Abstract

A research conducted about effect of bioaktivator of cow feces and gamal (gliricidiasepium) leaves with sweet potato nutrition toward the compost quality. This research hadpurpose to know the compost characteristics of cow`s dung composition and gamal. Thecharacteristic determined to 60% of cow`s dung and 40% gamal leaves used purple sweetpotatoes nutrition and water that made constant. The variation of cow`s dung and gamal leaveswas 90%: 10%, 50%: 50%, 30%: 70%. The research result show that in the 14th days therewere compost characteristics to produce compost based on SNI 19-7030-2004 andrequirements of the minister of agriculture number 70/Permentan/SR.140/10/2011. Thevariations of cow`s dung and gamal leaves did not effect towards C/N ratio compost.

Abstract

The synthesis of zeolite from refractory brick waste using hydrothermal technique had been conducted. Two different reactans, NaOH and Mg(OH)2, were separately employed to react with SiO2 and Al2O3 from brick sample to produce metal silicate and metal aluminate which were then reacted to obtain zeolite. XRF results show that the synthesized products using both reactants have Si/Al ratios between 1-1.5 considered as low type of zeolites regardless some remaining impurities. XRD data reveal a typical pattern of zeolite with 2 Ɵ angles of 15.91; 19.52; 25.47; 32.20; 35.54 and 41.54. The IR vibration characteristic of Si-O and Al-O bonds appears in 454 cm-1 while the symmetric and asymmetric stretching vibrations of these two bonds absorb around 679.66 – 778.02 cm-1 and 2033.96-1092.42 cm-1, respectively. The O-H group from Si-OH associated with the formation of zeolite gives a characteristic feature at 3618 cm-1. SEM analysis also shows similar morphological features with natrolite zeolite. The use of NaOH as reactant gives more zeolite product compared to Mg(OH)2 reactant.

Abstract

Abstract Research has been carried out with the title of reducing turbidity, BOD, and COD levels in laundry waste using water hyacinth charcoal biosorbent which aims to determine the surface area of water hyacinth charcoal biosorbent on reducing turbidity, BOD, and COD in laundry waste using water hyacinth charcoal biosorbent, knowing the effect of water hyacinth charcoal biosorbent contact time on decreasing turbidity, BOD, and COD in laundry waste, and knowing the effect of water hyacinth charcoal biosorbent on decreasing turbidity, BOD, and COD in laundry waste. The adsorbent used was water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes). Water hyacinth adsorbents is a plant used as a cleaning agent in waters polluted by heavy metals, reducing the movement of organic waste so asto to facilitate sedimention. The water hyacinth charcoal adsorbent functions as an adsorbent, where the adsorbents functions to control wastewater pollution. The adsorption used was water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes). Water hyacinth adsorbents in reducing turbidity, BOD, and COD are surface area, time variation and adsorbents mass. Final results the highest level of water hyacinth adsorbent surface area of 44.0754 m2 /g occurred at a contact time of 60 minutes. The final results of water hyacinth adsorbent contact time between laundry waste, the hihghest decrease in turbidity level of 47.52 % occurred in 30 minutes, the highest decrease in BOD contect of 80.04 % occurred in contact time of 60 minutes, and the highest decrease in COD was 38.70 % occurred at a contact time of 120 minutes. The final results of the water hyacinth adsorbent mass between laundry wastes, the highest decrease in turbidity content of 47.27 % occurred in 3 gram mass, the highest decrease in BOD contect was 80.04 % occurred in 6 gram mass, and the highest decrease in COD content was 37.02 % occurs at a mass of 12 gram.

Abstract

Aromatic aldehydes including chalcones are known to have various biological activities. Such compound i.e. 2,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde has also proven to be a COX-II inhibitor anti-inflammation and colon and breast cancer chemoprotective agent. This study aims to determine the toxicity of 2,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde against artemia salina L. larvae according to the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. The results showed that the 2,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde has a toxic effect with its LC50 is 70.12 µg/mL
