Abstract

Various factors contribute to the routine hematology values in a healthy-looking person. Variability in analysis methods can also influence the results. However, all of the factors above can be standardized. Those variables have to be considered in determining hematology reference values. The aim of this research is to compare routine hematology results based on local RSHS Clinical Pathology laboratory with Sysmex KX-21 reference values in Medical Check Up (MCU) patients. Another aim is to determine own reference values of RSHS Clinical Pathology Laboratory. The subject of research is MCU patients who came to RSHS Clinical Pathology laboratory, Bandung, for medical check-ups and declared healthy by the internist, and meet the inclusion criteria. The method used is diagnostic test research with cross-sectional descriptive design. The result shows that routine hematology values range that is not too different from reference value range used for KX-21 in Japanese population. Nevertheless, the value range acquired in this research is closer to reference values in Wintrobe reference book. In conclusion, this research shows that routine hematology results of normal population in RSHS are closer to Wintrobe reference values compared to Sysmex KX-21 reference value in Japanese population.  Keywords : reference value range, MCU, Wintrobe, Sysmex KX-21

Abstract

Objective : The research objective was to evaluate the phytochemical compounds, the antioxidant and anti-malarial activity of green tea extract and its fraction. Methods: The antioxidant activity were measured by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity used in vitro laboratories prospective experimental design and completely randomized design, using ethanol extract, hexane, ethyl acetate, butanol fraction, and water fraction ofgreen tea in 7 levels of concentration compared to epicatechin (EC). The data were analyzed using linear regression analysis, and were continued by determined Inhibitory Concentration). The anti-malarial activity of green tea fractions were compared to artemisinin. The data were analyzed using probit analysis, and were continued by determined IC. Results: The results showed that the highest antioxidant activity (IC50) was the fraction of ethyl acetate 2,184 µg/ml. The anti-malarial activity IC50 50 of water and ethyl acetate fraction, ethanol extract and butanol fraction were 0,000090 µg/mL,0,003 µg/mL, 0,006 µg/mL, 0,011 µg/ml respectively. Conclusion: Extract and fractions of green tea have potential anti-malarial and antioxidant properties. Key Words: antioxidant; anti-malarial; green tea; free radicals

Abstract

Abstract

Sepsis remains a major global healthcare problem, indicate as most frequently cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The last consensus of sepsis in 2016 defined sepsis as life threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. Dysfunction of organs can be represented by Sequential [Sepsis-Related] Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score. Score2 points or more consequent to the infection. Nowadays, there is ideal biomarkers of sepsis such as procalcitonin (PCT). However, the use of that markers in developing countries are hardly accessible. Eosinopenia is an prepossess biomarker because eosinophil count is always measured in daily practice and considered as a forgotten marker. The study purpose is to determine the validity of absolute eosinopenia in bacterial sepsis patients. This study is a descriptive observational study, collecting 118 patient’s medical record data from the past, diagnosed as sepsis using consensus criteria of Sepsis-3 between January 1st 2018–December 31st 2019. Eosinopenia validity test in sepsis patients showed 92.7% specificity and 71.4% sensitivity. This study also showed significant differences of absolute eosinophil count between positive sepsis patients and negative group with p value <0.001. Eosinopenia had high specificity so it could be used as a marker of diagnostic in septic patients.
