Abstract

This study aims to improve children’s well-being and communication skills using emoji as a learning media. Emoji images used consist of facial emojis, objects and activities that are easily understood and close to children’s daily experiences. The techniques of collecting data were observation sheet and direct observation by researchers. This study used a qualitative descriptive method and the samples were 25 children, collected through purposive sampling, aged between 5-6 years in one PAUD in Konawe Selatan. The results of this study found that emoji media can positively improve children’s well-being and their language abilities. Children always showed huge interest when imitating, affirming, explaining and connecting emojis with objects and their feelings. Children told their daily experiences associated with emojis, hence they become the center of learning where their opinion and ideas are truly heard and understood, which is an important indicator to improve children’s well-being. The open-ended nature of emojis makes children have the opportunity to discuss emoji symbols that are correct according to them and also help researchers interpret how children see their own world. Meanwhile, language ability aspects increased during this activity were vocabulary, the children ability to provide definition, solutions and examples of certain problems, and self-confidence. Abstract

Symbolic thinking ability is one of the essential cognitive aspects that need to be developed from an early age. This study aims to explore the efforts of teachers in improving children's symbolic thinking skills through geometry play activities at TK Sangiantina, Kabaena Tengah Subdistrict, Bombana Regency. The research employs a qualitative approach with a classroom action research design. The research subjects consisted of 20 children from TK Sangiantina. Data collection was conducted through observation, documentation, and evaluation of geometry play activities. he evaluation results regarding the enhancement of symbolic thinking skills through geometry play activities indicate significant improvement. This is evident from the comparison of initial observation results before and after the intervention. Before the intervention, the percentage was 45% (9 out of 20 children), with 2 children categorized as "Developing Very Well" (BSB) and 7 children as "Developing as Expected" (BSH). In Cycle I, the percentage increased to 60% (12 out of 20 children), with 5 children in the BSB category and 7 in the BSH category. In Cycle II, the percentage rose further to 80% (16 out of 20 children), with 9 children categorized as BSB and 7 as BSH. Abstract

Early childhood cognitive development is an important foundation for achieving thinking skills, understanding concepts, and solving problems in the future. Early Childhood Education (PAUD) teachers have a central role in designing learning experiences that support this development. One effective approach is a play-based learning model, which provides opportunities for children to learn through fun, contextual, and developmentally appropriate activities. This community service activity aims to improve the competence of PAUD teachers in implementing play-based learning models to optimize children's cognitive aspects. This activity is carried out through intensive training that includes delivering theory, direct practice, and joint reflection. The methods used in the training include lectures, group discussions, simulations of play activities, and preparation of lesson plans. The results of the training showed an increase in teachers' understanding and skills in designing meaningful play activities and stimulating children's cognitive development. Participating teachers were also able to develop relevant educational media and games. Based on the evaluation, more than 90% of participants stated that the training was very useful and would be applied in daily learning practices. This activity shows that practice-based and contextual training can empower PAUD teachers in presenting fun and meaningful learning for early childhood.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to increase children’s creativity in fine arts material through the use of montage technique at TK Putri Ananda, increase teacher’s instructional effectiveness in teaching fine arts material through the use of montage technique at TK Putri Ananda, and to increase children’s learning activities in fine arts material through the use of montage technique at TK Putri Ananda. Results of the study showed that, after conducting treatments in two cycles with four meetings to remedy learning, it was found that the use of montage technique could increase the children’s creativity, as indicated by results of evaluation using an assessment guideline (BSB + BSH), which was 68.75% in cycle I and 87.5 in cycle II. These results suggested that the children’s creativity at TK Putri Ananda has increased as a result of using montage technique in the teaching of fine arts material. The study was concluded after cycle II since the minimum target of learning completeness set by the school, which was 85%, had been met. In terms of the learning completeness, the implementation of lesson scenario by the teacher reached 90%, which meant that it had been well done. Finally, the children’s activities in their learning of montage successfully increased to 87.5%. Keywords: Creativity, Fine Arts, Montage

Abstract

The Early Childhood Education (ECE) in Indonesia has experienced major change due to government policy in the last ten years. The aim of this paper is to explore and examine the implications of the policy for the Early Childhood teachers using Foucault’s concepts as important guides for this discussion. There are three major changes that indicate the reform of ECE, (1) the need of improving the early childhood teachers’ qualification; (2) monitoring teacher’s performance; and (3) reflection on teacher’s ethics. These major changes are linked to the concepts of Foucault reveals that normalizing is emphasising to construct and target the teacher’s identities. The second concept is surveillance that is needed to maintain the regulations in every detail school, particularly on teacher’s performance. Lastly, reflection for ethical judgement and concern is essential in order to achieve moral conduct on teaching practice. Throughout this analysis, it shows that it is better if the government can fully identify the difficulty of teachers in order to establish the regulation. More importantly, giving more supports to provide sufficient facilities and programs that can be reached for all teachers is a recommended strategy. Abstract

This study aims to develop children’s language skills through the implementation of the Picture and Picture method using serial picture story media. This research is a collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) employing the Asrori M. model. Each cycle consists of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 13 children from Group B of TK Beringin Jaya, while the object of the study was the development of children’s language skills through the Picture and Picture method using serial picture stories. Data collection techniques included observation and performance tests. The observation instrument consisted of an observation sheet containing 10 aspects, while performance tests were conducted at the end of each cycle to measure learning outcomes according to the targeted indicators. The results showed that children’s language ability improved significantly through the implementation of the Picture and Picture method with serial picture story media. In Cycle I, out of 13 children, 1 child (7.69%) was in the Not Yet Developed (NYD) category, 3 children (15.38%) in the Beginning to Develop (BD) category, 5 children (38.46%) in the Developing as Expected (DAE) category, and 4 children (30.76%) in the Very Well Developed (VWD) category. In Cycle II, 1 child (7.69%) remained in the NYD category, 1 child (7.69%) in BD, 6 children (46.15%) in DAE, and 5 children (38.46%) in VWD. The average score of children’s language ability reached 84.61%, exceeding the mastery standard set by TK Beringin Jaya.
