Abstract

This study investigated the critical review on applied linguistics course teaching methods, approaches, and strategies which would be found in post graduate program in ELT in State University of Malang in the second semester. The lecturer is the teacher who is teaching critical review on applied linguistics course in offering E, class A. This study used one-site case study. Data was gathered from observations. The result of the study showed that the teacher relies on Communicative Language Teaching which was found in the classroom activities. Therefore, this paper critically reviews Intarapanich’s article (2013) “Teaching Methods, Approaches and Strategies Found in EFL Classrooms: A Case Study in Lao PDR” on the basis of the nature methods, approaches, and strategies in the teaching EFL classrooms, the existing practice in the teaching of EFL, and for the investigation proposed that teacher should adapt learning activities, based upon student abilities and constraint in classroom setting.Keywords: methods, approaches, strategies, applied linguistic course

Abstract

Indonesian is a very rich language originating from various regional languages throughout Indonesia which stretches from Sabang to Merauke. Of the 668 regional languages in Indonesia, there are several regional languages that are very influential for the development of the Indonesian language to date.Javanese is one of the languages that has the most influence on Indonesian vocabulary, in addition to Malay, Banjarese, Manadonese, Sasak, Sundanese, Bugis, and other regional languages.Javanese is the first language of the Javanese population living in Central Java Province, Special Region of Jogjakarta, East Java, Banten, Lampung, around Medan, transmigration areas in Indonesia, among others, parts of Riau, Jambi, Central Kalimantan, and several places in Indonesia. abroad, namely Suriname, the Netherlands, New Caledonia, and the West Coast of JohorThe scope of this research covers the entire area of the city of Jember which is covered by the “Suara Akbar” radio wave on the 94.6 FM frequency.This study uses qualitative methods. Abstract

Teaching English needs various media and methods to make the studentsenthusiastic in teaching and learning process. A lot of media are employed inteaching and learning process. One of media used in teaching grammar especiallytenses is comic strips. Comic strips tell a story in form of pictures series and textstructures or dialogue. This article aims to find out the effect of using Englishcomic strips as media in teaching simple past tense. A quasi experimental designis used in this study to identify the causal impact of an intervention on targetpopulation without random assignment when the treatments were given. Thesubjects of this study were the seventh grade students of junior high school.The finding of t-test obtained was 3.865 which were higher than t-table 2.08.It means that the comic strips are effective for teaching simple past tense. Thecomic strips can be used in teaching other aspects such as storytelling, anothertense, writing and so forth, and also it can be collaborated with the students’learning style.

Abstract

Abstrak Pada kolam olak tipe bucket, jari-jari (R) mempengaruhi loncatan hidrolik. Faktor koreksi panjang loncatan yang dipengaruhi oleh jari-jari kolam bucket. Nilai tersebut dapat digunakan menentukan panjang atau luas area pengamanan hilir sungai agar tidak terjadi tergerusan. Uji model fisik dilakukan dengan flum, panjangnya 4,1 m, lebar flume 0,15 m dan tinggi flume 0,24 m. Maka 3 variasi jari-jari kolam olak yaitu R1 = 6 cm, R2 = 7 cm dan R3 = 8 cm kemudian dialirkan air dengan 27 variasi percobaan. Diukur tinggi muka air diatas mercu bendung (Hd), saat meloncat (y1), setelah meloncat (y2) dan panjang loncatan hidrolik (Lj), didapatkan tinggi air saat meloncat (y1) dan bilangan Froude (Fr). Dengan memodifikasi persamaan Silvester (σ = 3,0 dan Ƞ = 1,17). panjang loncatan hidrolik mendekati hasil observasi dengan tingkat kesalahan relatif ΔE = 25,8%, NSE = 0,9, MAE = 6,0 dan RMSE = 3,1. Kata-kata Kunci: Kolam olak, tipe bucket, loncatan hidrolik, bilangan froude. Abstract In a bucket type still pond, radius (R) affects the hydraulic jump. The jump length correction factor is affected by the bucket pool radius. This value can be used to determine the length or area of the river downstream safeguard area so that erosion does not occur. The physical model test was carried out with a flume, the length of which was 4.1 m, the flume width was 0.15 m and the flume height was 0.24 m. Then 3 variations of the radius of the stilling pond, namely R1 = 6 cm, R2 = 7 cm and R3 = 8 cm then water was flowed with 27 experimental variations. Measured the water level above the crest of the weir (Hd), when jumping (y1), after jumping (y2) and the length of the hydraulic jump (Lj), obtained the water height when jumping (y1) and the Froude number (Fr). By modifying Silvester's equation (σ = 3.0 and Ƞ = 1.17). hydraulic jump length is close to the observed results with relative error rates ΔE = 25.8%, NSE = 0.9, MAE = 6.0 and RMSE = 3.1. Abstract

Keberhasilan pembangunan sebuah negara dapat diukur melalui tingkat kesejahteraannya. Peningkatan kesejahteraan adalah bukti keberhasilan dari rencana pembangunan setiap negara, termasuk Indonesia. Pembenahan dilakukan di setiap provinsi Indonesia. Namun, perbedaan kandungan sumber daya, sumber daya demografi, dan pembangunan di setiap wilayah menyebabkan perbedaan tingkat kesejahteraan masyarakat yang bersangkutan, salah satunya dipengaruhi oleh disparitas pembangunan di Provinsi Jawa Timur. Dalam hal ini, untuk mengatasi ketimpangan kesejahteraan, diperlukan upaya untuk mengetahui tingkat kesejahteraan suatu wilayah, kabupaten, atau kota. Pengelompokan dapat digunakan untuk menentukan wilayah mana yang paling penting. Salah satu metode untuk mengetahui cluster mana yang paling baik adalah dengan menggunakan algoritma fuzzy c-means. Data yang digunakan terdiri dari 38 kabupaten/kota di Jawa Timur dari tahun 2018 hingga 2019. Berdasarkan pengujian dari tiga hingga sepuluh cluster, tiga cluster dianggap sebagai cluster terbaik dengan nilai partition coefficient index 0,531075. Cluster 1 memiliki 8 anggota kabupaten/kota, cluster 2 memiliki 13 anggota, dan cluster 3 memiliki 17 anggota.

Abstract

AbstrakUsaha “Tempe Pak Yadi” merupakan salah satu bidang usaha pembuatan tempe yang ada di Kabupaten Jember. Usaha “Tempe Pak Yadi” yang saat ini dikelola Bapak Jumriadi mampu menghasilkan sekitar 225 tempe perharinya dengan menggunakan 50 kg kedelai. Selama ini, proses fermentasi kedelai pada usaha “Tempe Pak Yadi” masih dilakukan secara manual atau konvensial yaitu dengan penempatan kedelai yang sudah dikemas di atas papan dalam sebuah ruangan.   Berdasarkan hasil wawancara yang dilakukan dengan pengelola usaha “Tempe Pak Yadi”, salah satu masalah dalam pembuatan tempe yang dialami oleh usaha “Tempe Pak Yadi” dalam proses produksi tempe adalah pada cuaca yang suhu dan kelembabannya tidak menentu. Pada kondisi cuaca tidak menentu, perubahan suhu dan kelembaban didalam ruangan proses fermentasi tempe menjadi fluktuatif sehingga mengakibatkan tempe tidak bisa terbentuk tepat pada waktunya dan kualitasnya juga berkurang. Permasalahan lainnya yang dialami oleh usaha “Tempe Pak Yadi” selaku mitra yaitu kurangnya pengetahuan tentang adanya teknologi yang dapat mengatur suhu secara otomatis pada proses fermentasi kedelai.  Berdasarkan permasalahan mitra tersebut, tim pengabdian ingin membantu memberikan solusi terhadap permasalahan yang dihadapi mitra tersebut dengan cara: 1) Menerapkan teknologi tepat guna berupa alat pengatur suhu otomatis pada proses fermentasi kedelai dan 2) Memberikan sosialisasi terkait manfaat, cara penggunaan, dan perawatan alat pengatur suhu otomatis untuk proses fermentasi kedelai pada pembuatan tempe. Adapun rangkaian pelaksanaan pengabdian yang dilakukan yaitu survey lapangan, perencanaan, pembuatan alat, ujicoba alat, sosialisasi terkait alat, dan serah terima alat. Hasil uji alat menunjukkan bahwa alat dapat bekerja dengan baik seperti yang diharapkan. Kata kunci: fermentasi kedelai; pengatur suhu; teknologi tepat guna; tempe AbstractThe "Pak Yadi Tempe" business is one of the tempe making businesses in Jember Regency. The "Tempeh Pak Yadi" business which is currently managed by Mr Jumriadi is capable of producing around 225 tempeh per day using 50 kg of soybeans. So far, the soybean fermentation process in the "Tempe Pak Yadi" business is still carried out manually or conventionally, namely by placing the packaged soybeans on a board in a room. Based on the results of interviews conducted with the manager of the "Tempe Pak Yadi" business, one of the problems in making tempeh experienced by the "Tempe Pak Yadi" business in the tempe production process is the weather where the temperature and humidity are unpredictable. In uncertain weather conditions, changes in temperature and humidity in the tempeh fermentation process become fluctuating, resulting in tempeh not being able to form on time and its quality also being reduced. Another problem experienced by the "Tempe Pak Yadi" business as a partner is the lack of knowledge about the existence of technology that can regulate temperature automatically in the soybean fermentation process. Based on the partner's problems, the service team wants to help provide solutions to the problems faced by these partners by: 1) Applying appropriate technology in the form of an automatic temperature control device in the soybean fermentation process and 2) Providing outreach regarding the benefits, how to use and care for the control device automatic temperature for the soybean fermentation process in making tempeh. The series of service implementation carried out were field survey, planning, tool making, tool testing, tool related outreach, and tool handover. The tool test results show that the tool can work well as expected. Keywords: soybean fermentation; temperature control; appropriate technology; tempeh
