Abstract

This study aimed at revealing the needs of Egyptian people after the 2011 revolution and how they could meet their needs amidst increasingly difficult economic conditions. This was literary study by analyzing Arabic literary works. It used Abraham Harold Maslow's humanistic psychology theory which holds that human needs are described in a hierarchy. To meet the needs at the top level, the needs at the previous level must first be satisfied. In the context of Egyptian society, they have freedom of expression as the highest hierarchical need of self-actualization. This becomes very interesting when told in the material object of research: people have freedom of expression but they still feel hungry and insecure, the most basic need for humans. The results showed that after the fall of Husni Mubarak, Egypt underwent a change in the political field that the Egyptian people get freedom of expression as citizens. Unfortunately, the progress of democracy was not followed by the progress of other fields such as social and economic fields. After leadership change in 2011, life was increasingly difficult with rising prices for basic necessities and Egyptian society was increasingly difficult to find work. This made them far from a decent life such as owning a house, vehicle or marriage.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the symptoms, forms, and purposes of love of the characters in the novel Fi Qalbi Untsa ‘Ibriyyah, and how they behave when their love for fellow human beings is hindered by the boundaries of their religion (Judaism, Islam, and Christianity) thus resulting in conflict and opposition within the novel environment. This research is a literature study by analyzing Arabic literary works in the form of novels and used Erich Fromm's psychosocial approach to the concept of love. The novel Fi Qalbi Untsa 'Ibriyyah presents the characters who initially live in a peaceful atmosphere and love each other, then the love turned into conflict after their different religious identities are unveiled. The characters have two choices: either following their feelings of love for humanity regardless religious identity or leaving their love by reason of obeying religious boundaries as a form of love for God. Research becomes important when it is found that love that departs from feelings of personal liking without seeing social ties can actually lead to many conflicts when it comes to meeting religious identity and its boundaries.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries that has a fairly high seismic condition. This is because Indonesia is passed by the Pacific Ring of Fire, which brings together many world plates, so it is natural that many earthquakes occur in Indonesia. With a fairly high seismic condition, there is a need for vigilance and actions taken to overcome the situation. The infrastructure sector becomes an important spotlight when an earthquake occurs because casualties are often caused by structural failures that are not strong enough to withstand the earthquake load. This is similar to what happened in the earthquake in Cianjur in 2022, which claimed many lives due to the numerous structural failures in permanent residences. Therefore, this research was conducted to evaluate the permanent residences of the community related to the vulnerability that occurred due to the earthquake. Building vulnerability testing is carried out using the Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) method with data from 11 earthquake records. Later, the building’s response to the earthquake load will be obtained, and the probability of damage seen from the vulnerability curve will be known. The five performance levels of the building are Operational Phase (OP), Immediate Occupancy (IO), Damage Control (DC), Life Safety (LS), and Collapse Prevention (CP).

Abstract

This study explores the customs and local traditions of the Nubian tribe in Egypt that have endured despite the pressures of modernization and globalization. The research addresses two key questions: the functions of the Nubian tribe’s customs and traditions that remain preserved today and the relationships between the various elements of Nubian customs. This study applies Bronislaw Malinowski’s functionalism theory, which asserts that each cultural element functions to fulfill human physiological and psychological needs. Additionally, Talcott Parsons’ Social System theory is used to understand how Nubian customs function as an integrated system in which roles and norms establish social order within the community. The findings reveal that enduring Nubian traditions include pregnancy rituals, traditional healing, the prohibition of women riding donkeys, marriage customs, pregnancy invocation rituals, death rites, and crocodile keeping. The holistic relationship among cultural elements is evident in the use of the Nubian language in rituals, oral traditions, and intergenerational communication, which serves to protect Nubian cultural identity from external cultural influences.

Abstract

This study intends to evaluate how the wedding traditions of the Nubian community in Egypt preserve cultural identity and sustain social stability in the face of globalization pressures. These traditions encompass rites such as restrictions against marrying non-Nubians, engagement ceremonies, and henna applications, expressing the collective ideals of the community. This study uses a library research method to examine pertinent material using four important functions—adaptation, goal accomplishment, integration, and pattern maintenance—are assessed in the study using Talcott Parsons' AGIL theory. Thematic data from sociological and ethnographic sources pertaining to Nubian cultural activities were analyzed using a literature review methodology. The findings show that the role of adaptation is represented by the prohibition on marriage with non-Nubians, which tries to preserve the integrity of cultural identity. Customary agreements during engagement ceremonies, which improve interfamily connections, demonstrate goal accomplishment. Collective rituals that strengthen community cohesion, like group prayers, are one way that integration is demonstrated. Pattern maintenance is accomplished by symbolic parts of rituals, such as the application of henna, which ensures that traditional values are passed down through generations. These results support the idea that wedding customs serve as a means of maintaining social harmony and cultural continuity in the globalization era

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate how the ecological changes brought about by the building of the Aswan Dam have affected the Nubian community's social structure, cultural identity, and coping mechanisms. The study emphasizes how important it is to comprehend how people interact with their surroundings considering modernization, which frequently jeopardizes the viability of regional customs. In addition to a literature review approach, a thematic analysis grounded in Julian Steward's cultural ecology theory—which highlights how societies adjust to changes in their physical surroundings—was used. The results show that ecological changes have profoundly impacted the Nubian people's cultural rites, cooperative social structures, and traditional farming methods. In response to these constraints, the Nubian community has adopted adaptive tactics to sustain its livelihoods, such as diversifying its economy, preserving its indigenous customs and the arts, and incorporating contemporary technologies. This work makes a theoretical contribution by extending the application of cultural ecology theory to the setting of modernization that upends regional customs and cultures. It also offers useful ramifications for formulating policies that combine sustainable and interconnected natural resource management with the preservation of regional culture.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the key factors influencing the continuance use intention of QR code-based payment systems (QRIS) among Generation X consumers in Indonesia, addressing the need for sustainable digital payment adoption. By extending the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Expectation-Confirmation Theory (ECT), the research explores how perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, trust, and satisfaction affect continued engagement with QRIS. A quantitative approach was employed, with data collected from 217 respondents who have used QRIS within the past three months. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to assess the relationships among the constructs, utilizing bootstrapping to determine the significance of the path coefficients. The analysis revealed that perceived ease of use significantly influences both perceived usefulness and user satisfaction, which in turn positively impacts trust. Interestingly, while trust was a significant predictor of continuance intention, satisfaction and perceived usefulness did not directly lead to continued usage, challenging traditional assumptions in the literature. This highlights the complex interplay of factors that drive continued engagement with QRIS. This research contributes to the digital payment literature by integrating perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, trust, and satisfaction into a comprehensive model of continuance intention. It offers both theoretical insights and practical guidance for stakeholders in the rapidly evolving digital payment industry, particularly within the context of QRIS adoption, especially among Generation X in Indonesia.
