Abstract

Ruminant livestock groups in Jember Regency, especially in Bagorejo Village, have several problems that need to be resolved. A large livestock population makes breeders need a solution related to livestock waste, currently not being fully utilized. Several breeders have tried to use livestock waste as biogas and organic fertilizer. However, biogas' efficiency is still at a minimum level, and organic fertilizers' production is deemed less profitable from breeders' perspective. Ruminant breeders in Bagorejo Village expect a solution to utilizing their livestock waste which can be converted into a good side business. The community service team from the Jember State Polytechnic Animal Husbandry Department came with the results of research related to the use of Azotobacter sp bacteria in utilizing livestock waste. The utilization of these bacteria can convert livestock waste into optimal media for earthworms (Lumbricus rubellus). In the process of dissemination to farmers in Bagorejo village, the results were satisfactory. In addition to training and education, we also conduct mini-research in the breeder environment to convince farmers that the optimization of earthworm livestock can be helped by using the bacterial culture of Azotobacter sp. In this mini-research, we made three treatments for earthworm media, (P1) media without any addition, (P2) media with the addition of Azotobacter sp culture, and (P3) media with the addition of EM4. Each medium is sown with 500 grams of worm seeds. After that, maintenance is carried out for four weeks, and the final results of raising the earthworms are weighed. After weighing, P1 gets a final weight of 1.3kg, P2 receives a final weight of 2.4kg, and P3 gets a final weight of 1.8kg. From the results of the mini-research conducted by the team and breeders, the hope is that it will provide solutions to farmers that the use of livestock waste can be a medium for worm livestock. And with the addition of Azotobacter sp culture, it can make raising earthworms more optimal and can be a sustainable and profitable side business.

Abstract

"Nawawi Farm" Breeder Group of Nogosari Village is one of the breeder's groups community in Jember Regency which has a focus on layer rooster’s commodity business. Members of this group are approximately 100 breeders. Production of laying hens has a final weight of around 800 g. Meanwhile, feeding during maintenance requires quite a lot of cost. The existence of expenditures made and income generated is unbalanced, of course, become quite serious problems in the world of the livestock business. This is due to the lack of understanding of the Nawawi Farm livestock group regarding the maintenance management of Laying Roosters. Therefore, training and educations are needed regarding the maintenance management of laying hens. The service of the community dedication stage begins with analyzing community needs, training in the management of laying hens, to guiding the maintenance of laying hens in the Nawawi Farm Livestock Group. The main results of the implementation of this service carried out is that all Nawawi Farm breeders can understand the maintenance management of Laying Hens properly and correctly. The service activities that have been carried out can be carried out properly and run smoothly in accordance with the planned activities that have been prepared. This community service activity was well-received by all apparatus of the Nawawi Farm breeder group. The suggestion of this activity is a follow-up activity in the form of training on making rations with the use of local feed ingredients, especially in the face of the new normal era now to maintain the economic stability of the Nawawi Farm livestock group.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the relationship between egg weight and fertility, hatching loss, hatchability, and fixed weight of Super Javanese chickens (Joper) in the context of developing the TEFA (teaching factory) Breeding and Hatchery at the Politeknik Negeri Jember. This research used 40 layer hens and 5 rooster Bangkok chickens reared in colonies with a ratio of 8:1. Treatment consisted of grouping egg weights, namely P1 (<55 g) and P2 (>55 g). Observations were made three times during the hatching period. The variables observed were fertilization, hatchability, and hatching weight. The data obtained was analyzed descriptively and analytically. The results showed that egg weight was closely correlated with hatching weight (R = 0.98) and had a regression value of Y = -0.625 + 0.686X. The hatching weight of eggs weighing <55 g and eggs weighing >55 g had a significant difference (P<0.05) with eggs weighing >55 g having a greater hatching weight. Egg weight had no significant effect (P>0.05) on hatchability or the percentage of hatched or unhatched eggs. The conclusion that can be drawn is that egg weight has a real influence and is closely correlated with hatching weight (DOC weight).

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to ascertain how giving commercial feed of various brands affects the physical quality of meat obtained from Kampung Unggul Balitbangtan (KUB) chickens on pH values, cooking losses and water holding capacity. The Completely Randomized Design (RAL) and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) techniques were used in this study. The Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was used to see if there were any notable changes. This research used 160 Day Old Chicks (DOC) with 4 commercial feed treatments with different brands, namely P1 (WK Feed). P2 (CPH Feed), P3 (PAT Feed) and P4 (CFD Feed) with level of protein contains each brand. The results of this study show that giving commercial feed with different brands can have a significant effect (P
