Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the application of S. cerevisiae as a probiotic for producing low cholesterol and antibiotic-free broiler meat. This study used 250 broilers (14 days old) which were divided into 5 treatment groups, those were T0 (rations without S. cerevisiae addition), T1, T2 and T3 (rations added with 0.5, 1, and 1.5 g/kg DM of S. cerevisiae respectively), and K group (commercial feed). Broilers were reared until 36 days old prior to slaughter. The carcass quality, abdominal fat, internal organs, cholesterol content of breast meat, the number of LAB and E. coli of intestinal tract were observed. The addition of S. cerevisiae tended to increase the number of LAB in intestinal tract, whereas the number of E. coli significantly decreased. The highest slaughter weight was found in group fed with commercial feed. There were no significant effects of S. cerevisiae addition on carcass, abdominal fat and weight of internal and immunity organs. The lowest cholesterol content was showed on broiler fed with rations added with 1 g/kg DM S. cerevisiae. Therefore it could be concluded that the addition of S. cerevisiae up to 1 g/kg DM rations showed health improvement and able to produce low cholesterol broiler meat.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of aflatoxins on rumen fermentation in vitro and obtained rumen bacterial isolates capable of binding aflatoxin. This trial consisted of three stages. The first trial was a reduction of aflatoxin in the rumen in vitro. The second experiment was the isolation and characterization of rumen bacteria that could bind aflatoxin. The third stage was to test the holding capacity of aflatoxin by rumen bacteria. This study used cow rumens. The Research design used a randomized complete block design (RCBD) factorial 2x3 and 2 replications. The first factor was the presence of aflatoxin (with and without the addition of aflatoxin), the second factor was the type of feed (diet and glucose), and the third factor was the time of incubation (0 and 4 hours). The results showed the presence of aflatoxin did not affect rumen conditions (pH, volatile fatty acid (VFA), and rumen lactic acid concentration), and the results obtained 6 isolates and isolation of rumen bacteria to bind aflatoxin up to 50%.

Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study was to examine the accuracy of estimating the nutrient content in rice bran as a feed ingredient by using Near Infrared (NIR) technology compared to proximate analysis method. Methods: Rice bran was used as feed sample to compare the results of data analysis using these two methods. In this study the Fourier Transform Near-infrared used infrared with wavelength of 12500-4000 cm-1. The OPUS 7.8 software was integrated with NIRS. The model was made by using Partial Least Square regression analysis to correlate the result of the spectrum and the result of proximate analysis method. Results: In this study, the nutrient content in rice bran available in markets, which commonly are Crude Protein (CP), ether extract (EE), and Crude Fiber (CF), are quite varied and wide in range, so that The curve prediction/true showed up wider and did not cover the entire surface of the line. In consequence two outliers were removed so that the accuracy value could be increased in measuring the quality of animal feed as indicated by the improvement of the coefficient of determination or R2, Root Mean Square Error for Cross Validation (RMSECV), and Standard Error (SE).Conclusions. NIR is a useful tool to estimate nutrient composition of rice bran available in the market especially for CP, EE, and CF by removing two outliers. The Prediction / True curve does not widen after removing two outliers, and can improve R2, RMSECV, and SE values.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore feed ingredients from rubber seed plantation waste and their effect on the percentage of abdominal fat and blood profile due to the high content of rubber seed oil and the presence of anti-nutrients (HCN). The concentrations of Rhizopus oligosporus and Neurospora stiophila inoculum were 109 CFU/g each. This study was subjected to a Nested Completely Randomized Design. The first factor was the type of microbial used. Factor II was inoculum dose (0%, 0.4%, 0.8%, 1.6%, and 3.2%). The best concentration of inoculum was used in the making of fermented rubber seeds to be given to native chickens. The application on native chickens used statistical analysis Completely Randomized Design consisting of 3 treatments, namely P1: feed without using fermented rubber seeds; P2: feed using 5% Neurospora fermented rubber seed; and P3: feed using 5% Rhizopus fermented rubber seed. Significantly different results continued with Duncan's test. The results showed that the type of fungi had no significant effect on the treatment, but increasing the dose of fungi inoculum up to 3.2% had a significant effect on decreasing the content of dry matter, HCN, and crude fiber in rubber seeds. Administration of Rhizopus and Neurospora inoculums had a significant effect on increasing abdominal fat when compared to control. The conclusion of this study was that the processing method before fermentation and the amount of fungal inoculum used during fermentation affected the nutritional and antinutritional content of HCN rubber seeds. The presence of fermented rubber seeds which had either Rhizopus oligosporus or Neurospora stiophila increased the percentage of abdominal fat. Native chickens which were given fermented rubber seeds with Neurospora showed a higher level of stress marked by increased blood lymphocytes
