Abstract

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) remains a confusing and disabling condition present in 3.8% of the general population. CTS is the most frequent form of median nerve entrapment, and accounts for 90% of all entrapment neuropathies. This review aims to provide an overview of these general conditions, with an emphasis on the pathophysiology seen in CTS. The clinical presentation and risk factors associated with CTS are discussed in this paper. Also a variety of diagnostic methods were explored, including nerve conduction studies, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a common work-related disorder caused by repetitive movements and long-term fixed positions that can affect nerves, blood supply to the hands and wrists. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a neuropathy of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel at the wrist precisely below the retinaculum flexor. This syndrome occurs due to a rise in pressure in a narrow tunnel that is bounded by carpal bones and rigid carvi tranversum ligaments that trap the median nerve (Rambe, 2004). Given the existence of muscle weakness, disruption in activity due to joint stiffness, can be done with exercise therapy in the form of resisted exercise to increase muscle strength and functional ability of the hand. Keywords: carpal tunnel syndrome; median nerve; entrapment neuropathy; pathophysiology and diagnosis ABSTRAK Kejadian Carpal tunnel syndrome ( CTS ) terjadi sekitar di 3,8% dari populasi umum. Abstract

Background: Frozen shoulder is a joint disorder that causes limited motion of the shoulder joint in all directions of movement, causing both physical and functional problems. This activity aims to see the benefits of manual therapy and pendular codman exercises in increasing the activity of frozen patients at Grandmed Lubuk Pakam Hospital in 2019. Manual therapy methods and codman pendular exercises were given to 24 patients at the Physiotherapy Clinic of Grandmed Lubuk Pakam Hospital. The measuring instrument used to measure the functional activity ability of the shoulder is the index of shoulder pain and disability with the 0% -60% category being improving and 61% -100% being worse. Based on the results obtained during manual therapy and codman pendular exercise, it shows that the ability of the patient's shoulder functional activity has increased. where manual therapy and pendular codman exercise from 16 samples, the ability of shoulder functional activity with a SPADI value of 100% decreased and after manual therapy and pendular codman exercises for 3 times decreased to 12.5% decreased and 87.5% improved. Based on these data it can be neglected that there is an effect of offering manual therapy exercises and pendular codman in increasing the patient's shoulder functional activity by 87.5%

Abstract

Frozen shoulder or another name for adhesive capsulitis is pain that results in limited Range of Motion (ROM). Frozen shoulder or another name for adhesive capsulitis is pain that results in limited Range of Motion (ROM). Codman pendular exercises are interventions or techniques often used by physiotherapists to increase Range of Motion (ROM). This service activity is carried out through seminars using lecture, question and answer methods and demonstrations. The samples taken were patients with frozen shoulder with a total of 14 people. The statistical test results obtained p-value <0.05, it can be concluded that the hypothesis in the study was accepted, namely: "There is an Effect of Giving Codman Pendular Exercises and Mulligan Mobilization With Movement on Increasing Range Of Motion in Frozen Shoulder Patients"

Abstract

Background: Myofascial Pain Syndrome is a common health problem where the main cause is repetitive injury. Various interventions can be performed to reduce pain and symptoms from MTrPs, one of which is dry needling (DN) and muscle energy technique (MET). Purpose: of this study is to determine the effect of DN, MET, and combination of DN+MET on pain at MTrPs m.upper trapezius. Research method quantitative three groups pre and post test design. Sample was taken using total sampling technique and total of 48 people with MTrPs m.upper trapezius obtained. Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) used to measure pain intensity. The statistical tests used are Wilcoxon signed ranked test and the Mann-Whitney U. Results and discussion: effect of DN intervention with P-Value= 0.000 (P<0.05), MET P-Value= 0.000 (P<0.05), Combination of DN+MET P-Value= 0.000 (P<0.05). Comparison of DN with MET P-Value= 0.001 (P<0.05), DN with combination of DN+MET P-Value= 0.030 (P<0.05), MET with a combination of DN+MET P-Value= 0.000 (P<0.05). Conclusion: based on statistical result DN, MET, and the combination of DN+MET had the same effect on reducing pain at MTrPs m.upper trapezius, where the DN+MET combination proved to be more effective and more recommended in the treatment of MTrPs m.upper trapezius. Keywords: Myofascial Trigger Point Syndrome; Dry Needling; Muscle Energy Technique.
