Abstract

Expanding the workforce in the tourism sector is a key aspect of the Rebuild Tourism for the Future via Sustainable Development initiative of which tour guides may become an essential part. Tour guide positions involve providing detailed explanations about heritage attractions and instructing tourists on acceptable behaviour during their investigation of these sites. This research is significant because tour guides play a crucial role in the preservation of tourism by safeguarding cultural treasures. Research on tour guides involves analyses that explore the subject from the viewpoints of their function, history, and structure. This study aims to enhance our understanding of the ecology of the tourism industry and heritage destinations by developing a model for the competent development of tour guides at Borobudur. Data was collected through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with six tour guides in Borobudur who are members of the Indonesian Tour Guides Association. The data were examined utilising Atlas Ti version 9. The study's findings suggest that implementing a high-quality curriculum and training programmes could lead to an exceptional performance model for tour guides at the Borobudur. The curriculum encompasses the implementation of four key components: (1) the scope of study, (2) content standards, (3) the teaching process, and (4) the assessment process. On the other hand, the training aspect covers four elements: (1) training needs, (2) types of training, (3) trainers, and (4) evaluation

Abstract

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic proved to be a momentum for the Gemah Ripah Farmer Group (GRFG), even though with a small area of land, they were able to continue providing food through urban farming. They were able to inspire the growth of vegetable villages and received several awards for their contributions. This research aims to analyze the implementation of urban farming so that it can serve as food security and cash income during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research was conducted in Bausasran urban village, Danurejan sub-district, Yogyakarta province, Indonesia. The present study was conducted using a qualitative method with a case study approach, where data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, discussions, and documentation studies. The results show that the implementation of urban farming in the GRFG is effective as an alternative solution in providing and maintaining food availability during the pandemic, since vegetables and fruits are ready to be picked from the garden at any time. It reduces food expenditures and generates cash income for its members through the sale of processed urban agriculture products and educational tourism. This study provides an example of how innovative urban farming can help strengthen the economy of a community.

Abstract

The study shows that there was variation in the process of cassava-based food production. In Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) and Central Java, the farming systems were still subsistence oriented as the members still carried out traditional farming and worked without practicing intensive farming. However, the cassava-based food processing had already been commercially oriented. Some farmers have successfully collaborated with the larger cassava industry who were profit and commercially oriented. Some agribusiness units required specific varieties, but others opened to any varieties of cassava. The various arrangements have created different patterns of partnership. There were three types of business partnerships namely (1) growers and small-scale manufacturers; (2) partnership among growers, raw material processors, food manufacturers, and distributors or sellers; and (3) partnership among growers, small or large manufacturers and distributors or sellers. Among those three patterns, some enterprises had already performed a business-oriented processing method and quality assurance which requires best quality of raw cassava. This is resulted in a better selling price. Business partnerships can guarantee the sustainability of business relationships among business units. A better upstream-downstream relation needs to be developed to prevent the risks of raw materials supply.

Abstract

Land conversion for the Jogja-Bawen Toll Road has made Pakunden Village farmers survive as farmers by buying land in other villages, and some have converted to work in the tourism service sector. The tourism potential of Pakunden Village is 12 baths, 4 regional arts and the sabo dam Development Plan, which will be used as an agroecotourism site. In its dynamics, there is a difference between planning and infrastructure provided by the government. This research also aims to describe the concept of redesigning Pakunden Agro-ecotourism Village Magelang based on strengthening local wisdom as an intervention strategy for the land use change of Jogja-Bawen Toll Road. This research comprises a field study conducted in Pakunden Village, Ngluwar District, Magelang Regency, concurrently with the Adopted Village-based Community Service Program administered by the Directorate of Community Service at UGM. The research methodology employed is qualitative field research. The selection of informants in this study was based on purposive sampling, where there were considerations in the form of knowledge related to land conversion, environmental conditions of Pakunden Village and the concept of agroecotourism village development. Data collection was carried out by conducting observations, interviews, internet searches and document studies. The results of this study show that external interventions, such as the construction of sabo dam and private business opportunities through Balai Ekonomi Desa, powerfully drive the development of tourism and the local economy of Pakunden Village. However, this program is still in its initiation phase and has not been implemented in practical terms, thus the changes in the economic conditions of the community cannot be concretely depicted. Nevertheless, overall, through the sustainable development of the tourism sector, this endeavor aims to enhance rural communities and local economies.
