Abstract

A well-planned pregnancy procedure will benefit the fetus's health and the mother's physical and psychological adaption to pregnancy. Unwanted pregnancies and on-time pregnancies in a woman might be classified as situations of unmet need. Along with pregnancy, this influence on the mother's unpreparedness to conceive can even lead to the decision to undergo an unsafe abortion. This study aimed to elicit data on the features of premarital couples' preparation for a safe pregnancy and their association with knowledge about pregnancy preparation. The study used a cross-sectional design and purposive sampling to examine 57 premarital couples and then utilizing the chi-square to analyze data. The study's findings indicate that respondents will marry at a high risk of pregnancy. There are still some couples who lack adequate knowledge about pregnancy preparation and have not received adequate counseling. There is a significant relationship between the bride and groom's ages and their level of knowledge about preparing for a healthy pregnancy (p-value 0.000), level of education and level of knowledge (p-value 0.000), perspective and level of knowledge (p-value 0.000), and history of exposure to information and level of knowledge (p-value 0.000). Increased marriage age, greater education level, and provision of relevant information will assist married couples in supporting increased knowledge that is more adequate for pregnancy preparation.

Abstract

The postpartum period begins with the birth of the baby and placenta. This is when a woman has an additional role as a mother. Changes that occur both physically and psychologically need to be facilitated so that various complications or disorders do not occur. Physical and psychological problems in postpartum mothers still often occur, such as postpartum infections and postpartum blues. This problem can have a big impact and even cause death if not handled properly. It is hoped that the support of the surrounding environment, especially the husband, can ensure the continuity of the postpartum mother's adaptation process, both physical and psychological adaptation, which can run well. The research aimed to determine the effect of a husband's support on the physical and psychological adaptation process of postpartum mothers. The research used a cross-sectional method on 50 postpartum mothers on days 7 to 14. The research instrument used a questionnaire filled out by respondents and observations of the mother's condition. The research results showed that there was a significant relationship between husband's support and physical and psychological adaptation in postpartum mothers, with a p-value <0.05.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a condition where the height of children under five years of age is far below the age standard due to chronic malnutrition and other health problems. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and various national health institutions, stunting can have a long-term impact on children's cognitive development, health and well-being. Traditionally, the role of childcare is often considered the mother's responsibility, while the father's role is often focused on financial aspects. Objective: to obtain information about fathers' perspectives in caring for babies and toddlers to prevent stunting. Method: This research is qualitative research involving 96 father respondents. The inclusion criteria for fathers were fathers who were healthy and had children aged infants or toddlers. Results: From this study it was still found that the majority showed sufficient awareness of the importance of nutrition for their children, but their knowledge was often limited to basic information and did not fully understand the details of a proper diet or the importance of regular health checks. Fathers' involvement in health visits and child health consultations is often more limited. Fathers tend to rely on mothers for decisions regarding health and treatment, despite fathers' awareness of the importance of routine check-ups and immunizations. Conclusion: the father's role cannot yet be said to be optimal to help prevent stunting because there are still values that assume this function lies with the mother. There is a need to increase the optimization of the father's role in addition to increasing knowledge capacity.

Abstract

Background: Gender inequality significantly affects women's reproductive health and overall well-being. Midwives play a crucial role in addressing these issues through gender-equitable practices. Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of gender equality-based learning programs in shaping the character of undergraduate midwifery students. Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 298 midwifery students in DKI Jakarta was conducted. Data collection used sequential sampling and a validated questionnaire distributed via Google Forms. Logistic regression analyzed associations between students' characteristics and gender-equitable character. Results: Students with poor gender knowledge were 30 times more likely to exhibit gender-inequity characters (OR=30.18, 95% CI=11.40-79.91). Negative attitudes towards gender concepts increased the risk of gender-inequity characters by 44% (OR=1.44, 95% CI=1.05-1.98). A learning environment lacking gender equity doubled this risk (OR=2.83, 95% CI=1.98-4.04). Conclusion: Incorporating gender-equitable concepts and practices into midwifery curricula is essential for developing gender-equitable midwives. This integration could reduce gender disparities and improve health outcomes.

Abstract

The independence of postpartum mothers can be achieved if the midwifery care activities are based on good cooperation between midwives in providing knowledge and motivation to postpartum mothers in meeting their needs. What is very much needed in postpartum care is the provision of adequate and quality postpartum care. In such situations, the role of the midwife in assisting the health of the individual is very important. The aim of the research is to determine the effectiveness of health education using audiovisual media on the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of postpartum mothers' independence, so that postpartum mothers remain healthy in fulfilling their role as new mothers. Additionally, postpartum mothers can continue to perform their usual activities. This research method uses a quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-tests with a control group. The data collection technique was conducted through purposive sampling. The sample size for the study uses hypothesis testing for the difference in means between two independent groups. The data collection technique was carried out by purposive sampling. The sample size of the study used a hypothesis test of the average difference in two independent groups (Lameshow, 2001) so that the number of 30 treatment respondents and 30 control respondents was obtained. Data analysis used paired t-test and Independent t-test statistical tests. The results of the study showed an increase in knowledge, attitudes and behavior in controlling postpartum maternal hypertension in the intervention group. There was a significant difference in knowledge, attitudes and behavior in postpartum mothers about postpartum maternal independence between the intervention group and the control group after the intervention (p value: 0.000). Health education using audiovisual media for postpartum mothers about postpartum maternal independence can be replicated for use in various health service settings.

Abstract

There have been 85 million pregnancies worldwide are unplanned pregnancies. Of these unwanted pregnancies, 38% ended in abortions, miscarriages, and unplanned deliveries. Efforts to prevent unwanted pregnancies have been attempted in various ways by various parties. At the beginning of 2022, based on media exploration for the Play Store and YouTube applications, we found several applications and videos related to preparing for a healthy pregnancy. Search results from various online media have not specifically focused on the role of men (prospective fathers) in preparing for a healthy pregnancy. With the preparation of healthy pregnancies by men as prospective fathers, it is hoped that the pregnancy occurring can be properly prepared and planned. This study used a quasi-experimental method. The research was conducted at one Community Health Center in the East Jakarta Region. Respondents were prospective grooms (fathers) who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The number of respondents was 96 people. The research instrument used was a pre-and post-intervention questionnaire. The treatment given to respondents was providing educational media using video and leaflet media—analysis of research data using univariate analysis, chi-square, and different tests (independent T-test). Two of the respondent's characteristic variables have a significant relationship with the respondent's level of knowledge about healthy pregnancy preparation, namely education level (P value 0.000) and history of information exposure ((P value 0.000). Two of the respondent's characteristic variables have a significant relationship with the respondent's participation in pregnancy preparation healthy, namely the level of income (P value 0.000) and history of information exposure ((P value 0.05). There is a significant difference (<0.000) in the mean level of knowledge and level of participation of respondents in preparation for healthy pregnancies before and after providing education. The group using the media Video-based education has a higher mean participation rate than the group using leaflets (significance <0.05).

Abstract

Breast models are one of the learning media used by simulated patients in midwifery care practicums. Simulated patients' perspective is a new understanding in the selection of learning media. It is hoped that the results of the reflection carried out by the simulation patient can be used for the procurement of laboratory equipment and the development of designing learning models that are lower cost but have good effectiveness. This study aims to obtain group reflections from simulation patients regarding breast models used by simulation patients for midwifery cares scenario. This research is conducted by descriptive-analytic research. The sample in this research is the total population of the simulated patients in one midwifery school in Jakarta (24 respondents). Data collection was carried out through questionnaires. There are 3 breast models. We coded these three models into A, B, and C. The research results show that based on model function indicators, model B has a better function with a mean of 4.00 compared to model A (mean 3.18) and model C (mean 3.93). Based on model design, model B is also considered to have the best design (mean 3.67) compared to models A and C. The results of this study show that the most recommended model to use is model B (91.6%), followed by model C (66.7%) and model A (50%). The simulation patient recommends that the use of breast models should meet several criteria such as ethical norms, the weight of the model, the flexible nature of the model, ease of use, and comfort, it can be combined with other learning models, and students are not afraid to use it without worrying about damaging it.
