Abstract

ABSTRACTInformation on important and economic grouper fish (Serranidae family) in Peukan Bada waters, Province of Aceh is very limited. This objecives of this research were to determine spatial and temporal variabilities in species composition and community structure of grouper landed in Peukan Bada, Aceh Besar District. The research was conducted using survey method during February to June 2015 on three fish landing sites i.e., Ujong Pancu, Lamtengoh, and Lamteh. The groupers were caught by using handline. The landed fishes were therefore counted and identified up to species level. The data were also analyzed based on taxonomic information and individual number of each species, community structure using the diversity index (H’), eveness (E), and dominance (D). The results obtained 835 individual, 21 species of grouper belong to 4 genera (Aethaloperca, Cephalopholis, Epinephelus dan Variola). Based on species, Epinephelus fasciatus and Cephalopholis sonnerati were the most grouper fishes in the region.  Based on community structure, diversity value (H’) in Lam-tengoh was higher than that in Ujong Pancu and Lamteh. Total grouper fish catches were not significantly different (P>0,05) among the three region. Meanwhile, total grouper fish cacthes were significantly different between seasons (p<0,05). The diversity species variation during five months of observation was affected by the differences in catches area, the condition of aquatic enviroment, and oceanographic condition. Keywords: Groupers, Peukan Bada, species composition, community structure

Abstract

Turtles are marine reptiles that inhabit seagrass ecosystems and are able to migrate deeply along the Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean to Southeast Asia. Turtles are scattered in tropical and subtropical waters mostly found in Indonesian waters, especially in Aceh waters. The west coast of Aceh Besar, especially Pulo Aceh currently has potential as a residence for several turtle populations. Some of the turtle species that often lay their eggs on this beach are turtles, leatherback turtles and green turtles. The purpose of this dedication is to provide understanding to the Pulo Aceh Ecotourism Institute (LEPA) and communities around Pulo Aceh to understand the importance of turtle conservation, and to implement turtle breeding techniques for ecotourism development in good Pulo Aceh and sustainability. This devotional activity is carried out for two days, ie from Saturday to 10 March to Sunday 11 March 2018 held at Gugop Beach, Pulo Aceh, Aceh Besar District, Aceh Province. The approach taken in this activity is the persuasive socialization and the direct practice of turtle conservation techniques and the release of sea turtles attended by tourists from various regions, government agencies, non-governmental organizations and academics in Aceh. Turtle turtles are released as much as 270 head of 480 total tail, which consists of 2 types; namely Turtle Lekang as many as 353 heads, which released 170 tails. While the green turtle of 127 tails, which is released only 100 tails. The abandoned hatchlings are in a breeding location aimed at ecotourism and research for academics to conduct research on these endangered and endangered animals.

Abstract

Plastic waste is one type of waste that is very dominant in its use in everyday life. The nature of plastic that is light, strong, durable and cheap causes the use of plastic to continue to increase, from the nature of this plastic it makes plastic very dangerous for the environment which has the potential to be a contaminant, besides that plastic has properties that are not easily decomposed in soil and water, so it can settle and accumulated over a long period of time. The Pulot Beach area is one of the tourist attractions in Aceh Besar, with beautiful natural panoramas and the potential for fisheries in this area is also very potential, so many people visit this area. The high number of tourists visiting the Pulot area can have a negative impact in the form of plastic waste that has the potential to reduce the quality of the coastal and marine environment as well as the preservation of the surrounding environment. The purpose of this service is to provide understanding, knowledge and direction to the coastal community of Gampong Pulot the importance of human awareness of the cleanliness of the sea by not throwing garbage on the beach. This service activity is carried out for one day, namely on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 09:00 to 12:00 WIB, located at Pulot Beach, Leupung District, Aceh Besar Regency. persuasive education and direct practice on how to collect waste, and sort plastic waste and weigh waste. The output obtained after this service activity is the emergence of awareness and initiative from the community and visitors not to throw plastic waste carelessly, so that the preservation of healthy beaches and seas is free from plastic waste.

Abstract

Abstract : The groupers (family Serranidae) show high variability both in body shapes and coloration leads to highly morphological-based misidentification. The research was aimed in autenthication of the grouper species using MT-COI gene. A total of 29 grouper fishes were collected from three fish landing sites of Peukan Bada, Aceh Province. These fishes were morphologically identified from which more than 8 species were obtained. A 30 mg of the fin meat of each sample was taken for DNA extraction, isolation, electrophoresis visualization, and DNA fragmentation of COI gene using PCR-sequenching.  There were 20 DNA samples was clearly visualized of which 16 has been proceeded for amplification. The results showed that V. albimarginata, C. urodeta, and C. sexmaculata showed ≥ 97% similarity, whereas C. boenak, E. merra, dan S. vosmeri with ≤ 97% similarity. Based on phylogenetic tree analysis there was 2 clearly different clades separating family of Serranidae and Nemipteridae. The use of MT-COI gene was effective and accurate tool in species authentication which could be used as an instrument for utilization and management of the grouper species. Keywords : groupers, morphological variation, MT-COI gene, autenthication.

Abstract

Mangroves are biological natural resources that have the potential to provide benefits for human life and aquatic biota organisms. Mangrove ecosystems have ecological and economic functions in coastal areas. The Gampong Lamtutui area has an important role because it is a provider of natural resources and environmental services with great potential in terms of ecology, economy and tourism. So far, the activities that occur in the mangrove ecosystem area in Lamtutui have an unfavorable impact on the mangrove vegetation in that location, due to the large number of uses of the mangrove area for vannamei shrimp pond areas, so that the structure of mangrove vegetation at various growth levels changes. The purpose of this service is to raise awareness and motivation for the coastal communities of Gampong Lamtutui to replant mangroves as a form of concern for the preservation of coastal ecosystems. This service activity is carried out for two days, from October 30, 2021 to October 31, 2021. The location of this service is in Gampong Lamtutui, Peukan Bada District, Aceh Besar Regency. The method of activity used in this activity is counseling and mentoring mangrove planting. The results of this service activity are the planting of 1,000 stems of Rhizophora sonneratia mangrove tree seeds in Gampong Lamtutui, as well as the establishment of cooperation with a group of local fishermen for monitoring the mangrove trees that have been planted.

Abstract

Abstract. Fuel is one of important components in fishing activity. The objectives of this research were to analyze the need and the receiver of fuel subsidy in Aceh Besar t as well as to analyze the problems that faced by fisherman in Aceh Besar district. The survey was done on June-August 2012 in five sub-district in Aceh Besar namely: (1) Baitussalam, (2) Mesjid Raya, (3) Leupung (4) Lhoknga dan (5) Mesjid Raya. The result shown that the average cost of one trip of fishing activities in Aceh Besar were Rp700.000. The lowest operational cost was found in Seulimum (Rp96.200 per trip) and the highest was found in Baitussalam sub-district (Rp1, 793,710 per trip). Fuel was the biggest cost for fishing activity; it was ranged 40%-73% with average 57.9%. The lowest proportion of fuel consumption was found in Baitussalam sub-district and the highest was found in Lhoknga sub-district. In average, the fisherman’s fuel consumption was 1,237L. per month; with total subsidy was Rp 5,824,737 per fisherman per month. The profit will be decreased up to 89.5% if there was no fuel subsidy. In addition, the result also shown that the fisherman in Aceh Besar did not have any skill to generate their alternative income. As the consequence, in the future there is a need to develop programs to generate the alternative livelihood for Aceh Besar fisherman as well as their family.Keywords. Abstract

Abstract. The objective of the present study was to analyze the budgetary trends and the effectiveness of fisheries subsidies in Aceh Besar district. The literature and survey methods were utilized in this study. The secondary data of Aceh Besar’s budget documents in the period of 2010-2012 and key person interviews with fishermen leaders were conducted to analysis the subsidy trend and fishermen perception. The data was collected in May through July 2012. The results showed the budget allocation to the fisheries sector were increased from year to year, in 2010 the total budget for the fisheries sector was Rp1, 9 billions (equivalent to 0.34% of total buget or 1.40% of the development budget allocation/indirect consumption), in it was increased to Rp2, 9 billion in 2011 (or 0.42% of total budget or 1.47% of the development budget allocation), then increased sharply in 2012 to Rp9, 2 billion (an increase of over 630%) from the previous year, equivalent to 1.11% of the total budget. In 2010, the proportion of subsidies were given mostly for aquaculture sub-sector, which reached 84% of the total budget that was managed by the Department of Marine and Fisheries of Aceh Besar, whereas in 2011 the proportion of subsidies occurred balance between aquaculture and capture fishery sub sectors. However, in 2012 most of the budget DKP Aceh Besar (63%) was allocated to the capture fishery sub-sector. The results of the study showed that fisheries subsidies by the Government of Aceh Besar district especially in the last two years have not yet met the criteria of sustainable fisheries subsidies. Abstract

Grouper is one of fish that has an important economic value and much in demand by the public. The increasing demand for this grouper, then it can cause this type of fish will be subject to arrest, so if this thing continue, this will have a negative impact on the fish population. This study was conducted from February to June 2015 in Lhok Fish Landing Sites Peukan Bada, which includes three Teupin, namely Teupin Ujong Pancu, Lamtengoh, and Lamteh. This study aims to determine the stock grouper (Cephalopolis sonnerati) which covers the length-weight, growth, condition factor, mortality and the rate of exploitation. The primary data such as measurements of total length and weight of grouper, fish dissection. Groupers are measured during the study amounted to 133 long tail with a range of 50-400 mm. Growth coefficient (K) was 0.31 per year with asymptotic length (L∞) of 419.48 mm and the initial theoretical age (t0) amounted to -0.126 per year. Based on the length-weight relationship, it is assumed that the growth pattern grouper (Cephalopolis sonnerati) has a negative allometric, ie the length faster than the fish weight gain. Rated average condition factor is 1.2652, it indicates the fish is still small-sized / thin at the time of the study. Total mortality rate (Z) was 0.73 per year. Natural mortality (M) 0.33 per year, and the mortality rate of arrest (F) 0.40 per year, so that the exploitation rate of 0.55% is obtained. Values exploitation rate has exceeded the optimum exploitation 0.5.Keywords: Groupers, Peukan Bada, growth, mortality, exploitation.
