Abstract

Abstract: Noni (Morinda cittrifolia L.) leaves contain antraquinon, atsiri oil, saponin, tannin, alkaloid, flavonoid, polifenol, and sterol that have been proved can inhibit the growth of Candida albicans. This study was aimed to establish the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of noni leaf extract against Candida abicans. This was a true experimental study with a randomized pretest-posttest control group design. We used serial dilution method with turbidimetry and spectrophotometry tests. Noni leaves were extracted by using maceration with 96% ethanol. Candida albicans fungi were obtained from Microbiology Laboratory of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sam Ratulangi University. The turbidimetry test using three repetitions showed that the MIC of noni leaf extract against Candida albicans was 6.25% meanwhile the spectrophotometry test established 12.5% as the MIC of noni leaf extract. Conclusion: Minimum inhibitory concentration of noni (Morinda cittrifolia L.) leaf extract against the growth of Candida albicans was 12.5%.Keywords: noni (Morinda citrifolia L.), Candida albicans, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) Abstrak: Daun mengkudu (Morinda citrifolia L.) mengandung antraquinon, minyak atsiri, saponin, tannin, alkaloid, flavonoid, polifenol dan sterol yang terbukti dapat menghambat pertumbuhan Candida albicans. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan konsentrasi hambat minimum (KHM) dari ekstrak daun mengkudu terhadap Candida albicans. Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental murni dengan randomized pretest-posttest control group design. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu serial dilusi dengan pengujian turbidimetri dan spektrofotometri. Daun mengkudu diekstraksi dengan metode maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Jamur Candida albicans diambil dari stok jamur Laboratorium Mikrobiologi Program Studi Farmasi Fakultas MIPA Universitas Sam Ratulangi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengujian turbidimetri dengan tiga kali perlakuan mendapatkan KHM pada konsentrasi 6,25% sedangkan pengujian spektrofotometri mendapatkan KHM pada konsentrasi 12,5%. Simpulan: Konsentrasi hambat minimum (KHM) ekstrak daun mengkudu (Morinda citrifolia L.) terhadap pertumbuhan Candida albicans terdapat pada konsentrasi 12,5%.Kata kunci: mengkudu (Morinda citrifolia L.), Candia albicans, konsentrasi hambat minimum (KHM)

Abstract

Abstract: The most common periodontal disease is gingivitis which is caused by biofilm accumulation on plaque around the gingival margin and inflammatory response to bacteria. Scaling is used to eliminate bacterial and calculus deposits that cause gingivitis. This study was aimed to determine the effectiveness of scaling in gingivitis treatment. This was a pre-experimental study with one group pre and post test design. Samples were obtained by using total sampling technique. There were 30 patients aged 17-45 years that had scaling performed on them at RSGM in 2019. Gingivitis was observed before and after scaling using the modified gingival index (MGI). The results showed that before scaling, there were mild gingivitis 23.30%, moderate gingivitis 70%, and severe gingivitis 6.70%. Two days after scaling, mild gingivitis and moderate gingivitis were observed 50% each. The paired sample t-test showed a p-value of 0.000. In conclusion, scaling is effective in gingivitis treatment based on the assessment using the modified gingival index.Keywords: gingivitis, scaling, modified gingival index Abstrak: Penyakit periodontal yang paling sering dijumpai yakni gingivitis (peradangan gingiva). Gingivitis disebabkan oleh akumulasi biofilm pada plak di sekitar margin gingiva dan respon peradangan terhadap bakteri. Tindakan untuk menghilangkan deposit bakteri dan kalkulus yang menyebabkan gingivitis salah satunya ialah tindakan skeling. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui efektivitas tindakan skeling terhadap perawatan gingivitis. Jenis penelitian ialah pra eksperimental dengan one grup pre and post test design. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik total sampling terhadap pasien yang berusia 17-45 tahun yang dilakukan tindakan skeling di RSGM pada tahun 2019 berjumlah 30 orang. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan melihat gingivitis sebelum skeling dan setelah skeling melalui pengukuran keparahan gingiva menggunakan modified gingival index (MGI). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebelum skeling gingivitis ringan 23,30%, gingivitis sedang 70%, gingivitis berat 6,70%. Dua hari pasca skeling didapatkan gingivitis ringan dan gingivitis sedang sama besar yaitu masing-masing 50%. Hasil uji t berpasangan menunjukkan nilai p=0,000. Simpulan penelitian ialah tindakan skeling efektif terhadap perawatan gingivitis berdasarkan penilaian modified gingival index.Kata kunci: gingivitis, skeling, modified gingival index

Abstract

Abstract: Tooth loss is commonly found among elderly and have bad impact on the TMJ, mastication, aesthetics as well as speech function. Due to mastication disorder, the elderly tend to choose certain food which influences their nutritional status. This study was aimed to obtain the relationship between tooth loss and nutritional status based on BMI among the elderly at Kolongan Atas II, Sonder. This was an analytical descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. Population included elderly aged 60-65 years old at Kolongan Atas II, Sonder. Samples were obtained by using total sampling method. The results showed that there were 30 elderlies that fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Tooth loss more than ten teeth was most common among elderly with normal nutritional status followed by those with overweight. Meanwhile, there was no elderly with underweight. The relationship between the tooth loss and nutritional status was tested with the chi-square which resulted in P value of 0.597. Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between tooth loss and nutritional status among elderly at Kolongan Atas II, Sonder. The elderlies were advised to pay attention to their nutritional status and to use dentures for replacement of their missing teeth.Keywords: tooth loss, nutrient status, elderly Abstrak: Pada masa lansia sering terjadi kehilangan gigi yang menyebabkan gangguan TMJ, pengunyahan, estetik, dan fungsi bicara. Gangguan pengunyahan pada lansia menyebabkan kecenderungan memilih makanan tertentu yang dapat memengaruhi status gizi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kehilangan gigi dengan status gizi berdasarkan IMT pada lansia di Desa Kolongan Atas II Kecamatan Sonder. Jenis penelitian ialah deskriptif analitik dengan desain potong lintang. Populasi penelitian ialah lansia berusia 60-65 tahun di Desa Kolongan Atas II Kecamatan Sonder sedangkan sampel diperoleh menggunakan metode total sampling. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan sebanyak 30 responden yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi. Kehilangan gigi >10 gigi terbanyak pada lansia dengan gizi normal diikuti dengan gizi lebih. Tidak didapatkan lansia dengan gizi kurang. Hubungan antara kehilangan gigi dengan status gizi berdasarkan IMT diuji dengan uji chi square dan mendapatkan nilai P=0,597. Simpulan: Tidak terdapat hubungan bermakna antara kehilangan gigi dengan status gizi pada lansia di Desa Kolongan Atas II Kecamatan Sonder. Disarankan agar para lansia untuk tetap memperhatikan asupan makanan agar dapat mempertahankan status gizi yang baik dan menggunakan gigi tiruan sebagai pengganti gigi yang hilang.Kata kunci: kehilangan gigi, status gizi, lansia

Abstract

Abstract: Material denture base that is often used is the acrylic resin thermal polymerization. Thermal polymerized acrylic base material is easily fractured when it is knocked down and easily absorbs liquids such as alcohol. Consumption of alcohol increases the plasticization effects of materials through the process of diffusion and causes crazing in acrylic resin, thereforre, the resin acrylic becomes easily fractured. This study aimed to measure the lifetimes of objects against fracture and to measure the strength of transversal load maximum acceptable thermal polymerization of acrylic resin upon receiving pressure. This was a laboratory experimental study with a post test only control group design. The acrylic resin plate was used as sample of thermal polymerization with a size of 65x10x2.5 mm for testing the strength of the transversal load. There were a total of 32 samples consisting of 16 samples for groups soaked in liquor and 16 samples for groups soaked in aquades for 8 days. Each sample was tested for the strength of the transversal load. Data were analyzed with the independent sample t-test to find out the difference between transversal strength of the group soaked in alcohol and the group soaked in aquades. The results showed that the average strength of transversal groups soaked in liquor was 117.35N/mm2 and the average strength of groups soaked in aquades was 131.11N/mm2. Conclusion: There was a significant difference in the strength of the acrylic resin polymerization transversal thermal soaked in liquor and of that soaked in aquades (P value 0.007).Keywords: alcoholic beverages, aquades, strength transversalAbstrak: Bahan dasar basis gigi tiruan yang sering digunakan ialah resin akrilik polimerisasi panas. Bahan basis akrilik polimerisasi panas bersifat mudah patah bila terjatuh dan mudah menyerap cairan seperti alkohol. Alkohol yang dikonsumsi pengguna gigi tiruan menyebabkan meningkatkanya efek plasticization dari bahan melalui proses difusi dan menyebabkan crazing pada resin akrilik sehingga resin akrilik mudah fraktur. Untuk mengukur daya tahan benda terhadap fraktur maka dilakukan pengujian kekuatan transversal untuk mengukur beban maksimal yang dapat diterima resin arkilik polimerisasi panas pada saat menerima tekanan. Penelitian ini ialah eksperiman laboratoris dengan post test only control group design. Sampel ialah pelat resin akrilik polimerisasi panas dengan ukuran 65x10x2,5 mm. Jumlah total sampel sebanyak 32 yang terdiri dari 16 sampel untuk kelompok yang direndam dalam minuman beralkohol dan16 sampel untuk kelompok yang direndam dalam aquades selama 8 hari. Setiap sampel dilakukan pengujian kekuatan transversal kemudian dianalisis dengan uji independent sample t-test untuk mengetahui adanya perbedaan kekuatan transversal antara kelompok yang direndam dalam minuman beralkohol dan kelompok yang direndam dalam aquades. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata kekuatan transversal kelompok yang direndam dalam minuman beralkohol yaitu 117,35 N/mm2 dan rerata kekuatan transversal keompok yang direndam dalam aquades yaitu 131,11 N/mm2.Simpulan: Terdapat perbedaan bermakna antara kekuatan transversal resin akrilik polimerisasi panas yang direndam dalam minuman beralkohol dan yang direndam dalam aquades (P = 0,007).Kata kunci: minuman beralkohol, aquades, kekuatan transversal

Abstract

Abstract: Denture wearing in society is influenced by several factors, one of which is motivation that can influences the mindset of individuals in decision making. This study was aimed to obtain the description of motivation among denture wearers. This was a literature review study using content analysis. There were four literatures on related topics obtained from the Google Scholar database, PubMed, and Garba Rujukan Digital. The results showed that in general, the external motivation of denture wearers was categorized as moderate, consisted of family support, environment, media, and health facilities. Meanwhile, the internal motivation was categorized as high, consisted of self-perception, interest, need, and expectation. In conclusion, motivations of patients with tooth loss to wear dentures consisted of extrinsic motivation which included the environment, information media, and health facilities, and the intrinsic motivation which included knowledge, self-perception, needs, interests, and expectation.Keywords: motivation; denture wearers  Abstrak: Penggunaan gigi tiruan pada masyarakat dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor salah satunya ialah motivasi yang dapat memengaruhi pola pikir individu dalam pengambilan keputusan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan gambaran motivasi penggunaan gigi tiruan. Jenis penelitian ialah studi pustaka dengan menggunakan content analysis. Terdapat empat pustaka mengenai topik terkait, diperoleh dari database Google scholar, PubMed, dan Garba Rujukan Digital. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan motivasi ekstrinsik penderita yang kehilangan gigi dengan penggunaan gigi tiruan umumnya tergolong sedang meliputi dukungan keluarga, lingkungan, media, dan fasilitas kesehatan sedangkan motivasi internal tergolong tinggi meliputi persepsi diri, minat, kebutuhan, dan harapan. Simpulan penelitian ini ialah motivasi penderita yang kehilangan gigi terhadap penggunaan gigi tiruan terdiri dari motivasi motivasi ekstrinsik yang meliputi lingkungan, media informasi dan fasilitas kesehatan dan motivasi intrinsik yang meliputi pengetahuan, persepsi diri, kebutuhan, minat, dan harapan.Kata kunci: motivasi; pengguna gigi tiruan
