Abstract

Background: Coordination is key to the success of disaster management when many parties are involved. However, in carryingout coordination in District X, it is known that there are obstacles, so coordination has not run as it should. Objective: This study aims to explore cross-sectoral coordination (COVID-19 Response Acceleration Task Force) in dealing with theCOVID-19 pandemic in the X Regency. Methods: This is qualitative descriptive research with seven informants from BPBD and X District Health Office. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with transsectional data collection, which only captures the situation at a specific time of the entire longitudinal phase of the disaster, precisely when the COVID-19 Omicron variant developed. Data validation was done by triangulation of sources. Results: The mutual adjustment mechanism has been made by holding meetings to discuss developing issues and compiling. In addition, non-formal communication is also carried out through Whatsapp groups. The direct supervision mechanism carried out by the head of the task force is monitoring and evaluation based on reporting in each implementing field through in-person or online meetings. The process of standardisation mechanism was not carried out because the activities within the task force were deemed to have been integrated with the duties of each regional apparatus institution, so it was sufficient to refer to the guidelines that had been prepared at the central level as a form of standardised activity. Conclusion: The dominant coordination mechanism carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic disaster by the task force in X Regency was mutual adjustment and direct supervision.

Abstract

Abstract

Disasters due to earthquake natural events can have an impact on the community so that people who live in disaster-prone areas are the most disadvantaged parties. The community as a disadvantaged party must be equipped with disaster preparedness, one of which is a disaster risk reduction program. The purpose of this scooping review is to determine the description of the implementation of the earthquake disaster preparedness education and training program in the community. This research is a scooping review using Prisma flow chart in its implementation. The results of this study showed significant results in all articles (n=10) in improving community preparedness in earthquake disaster risk reduction. The methods used were the latest methods (virtual reality, animated videos, and games) and manual methods (lectures, discussions, and reading) with material on disaster concepts, management, and first aid. This research concludes that the role of the community and the importance of disaster preparedness education for the community is very important to be provided by conducting the latest or modern methods for more effective results.

Abstract

Forensic nursing is a new field that has yet to be widely recognized in Indonesia. Despite the high crime rate and the large number of forensic case patients who come to the emergency department (ED), there are still no specific regulations governing such cases. This study aims to explore the application of forensic nursing in EDs in Yogyakarta. A qualitative exploratory study was conducted. The researchers conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews in the EDs of government and private hospitals in Yogyakarta Province, Indonesia. The participants were 12 ED nurses who handled forensic cases. Triangulation was conducted through interviews with two ED head nurses and three security staff, as well as a review of medical records. The data analysis comprised identifying meaning units, conducting initial and refined coding, grouping them into categories, and generating themes using the forensic nursing paradigm approach. This study identified the following themes: (1) forensic nursing cases, (2) nursing roles and responsibilities in forensic cases, (3) the significance of crime evidence, (4) forensic nursing implementation support, and (5) challenges and needs in implementing forensic nursing. This study found that forensic nursing has been implemented in Eds in Yogyakarta. However, it has not been effectively executed.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia is highly vulnerable to earthquakes, highlighting the need for optimal community preparedness. Health cadres play a strategic role in community education; however, their knowledge of earthquake preparedness still needs to be improved. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of community-based earthquake preparedness training in improving health cadres’ knowledge. Methods: This pre-experimental study used a one-group design with repeated measurements in Kapanewon Pundong, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. A total of 30 health cadres who completed all study procedures were included in the final analysis. The 5.5-hour community-based earthquake preparedness training consisted of lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. Knowledge was assessed using a 15-item questionnaire before training, immediately after training, and two weeks later. Data were analyzed using Repeated Measures ANOVA.Results: The mean knowledge score increased from 11.10 ± 1.73 before training to 14.53 ± 0.57 immediately after training, followed by a slight decrease to 13.93 ± 0.91 at the two-week retention assessment. A significant difference in knowledge scores was observed across the three measurement times (F=58.284; p<0.001; partial η²=0.76).Conclusion: Periodic refresher training is recommended to maintain knowledge retention and strengthen the capacity of health cadres in disaster preparedness
