Abstract

Soil horizon development is a determinant of soil type and characteristics. The morphology reflects the stages of soil formation by observing the genetic horizon. The genetic horizon is a soil layer distinguished by symbols (O, A, E, B, C, and R). Soil formation can also be obtained from the silt-clay fraction as part of the soil texture observation. The silt-clay ratio can reflect the soil morphology and genesis. This study aimed to determine the silt-clay ratio as an indicator of soil development and fertility. This study was conducted in 2020 in Manismata Sub-District West Kalimantan Province with soil parent material derived from sedimentary rocks with the topography of 0-3%, 3-8%, and 8-15%. The observations were carried out on five soil profiles in terms of morphology, texture, organic matter, nitrogen, CEC, and Ca. Based on the results, entisol (regosol) had A-C genetic horizon and silt-clay ratio >2.73. Meanwhile, inceptisol (kambisol) had an A-B-C genetic horizon and a silt-clay ratio of 1.44 – 2.24. The silt-clay ratio in entisol had a significant influence on organic matter, CEC, and Ca of 75.79%, 86.98%, and 85.14%, respectively. Silt-clay ratio in inceptisol had a significant influence on organic matter, CEC, and Nitrogen. 3-8% inceptisol had a negative relationship of 67.25%, 52.33% and 84.59%, respectively. Meanwhile, 8-15% of Kambisol had a positive relationship with R2 of 69.08%, 54.49%, and 66.61%, respectively. The difference in the relationship (negative, positive) on inceptisol was due to 3-8% inceptisols having lithologic discontinuities. Thus, it can be concluded that the silt-clay ratio can be an indicator of soil development and fertility.Key words : Fertility, Morphogenesis, Silt/Clay, Soil Weathering

Abstract

Paddy is the main crop in the tidal land farming system. The use of tidal land, especially for rice plants, faces many obstacles, in general it has low fertility due to the lack of macronutrients N, P, K as well as high and varied agrophysical constraints. For this reason, in rice cultivation, Alluvial land needs ameliorant that is easy to obtain and cheap in price, to help increase Alluvial soil fertility in addition to N, P and K fertilizers. The research was carried out by taking soil samples in Sei Kakap in 2 different locations, and then the samples were analyzed at the Chemistry and Soil Fertility Lab of Faperta Untan. This study used a dose of empty fruit bunches (tankos) biochar and chicken manure with a ratio of 25% : 75%, 50% : 50% and 75% : 25%. The treatment was repeated 5 times, so there were 15 treatments. The design used is the completely randomized design. The results of the study explain that from the incubation experiment between biochar tankos, chicken manure, for 4 weeks the C/N ratio was <20%, besides that base saturation and CEC were higher than 2 weeks incubation, indicating that the use of organic biochar tankos + chicken manure with a ratio of 25:50 and 50:50 can increase the fertility of paddy fields.

Abstract

This land suitability evaluation is basically used to determine the level of suitability of a plot of land for a particular use. Kuala Behe Village currently has quite good potential in developing large areas of community oil palm plantations. The aim of this research is to analyze several soil physical properties of oil palm plants in Kuala Behe Village, Kuala Behe District, Landak Regency and provide management recommendations. The method used in this research is land surveying and mapping. The research begins with a preliminary survey of the research location, then continues with making a map of observation points determined based on the distribution of land unit maps obtained from the overlay or overlap of administrative maps, slope class maps and soil type maps with reference to the physiographic survey method. The research location has an area of 120 ha consisting of 6 land units, then continued with carrying out activities in the field (observing the physical properties of the soil and taking soil samples according to the coordinate points that have been obtained). The analysis results showed that the dominant texture was clay with a medium texture class, the effective depth of the soil was included in the deep criteria, had good drainage, very deep sulfidic hazards, light erosion and no threat of flooding. The research location has 2 types of soil, namely Typic Dystrudepts and Fluventic Dystrudepts which are classified into 6 land units, namely land units with a total area of approximately 120 ha. Improvement efforts can be made by constructing drainage channels, constructing contour terraces and planting ground cover plants.

Abstract

By 2030, smallholder plantations will account for 60% of the total oil palm plantation cover. Currently, 40% of smallholder oil palm farms in Indonesia have low productivity and are located in peatlands. The result is that increasing land productivity requires taking into account the maturity, thickness, and depth of the groundwater table. The study's goals were to identify many characteristics of peatlands in smallholder plantations, to create a map of potential peatland use, and to build a strategy for smallholder oil palm farms based on peat potential maps. The peatland mapping units was determined on a combination of soil type maps, peat maturity maps, and peat thickness maps. Observations and extra sampling at each land mapping unit (LMU) were conducted using a random survey method to stratify 20 observation sites and soil physical property samples. The strategy formulation technique employed a SWOT analysis, which was evaluated by key informants. The study found that (1) the characteristics of peat in each LMU show relatively similar properties, namely having low bulk density, high groundwater content, and porous porosity, (2) there were 5 LMUs based on maturity, thickness, and groundwater level, and (3) the strategy consists of efforts to improve the quality of the water management system to overcome the depth of the groundwater level that exceeds the required limit, overcome the depth of irrigation channels that exceed the maximum depth, increase the use of fertilizer according to the recommended dose to increase oil palm production.

Abstract

Land-use change within watersheds represents a major challenge for land resource management, as it impacts agricultural productivity, hydrological functions, and environmental sustainability. The Melawi Sub-watershed, part of the Kapuas Watershed, is experiencing land-use dynamics driven by plantation expansion, agricultural activities, and shifts in spatial utilization. This study aims to analyze land-use change dynamics in the Melawi Sub-watershed from 2022 to 2024, evaluate the presence of agricultural land within forest areas and Business Use Rights (HGU) zones, and identify potential agricultural land available for future development. The analysis utilized Sentinel-2 imagery processed on the Google Earth Engine platform using the Random Forest algorithm; subsequent spatial overlay analysis generated a land-use change matrix and identified land distribution across forest areas and HGU zones. The results indicate an increase in plantation area by 20,153.357 hectares, while mixed dryland agriculture and shrubland decreased by 26,879.009 hectares, signaling a conversion toward more intensive land use. Overlay results reveal that of the total 1,148,066.594 hectares of agricultural land, approximately 540,005.663 hectares (47.04%) are located within forest areas, and 99,339.002 hectares (8.65%) fall within HGU zones. After accounting for these areas, a potential 508,721.929 hectares (44.31%) of agricultural land remains available for sustainable agricultural development.
