Abstract

This study aims to investigate the interest and motivation in learning mathematics for junior high school students during online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic in depth and to explore the faktors that influence students' interest and motivation in learning using triangulation techniques, namely observation and interviews. This research uses descriptive qualitative research method with the type of case study research. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri II Dolok Pardamean, Simalungun Regency. The population in this study were all seventh grade students for the 2020/2021 academic year at SMP Negeri II Dolok Pardamean. The sample used was all students of class VII-1, then 3 students were selected for the 2020/2021 academic year. Based on the results and discussion of the research, it shows that most of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri II Dolok Pardamean have high interest and motivation in learning mathematics, which is indicated by the average percentage of students' interest and motivation in learning mathematics, which is 76.46%. In conclusion, online learning that has been carried out at SMP Negeri II Dolok Pardamean has succeeded in increasing interest and motivation in learning mathematics for grade VII-1 students and is in the high category. The success faktor in increasing students' interest and motivation in learning is influenced by teachers and students' family support. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to explore the relationship between the traditional musical instrument of the Toba Batak tribe known as Tagading and the concept of geometry. This study uses a qualitative approach through direct observation, interviews, and documentation to collect relevant data. The results of the study show that Tagading has geometric concepts in the form of geometric shapes and geometric shapes. The shape of the circle, as well as the structure and placement of the wood in Tagading illustrate these geometric concepts. Apart from that, the rhythmic patterns and long proportions of wood in Tagading also illustrate the relationship between music and mathematics. This research has important implications in developing mathematics learning methods that are relevant to local culture, as well as providing innovative learning experiences for students. The findings of this study can enrich our understanding of the relationship between culture, traditional music and geometric concepts.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the geometric concepts present in the traditional construction of Solu Bolon, a traditional boat of the Batak Toba tribe in North Sumatra. Solu Bolon not only functions as a means of transportation but also as a symbol of social status and power in Batak Toba society. Through a qualitative descriptive ethnographic approach, this research identifies and analyzes the geometric elements found in the ornaments, construction process, and symbolism of Solu Bolon. Data were collected through observation, interviews with traditional leaders and Solu Bolon craftsmen, and visual documentation. The results of the study indicate that Solu Bolon applies various geometric concepts such as symmetry, proportion, and geometric shapes like rectangular prisms and beams in different parts of the boat, including the paddle blades, bow ornaments, stern decorations, and side walls. Additionally, this research found that the application of geometric concepts in Solu Bolon traditions can be used as a contextual approach in teaching geometry, thereby enhancing students' interest and understanding of geometry while fostering a sense of love and pride in local culture.
