extracts were then tested for percentage yield (%), Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), and half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) value. IBM SPSS Statistics 25 analysis was also carried out at the end for yields and IC50 values data. Results showed that the angkak addition affected the IC50 value without giving any significant impact on each yield amount (p-value>0,05). Increased angkak in the variations led to the IC50 values decrease, ranging from 122.996 ppm (Mix 1) to 225.399 ppm (Mix 3). Angkak’s pigments and red ginger’s polyphenol compounds which provide antioxidant ability were found to occupy Mix extracts based on the TLC profile. In conclusion, angkak decreased the DPPH antioxidant activity of its extract combination with red ginger, but did not affect the yield percentage.
