Abstract

The Kertosentono area is one of the dense residential areas around the campus in Malang City. The settlement around the campus is always growing every year which is filled with stalls and boarding houses. The denser the buildings in an area, the higher the potential for fire disasters to occur, if a fire occurs, the fire will quickly spread from one building to another so that it will be difficult to extinguish it. This study aims to determine the value of the level of risk posed in the event of a fire disaster in a dense settlement in the Kertosentono Area, Ketawanggede Village and formulate an appropriate fire mitigation strategy. The level of fire risk is reviewed through observation, measurement, and weighting analysis using parameters of building density, distance between buildings, number of building functions, range of water sources, area of open space, and accessibility. Data shows that the entire area is classified as high risk of fire disasters because of the very dense residential conditions reaching 93.8 units/ha accompanied by the lack of fire protection infrastructure in the area. Mitigation strategies are in the form of structural and non-structural mitigation. Structural mitigation directives are in the form of the use of fire-resistant materials, the provision of RTH at least 10% of the total area of the area, and the procurement of firefighting infrastructure in the area. Meanwhile, non-structural mitigation directives are focused on community preparedness when facing fire disasters so that they can act safely in fire situations.

Abstract

The incidence of fires in Indonesia has been increasing year by year. In 2019, there were 92 reported cases of fire in Malang City. The Malang City Fire Department recorded 57 fire incidents from January to mid-July 2023. The number of fire cases in 2023 has increased compared to the previous years, with 66 cases in 2021 and 77 cases in 2022. The predominant cause of these fires is electrical short circuits. The University of Malang Library building, which accommodates various activities within the university area, has a high risk of fire, especially if unsafe practices such as using multi-socket power strips that do not meet standards are present. This can lead to electrical short circuits and potentially cause a fire. Given that this building houses important books and archives and provides electrical facilities to support visitor activities, evaluating the building’s fire safety system is crucial. The purpose of this study is to assess the physical condition of the fire safety system in the University of Malang Library building, focusing on site completeness, rescue facilities, active fire protection systems, and passive fire protection systems. The study also aims to provide recommendations to address existing issues to improve the fire safety performance of the building and prioritize the enhancement of the fire safety system. The findings indicate that although the University of Malang Library has implemented several fire protection systems, there are still areas that need improvement to meet applicable standards, with prioritization based on the issues identified in this study. Abstract

Kata kunci: tempat evakuasi akhir (TEA), bencana, pengungsi ABSTRACT Lumajang Regency is one of the areas in Indonesia with many types of potential disaster threats. Disasters are events whose arrival is difficult to predict. Disasters have the impact of causing casualties, damaging buildings and infrastructure, and causing material and economic losses for affected victims. The conditions of most refugee camps in Indonesia are still inadequate and not designed according to the standards that refugee camps should be in. So an evacuation center (TEA) is needed as a temporary refuge for disaster victims that is integrated with security and safety. TEA design uses pragmatic design methods with predictive modeling strategies. The design process is divided into four parts starting from defining design problems, creating several alternative forms and conducting exploration, formulating design criteria, and finalizing the design results. The TEA design uses an emergency response architectural theory approach that is in accordance with the potential disasters that exist on the site, namely emergency response to earthquakes, floods, extreme weather (heavy rain and strong winds), as well as safety principles. The result of this design is a TEA that is in accordance with refugee shelter standards and can survive in disaster emergency situations so that it can be concluded that the TEA is the safest place to take shelter from disasters. Abstract

Kata kunci: Balai Latihan Kerja, Ketahanan, Gempa Bumi, Abu Vulkanik Disasters can be defined as events that threaten and disrupt people's lives and livelihoods, often in the form of disruption of economic stability or increased unemployment in the community. Lumajang district is noted as an area that is frequently hit by natural disasters, especially due to the eruption of Mount Semeru. As a result of the December 2022 eruption, more than 2000 families have been relocated to a new, safer place of residence, Bumi Semeru Damai. The displacement of such a large number of communities led to the loss of the original source of income, agriculture, which was not found in the new domicile. The affected community needs a new type of livelihood to start a new life, the existence of a Vocational Training Center facility is considered very urgent as an effort to equip the livelihood skills of the affected residents. The concept of resilience architecture was chosen as the basic concept of the design of the work training center building contextual to the new environment.
