Abstract

Indiscriminate disposal of iron waste into waters or the environment will be harmful to human health and the environment. In this regard, there must be an understanding of how to properly utilize iron waste so that it can provide economic value along with an understanding of environmentally friendly technology-based entrepreneurship. This community service activity has the aim of providing understanding for students of SMK Tunas Nusantara Department of Industrial Chemistry by utilizing iron waste into ferrous sulfate. The training provided includes: environmentally friendly entrepreneurship, the dangers of iron waste, how to make ferrous sulfate from iron waste and how to package it. The methods used in the training are: improvement and understanding through lectures, questions and answers, demonstrations, and practice. During the training, the Tunas Nusantara Vocational School students participated in the training activities well and enthusiastically. The results of the training resulted in SMK students having knowledge about environmentally friendly entrepreneurship which was shown to be able to make ferrous sulfate from iron waste and continue to work on it as an alternative to environmentally friendly technology-based entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah sebagai berikut: 1). Meningkatkan daya saing usaha kecil dan menengah (UKM) dengan cara mencari alternatif sumber bahan bakar yag murah, yaitu kulit kacang dieng beserta tungku pembakaran yang efisien untuk mitra I. Pelatihan pembuatan tungku pembakaran dengan bahan bakar berbentuk annulus yang menghasilkan pembakaran dengan efisiensi tinggi serta tidak menghasilkan asap (smokeless) untuk mitra II. 2). Membantu mengurangi ketergantungan UKM terhadap penggunaan bahan bakar minyak dan gas, menekan biaya operasioanl serta mengurangi limbah padat yang dihasilkan dari oleh UKM yang mengolah kacang dieng. 3). Menambah wawasan perancangan tungku pembakaran yang efisien bagi UKM yang bergerak dibidang kerajinan pembuatan tungku pembakaran. Kata kunci: bahan bakar, kulit kacang dieng, tungku pembakaran.

Abstract

Remazol Violet 5R textile dye degradation experiment has been carried out by electrooxidation method using graphite electrodes. The electrooxidation device consists of a plastic tub with a size (p x l x h) = 20 x 20 x 25 cm which is equipped with an electric stirrer and graphite electrodes using a used battery anode. Graphite electrodes consist of 3 pairs arranged in parallel. This dye degradation experiment was carried out using a batch system (not continuous) with variations in stirring time of 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes, while the other variables were fixed, namely the concentration of dye 100.24 mg/liter, electrolyte NaCl 2.06 g/liter, 12 V voltage, and a stirring speed of 250 rpm. The dye solution before degradation and after degradation was measured for absorbance using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at the maximum wavelength, to determine the percentage decrease in absorbance and optimum contact time. The experimental results showed that the percentage decrease in absorbance was constant after a contact time of 30 minutes with an absorbance of 98.36%. This indicates that the optimum contact time for the degradation of Remasol Violet 5R dye is 30 minutes. From the experiments that have been carried out, it can be concluded that the electrooxidation method using graphite electrodes can be used as an alternative waste treatment method, especially in terms of removing dyes in textile industry wastewater.

Abstract

Spirulina sp. is a microalgae recently being developed because of its functions and benefits. This study aimed to determine the optimum growth of Spirulina cultivation using nutrient variables, which were cultured in three different containers, namely open pond batch, closed pond batch and open pond continue. Spirulina sp. was cultivated using NPK fertilizer and urea with freshwater media and light obtained from TL lamps 20 watts. The growth was observed every 24 hours for the analysis process using count booths to determine the number of Spirulina cells. Growth density rate of  Spirulina cells in the open pond container batch was 500 cells / ml, in the closed pond batch was 400 cells / ml and in the open pond continue was 290 cells / ml with the number of starter cells of 110 cells / ml. Abstrak Spirulina sp. merupakan jenis mikroalga yang sedang banyak dikembangkan akhir-akhir ini karena memiliki banyak fungsi dan manfaat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan optimum pada kultivasi Spirulina sp dengan menggunakan variabel nutrien yang dikultur dengan 3 wadah yang berbeda yakni open pond batch, closed pond batch dan open pond continue. Spirulina sp. dikultivasi menggunakan pupuk NPK dan urea menggunakan media air tawar serta cahaya didapatkan dari lampu TL 20 watt kemudian pertumbuhan diamati setiap 24 jam untuk proses analisa digunakan bilik hitung untuk mengetahui jumlah sel spirulina. Angka pertumbuhan kepadatan sel mikroalga Spirulina sp. pada wadah open pond batch 500 sel/ml, pada closed pond batch 400 sel/ml dan pada open pond continue 290 sel/ml dengan jumlah sel stater 110 sel/ml

Abstract

Research on the cultivation of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii in an open pond bioreactor has been carried out using seawater media. Cultivation using media with a depth of 10, 12 and 14 cm to the bottom of the pond, at a temperature of 30, 40 and 50 ° C. The light source is produced by a tube electric lamp (TL) with a power of 8, 15, 23 Watt. Microalgae growth was observed every 8 hours by measuring the density of the cells using a spectrophotometer. The results showed that the depth of cultivation media, temperature, and light intensity affected the growth rate of C. reinhardtii microalgae. The highest number of C. reinhardtii microalgae cells was obtained at a culture media depth of 12 cm, a temperature of 45 ° C, and a light intensity of 15 watts with a cell number of 1.65 x 108. The fastest growth rate of C. reinhardtii microalgae was obtained at a culture media depth of 12 cm, a temperature of 40 ° C, and a light intensity of 23 watts with a k value of 2.71 x 10-2 cells / hour. The highest protein content was obtained at a culture media depth of 10 cm, a temperature of 45 ° C, and a light intensity of 15 watts with a protein content of 4.444 mg / 100 ml sample. AbstrakTelah dilakukan penelitian kultivasi Chlamydomonas.reinhardtii dalam bioreaktor kolam terbuka (openpond bioreactor) dengan media air laut. Kultivasi dilakukan dalam media dengan kedalaman 10 ,12 dan 14 cm terhadap dasar kolam, pada suhu 30, 40 dan 50°C. Sumber cahaya dihasilkan oleh lampu listrik tabung (TL) dengan daya 8, 15, 23 Watt. Pertumbuhan mikroalga diamati setiap 8 jam dengan mengukur densitas selnya menggunakan spektrofotometer. Hasil penelitian didapatkan kedalaman media kultivasi, temperatur, dan intensitas cahaya berpengaruh terhadap laju pertumbuhan mikroalga C. reinhardtii. Jumlah sel mikroalga C. reinhardtii terbanyak didapatkan pada kedalaman media kultur 12 cm, suhu 45 °C, dan intensitas cahaya 15 watt dengan jumlah sel sebanyak 1,65 x 108. Laju pertumbuhan mikroalga C. reinhardtii tercepat didapatkan pada kedalaman media kultur 12 cm, suhu 40 °C, dan intensitas cahaya 23 watt dengan nilai k sebesar 2,71 x 10-2 sel/jam. Kadar protein tertinggi didapatkan pada kedalaman media kultur 10 cm, temperatur 45 °C, dan intensitas cahaya 15 watt dengan kadar protein sebesar 4,444 mg/100 ml sampel.

Abstract

The water quality of the Wuryantoro watershed decreased due to the entry of environmental pollutant burden in the form of land use and various human activities such as settlements, agriculture and industry. The land use of the Wuryantoro watershed was dominated by agricultural land. This study aimed to analyze the quality of agricultural wastewater based on the parameters of Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia, Phosphate and calculate the agricultural pollution load originating from the residence time of fertilization. Grabs sampling was carried out at 3 points of agricultural land outlets representing the entire population before entering the Wuryantoro river. The research was conducted in April - June 2015 by analyzing parameters of Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia and Phosphate used referring to SNI and APHA using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. The end point showed that the level and load of NO3 and NH3 parameters were still below the quality standard according to PP 82 of 2001 concerning Water Quality Management and Water Pollution Control, while the NO¬2 parameter for 2 days and 6 days of fertilization time exceeded the quality standard. The PO4 parameter was above the required threshold based on the Class II criteria according to PP 82 of 2001. AbstrakKualitas perairan DAS Wuryantoro semakin menurun akibat masuknya sumber beban pencemar lingkungan berupa pemanfaatan lahan dan berbagai aktivitas manusia seperti permukiman, pertanian dan industri. Penggunaan lahan DAS Wuryantoro didominasi oleh lahan pertanian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kualitas air limbah pertanian berdasarkan parameter Nitrat, Nitrit, Amonia, Fosfat dan menghitung beban pencemaran pertanian yang berasal dari waktu tinggal pemupukan. Teknik sampling secara grabs sampling dilakukan pada 3 titik outlet lahan pertanian yang mewakili dari keseluruhan populasi sebelum masuk ke sungai Wuryantoro. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan April - Juni tahun 2015 metode analisis parameter Nitrat, Nitrit, Amonia dan Fosfat yang digunakan mengacu pada SNI dan APHA dengan menggunakan alat Spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar dan beban pencemaran parameter NO3 dan NH3 masih berada di bawah baku mutu menurut PP 82 Tahun 2001 tentang Pengelolaan Kualitas Air dan Pengendalian Pencemaran Air, sedangkan parameter NO­2 untuk waktu tinggal pemupukan 2 hari dan 6 hari melebihi baku mutu. Pada parameter PO4 sudah di atas ambang batas yang dipersyaratkan berdasarkan kriteria Kelas II menurut PP 82 tahun 2001.

Abstract

Several previous studies have conducted detailed oil refining studies. Various adsorbent materials have selectivity in adsorbing components present in crude oil. In this study, coconut shell charcoal was used as a crude oil adsorbent. The active carbon industry in Indonesia is gaining rapid change. The reason is, the market demand that continues to increase either from inside or outside Indonesia. The increased use of activated carbon in the industry is due to increased use of activated carbon. Activated carbon is commonly applied in pharmaceutical, food, beverage, water treatment and chemistry. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of coconut shells as activated carbon refining crude oil and to determine the characteristics of activated carbon shells after activation by phosphoric acid. The research methods in this study used literature review. The conclusion is that activated carbon from coconut shells has great potential to be used as an oil purification adsorbent. In addition, activated carbon from coconut shells after activation with phosphoric acid (H3PO4) and test on activated carbon, it is characterized by the activated carbon of coconut shells. It has ash, water, carbon content and evaporating substances. AbstrakBeberapa penelitian sebelumnya telah melakukan studi pemurnian minyak jelantah. Berbagai bahan adsorben mempunyai selektivitas dalam mengadsorbsi komponen yang terdapat pada minyak jelantah. Pada penelitian ini digunakan arang tempurung kelapa yang diaplikasikan sebagai adsorben minyak jelantah. Industri karbon aktif yang berada di Indonesia memperoleh perubahan yang dapat dikatakan pesat. Pasalnya, permintaan pasar yang terus meningkat baik dari dalam ataupun dari luar Indonesia. Karbon aktif yang meningkat kebutuhannya terjadi karena meningkatnya pemakaian karbon aktif dalam industri. Karbon aktif secara umum diaplikasikan dalam dunia farmasi, makanan, minuman, pengolahan air dan kimia. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui potensi tempurung kelapa sebagai karbon aktif pemurnian minyak jelantah dan mengetahui karakteristik karbon aktif tempurung kelapa sesudah diaktivasi oleh asam fosfat. Metode penelitian dalam penelitian ini menggunakan pelelitian literature review. Kesimpulan yang didapatkan yaitu karbon aktif dari tempurung kelapa memiliki potensi yang besar untuk dijadikan sebagai adsorben pemurnian minyak jelantah selain itu karbon aktif dari tempurung kelapa setelah diaktivasi dengan asam fosfat (H3PO4) dan dilakukan pengujian pada karbon aktif, didapatkan karakteristik dari karbon aktif tempurung kelapa yaitu memiliki kadar abu, kadar air, kadar karbon dan zat menguap.
