Abstract

Objectives of this study were to compare the percentage of Sodium Chloride (NaCl) and cervical mucus profile which includes potential of Hydrogen (pH), abundance of cervical mucus, spinnbarkeit and ferning of dairy cattle at different age during estrus cycle. Thirty Two head of dairy cattle were used as materials which are 2 years old (n = 2), 3 years old (n = 18), 4 years old (n = 8) and 5 years old (n=4). Dairy cattle were estrus synchronized using 50 mg/head of prostaglandin. Data was collected on 48, 72, 78, 84, 90, 120, 144 and 408 hours after prostaglandin administration. The data were analyzed by using non parametric statistic which was Kruskal-Wallis H test. The significant data was tested with Mann-Whitney U test. The result showed that the abundance of cervical mucus was significantly different (P<0.05; χ2 = 0.011) on 84 hours after estrus synchronization. However, level of NaCl, abundance, spinnbarkeit and ferning of cervical mucus was not sigificantly different. In conclusion, the age of dairy cattle did not affected to the condition NaCl percentage, spinnbarkeit, pH and ferning of cervical mucus, but affected to the abundance of cervical mucus on 84 hours after adminitration of prostaglandine.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Anrederacordifolia (Ten.) Steenissupplementation on uterine involution process in rabbit. The research design applied was completelyrandomized design with 4 treatments and 3 replications (T0 = without Anredera cordifoliasupplementation; TI = Anredera cordifolia supplemented two days before parturition; T2 = Anrederacordifolia supplemented two days after parturition; T3 = Anredera cordifolia supplemented two daysbefore until two days after parturition). The results showed that Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenissupplementation could accelerate post partum oestrus in does that were characterized by post partumoestrus behavior, ferning of saliva and cervical mucus. The best treatment was T3, that was four daysAnredera cordifolia supplementation that was administered at 0.45 g/kg of body weight/day. Furtherresearch was needed to find an optimal dose of Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis on uterine involution.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to examine the synchronization of estrus and artificial insemination in heifers of Ongole grade and Simental-Ongole grade. The research used 19 Ongole Grade (OG) and 18 Simental-Ongole Crossbred (SOC) heifers. This research applied purposive sampling to determine the research population. The criteria to select the population were heifers which have in mature body. The normality of heifer’s reproductive organs were identified by performing rectal palpation, then 50 mg of medroxy progesterone acetate on vaginal sponge was used to synchronized estrus. The estrus heifer was inseminated using frozen semen. The observed parameters were the number of heifers with normal and abnormal reproductive organs, estrus sign and pregnancy. Data were analyzed descriptively. This study showed that OG and SOC with abnormal reproductive organs was 1 heifer (5.56%) and 7 heifers (36.84%), respectively. The responses of estrus synchronization in heifers with normal and abnormal reproductive organs were 94.17% and 100% in OG, and 100% and 42.86% in SOC. Meanwhile, the pregnancy rate was 70.59 and 0% in OG, and 50.00 and 0% in SOC. In conclusion, the number of SOC heifers with abnormal reproductive organs is higher than OG. Estrus synchronization using 50 mg medroxy progesterone acetate increase the amount of estrus and pregnancy in heifers with normal reproductive organs.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the reproductive quality of normal compared withabnormal postpartum estrus (PPE) of Jawa Randu Goats (n = 16 goats) on estrogen hormon level andestrus profile. Total samples were 16 Jawa Randu goats. The data were analyzed descriptively and nonparametric data were analyzed using Mann Whitney U-test of Statistical Package for the Social science(SPSS) 16. Descriptive statistics was used on estrogen hormone and resulting that normal postpartumestrus (PPE) Jawa Randu Goats had a better level (133.8; 141.5; 155.6; 162.25; 167.75 pg/mL)compared with abnormal postpartum estrus of Jawa Randu Goat (109.9; 111.35; 101.2; 132.2; 142.45pg/mL). Mann Whitney U-test used for the abundance of cervical mucus and ferning showed nonsignificantly different of postpartum estrus between both groups. Jawa Randu goats with normal PPEhad a higher estrogen level than abnormal PPE goats. However, for the abundance and ferning ofcervical mucus, between the two groups of goats was not different.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to observe body (neck, chest and scrotum) circumferences and testosterone level of α-male, β-male and subordinate male Timor deer reared under captivity after establisment of the dominance hierarchy. Twelve males (51 ± 6 months old; 68.29 ± 8.41 kg body weight and in same antler stages) were used in this research. The bucks was grouped into three stall each containing four bucks. ELISA kit and tape measurements were used for plasma Testosterone assay and body measurement, respectively. Data was collected before and 43 days after establishment of the dominance hierarchy. Wilcoxon signed ranks test and Kruskal-Wallis H test of non-parametric analysis was used. Significant difference was tested with Mann-Whitney U test. The results showed no significantly different for body circumferences (neck, chest, scrotum) and testosterone level of male Timor deer before establishment of dominance hierarchy. Chest and scrotum circumferences of male Timor deer after establihment of dominance hierarchy showed no significantly different. Significantly difference shown on parameter neck circumference (P<0.05; χ2 = 8.74) and testosteron level (P<0.05; χ2 = 7.87) after establishment of dominance hierarchy. In conclusion, dominance hierarchy affected the testosterone level and body measurement.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate and compare the quality of post thawing spermatozoa of buffalo frozen semen produced by artificial insemination centers on standard values, and proposed reference values (PRV). Materials of the research were 60 samples of straws obtained from three Artificial Insemination Center, which are each 20 straws, respectively. Parameters observed were motility, concentration, longevity, plasma membrane integrity (PMI), acrosome integrity (AIn) and recovery rate. The obtained data were tested by Z test then presented as mean ± standard deviation. The research results from three artificial insemination center showed that motility mean was 45.00±3.07%, concentration mean was 26.09±3.11 x106 cells/0.25mL, longevity mean was 10.38±0.75%/hour, PMI mean was 45.86±10.67%, AI mean was 73.99±5.28% and recovery rate mean was 64.38±5.16%. The conclusions of this research were the motility and concentration mean were higher than Indonesian National Standard (INS), longevity mean was lower than Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (DADF) standard but PMI and AIn mean were higher, the mean value of recovery rate was higher than of proposal value.
