Abstract

Obesity is a problem of excessive fat accumulation and has a serious effect on health. The prevalence of overweight and obesity are in the children to increase significantly in the world. The objectives of this research are to analyze the relationships between teacher’s role and nutrient intake with obesity in elementary school student at Medan Maimun Sub-district. The research design uses a cross-sectional study, has taken location at Elementary School in Medan Maimun sub-district.  Samples were taken by simple random sampling of 120 students. Data were collected by using questionnaires, form food recall 2x24 hours, and BMI for age. Data analyzed using Chi-Square test. The result showed as 22,5% children were obese; the teacher’s role were majority low (75%),  and energy intake is under intake level Recommended Daily Allowance (55%). Bivariate analysis showed there is relation between teacher’s role with obesity (p=0.008), energy intake (p=0.007) and fat intake (p=0.038) with obesity. Intake of protein (p=0.739) and carbohydrate (p=0.540) are not related with obesity. The management of obesity in children is recommended to change children’s diet and lifestyle with family and teachers support at school.

Abstract

Stunting sangat umum di Kabupaten Langkat, dengan prevalensi 31,5% menurut Studi Status Gizi Indonesia (SSGI) pada tahun 2021. Untuk menurunkan angka stunting, pemerintah telah mengimplementasikan inisiatif seperti Targeted Therapeutic Dietary Intervention dengan suplementasi gizi pada remaja putri berupa pemberian tablet tambah darah. Nama resmi untuk proyek ini adalah Program PPAGB (Pencegahan dan Penatalaksanaan Anemia Gizi Besi). Kegiatan ini berupa pemberian tablet tambah darah kepada remaja putri yang wajib dikonsumsi agar remaja putri tidak mengalami anemia defisiensi besi. Berdasarkan informasi dari kepala sekolah, diketahui bahwa SMA Negeri 1 Binjai belum menerima program suplementasi besi dalam satu tahun terakhir, dan belum pernah ada penyuluhan tentang pencegahan anemia pada remaja putri. Metode pengabdian masyarakat ini berupa edukasi tentang anemia dan pencegahan anemia, pelatihan dan pendampingan. Tiga puluh siswi ikut dalam pengabdian ini. Teknik analisis data menggunakan uji-t. Hasil pengukuran status gizi menunjukkan mayoritas siswi memiliki nilai rata-rata Hb normal adalah 29 (96,7%), untuk IMT normal 14 (46,7%), dan LILA normal 16 (53,3%). Skor rata-rata sebelum dan sesudah edukasi ini masing-masing adalah 36,02 dan 66,92. Hasil uji T statistik didapatkan nilai p = 0,000 < α = 0,05 Dari hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa remaja putri yang berpartisipasi dalam pengabdian masyarakat ini secara signifikan mengalami peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam melakukan screening pencegahan anemia.

Abstract

Waste management should be carried out by implementing the concept of the 3Rs. Waste is generated in various places including in schools. Students frequently do not collect the waste into a trash can and often leave the waste in the schoolyard, desk drawers. Even though the slogan “keep the school clean” is instructed to the students, but they still often litter the school environment. This activity aims to improve students’ litter education in waste management by implementing the 3Rs and providing trash cans with attractive pictures to attract students to collect the waste into the trash cans. The method was participatory method and training to manage waste based on the concept of the 3Rs. The result shows that students were able to manage waste by applying the concept of the 3Rs. Students understood the concepts of the 3Rs, and created some products such as phone stand, hand soap dispenser, and reusable grocery bags. Trash cans with attractive pictures were provided in several areas around the school such as teachers’ room, canteen, and classroom. Students actively participated in waste management by applying the 3Rs. This activity beneficially reduces environmental pollution and simultaneously improves personal autonomy in environmental sustainability.
