Abstract

This article is motivated by the fact that so far the use of equipment for written batik has only relied on written canthing equipment which is commonly used by most batik artisans. Thus, it is deemed necessary to develop alternative equipment outside of written canthing. The offer of written batik equipment outside of this written canthing is the use of equipment in the form of a fruit knife which is designed and modified in such a way that it can be used for scratching techniques. The use of this tool is considered appropriate to be applied to batik products, because in addition to having a high selling value or economic value, it can also provide alternative tools other than written canthing, because the level of batik production is also required to be faster. This breakthrough or positive innovation from the use of batik tools for the scratch technique is quite important, considering the need for batik products is also increasing.

Abstract

The bonding attachment between a mother and her baby is crucial and should be established as early as possible because it can significantly influence the baby’s psychological and social development. However, the public is often not fully aware of the long-term impact of this bond. The author transforms the concept of mother-baby bonding attachment into a tufting artwork, aiming to raise public awareness about its importance. This artwork not only highlights the significance of bonding attachment between mother and baby but also enriches the ideas and concepts of tufting art, providing the general public with a basic understanding of this vital connection. Tufting art is a technique used to create textile artworks by arranging and attaching threads to fabric with a specialized tufting tool, resulting in a rich, textured surface with tufted shapes. The method used is the practice-based research method or artistic research, consisting of literature research, drawing sketches, experiments, practices and possible outcomes. The outcome of this research is a tufting artwork that visually represents the bonding attachment between mother and baby. This artwork serves as both a reminder of the importance of the mother-child relationship and an effort to increase public awareness of the emotional bond’s vital role. There is still much room for further development in tufting art, especially with a broader approach. Future research could also explore combining tufting with other art media to create more diverse and impactful works.

Abstract

Samin Village as one of the intangible cultural heritages, its existence needs to be preserved as a form of identity and heritage of a cultural tradition in the community. One form of preserving the cultural tradition of the Samin community is by providing assistance in the form of community service to the Samin community through branding the Samin village in Margomulyo Village, Bojonegoro as a cultural-based tourism village. The implementation of this activity is important because the Samin community has enthusiasm, a strong desire and is supported by tourism potential, both art and nature, but does not yet have good management and minimal knowledge in the field of art. The development of a cultural-based tourism village in Margomulyo Village consists of three activities: (1) dance training at SDN Margomulyo II with material on introducing basic movements and composition, (2) contemporary batik training with material on utilizing waste paper for batik stamps, (3) short film making training at SMKN Margomulyo with material on scripts, editing and production. The method used synergizes the active role of Margomulyo villagers, with lectures, experiments and practices. This training was conducted for one month from July 29 to August 30, 2024. The results of this community service activity were realized in the form of works of art including: the dance work "Batok Abirama", Madu Sari batik motifs, three short fictional films entitled "Bias Asa", "Cahaya dibalik Luka", "Curi". The improvement of dance, theater, batik, and film production skills was presented in the Gumregah Obor Sewu work exhibition event at the Samin Margomulyo cultural hall.

Abstract

Interactive media in the learning and playing process is an important means to attract students interest. Providing interactive media that suits children's needs in the learning process determines success in their learning. Batik with the fable theme of the Swan and Turtle as interactive media contains a moral message, especially for mentally retarded children. The creation of this interactive media aims to complement previous studies which rarely create non-multimedia interactive media that can stimulate the sense of touch of mentally retarded children. The practical method of creating this work, the creation of Practice Based Research, practice-based research is very appropriate to use in the creation process, because in this process it produces a way in which practice can produce knowledge in research that grows in creating the work. One of the main characteristics of this research is creating and reflecting on new work through practical research carried out. The results of this creation are in the form of batik interactive media with learning fable stories of Swans and Turtles using written batik techniques in the process of realising visually appealing illustrations of fable stories, interesting interactive media not only to stimulate sensory, fine motor and train concentration, but from interactive media it also teaches manners that contain character values and preserve batik as a cultural heritage and not only as a fashion product.

Abstract

The appropriate use of learning media can significantly influence students' motivation and learning outcomes. However, in the process of teaching visual arts, several issues often arise, such as: (1) students easily become bored because the learning media used are still conventional, such as black-and-white textbooks; (2) the delivery of material by teachers is less effective, resulting in students not fully understanding the material taught; (3) limited time for delivering both theoretical and practical aspects of art-making; and (4) a lack of innovation in the use of learning media by teachers. Therefore, selecting appropriate learning media is crucial to support the success of the teaching and learning process. This study aims to complement previous research that has been limited in reviewing literature related to the effectiveness of audio-visual learning media, particularly in visual arts subjects focusing on decorative motifs and the application of media in creative work. This research uses a literature review method by searching for scientific articles published between 2016 and 2024 via Google Scholar. The analysis in this study applies the PRISMA framework, which includes title, abstract, introduction, method, results, discussion, and conclusion. The findings of this study show that audio-visual media successfully increase students’ motivation and learning outcomes, attract their interest in learning, and provide new experiences in the learning process, especially considering that they were previously more accustomed to conventional media such as textbooks. The author discovered alternative media for creating decorative motif artworks using the batik technique, including dried banana leaves, lantung bark, teak wood, sengon wood, munggur wood, and klepu wood. This paper is expected to contribute new knowledge for teachers by offering references for creating decorative motif artworks through other creative media.
