Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out moral values in Up and Doctor Strange film that can be used as material for teaching character education that involve in curriculum. This research is a qualitative research through content analysis method. The data in this research was collected through documentation and key informant with expert. In analyzing the data, the researcher used character table by Bohlin’s theory (2013) that consist of moral starting point, 1st morally pivotal point, 2nd morally pivotal point, challenge point, and new change. The result of this research showed there are some moral values in Up and Doctor Strange film that can be used as material for teaching character education involve in curriculum. The moral values are responsibility, caring other people, work hard, appreciate achievement of other people, curiosity, like to read and caring environment. These moral values also include in 18 that should be taught by teacher in teaching character education according to the Depdiknas (2010).

Abstract

This research concerns with the use of slang terms in Scarface movie and proposes some problems; what slang that used in the movie? , how are the word formation of the slang? and the meaning of slang that used in the movie. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method to classify and analyze the utterances. After investigating the utterances of the movie script, the researchers found several findings on it. First, there are forty seven slang that used in the movie, such as; ain’t, shit, and gotta. Second, the result of word formation of slang according to Yule’s theory, there are: eight borrowing, five blending, four clipping, one multiple process, six compounding and one back formation. The last is describing the literal and figurative meaning of the slang words according to NTC’s Dictionary of American Slang and Colloquial.

Abstract

The present research analyses the use of slang terms in Scarface movie. The present research aims to examine types of slang, word formation as well as the meaning of slang words used in the movie. The present research uses a descriptive qualitative method to classify and analyze the slang utterances based on Yule‟s theory of word formation. The results show that the movie contains forty seven slang words such as ain’t, shit, and gotta. Secondly, the results show following word formations: eight borrowing, five blending, four clipping, one multiple process, six compounding and one back formation. Lastly, the results describe the literal and figurative meanings of the slang words according to NTC‟s Dictionary of American Slang and Colloquial.

Abstract

This problem was caused in this research were based on condition of Students at the SMPN 14 Kota Serang in their vocabulary. Based on the class observation and questioners have been collected, there are some problem has been found. One of the cases are the students in English Club have considered low on vocabulary and lack of activity that can support their vocabulary learning. According to Grabe and Stoller’s (2019) stated that the vocabulary is an critical for the students to comprehension written expression in English. This also considered as the key of success in learning a foreign language. In this research, the researcher tries to implemented “Guessing Word” students in English Club activity every Wednesday after the school hours. This activity were need the student’s to make a list of some vocabulary such vocab around the school, house, park, and etc. Then the data is collected by sharing the questionnaire with Sixteen English Club students in 8th grade and interviews with some students to know their perception of difficulties in English vocabulary. The findings demonstrate that, the majority of respondents strongly agreed that vocabulary mastery had a big influence on their English proficiency. The implications of these findings for future of learning activity for student vocabulary.
