Abstract

Temporomandibular disorder can affect the quality of sleep. Objective: To analyze the association between temporomandibular disorder and quality of sleep among nurses in a type C private hospital using the ID-TMD and PSQI Indonesian version questionnaire. Methods: This cross-sectional study assessed the data of 92 nurses in Hasanah Graha Afiah Hospital, Depok City, West Java, Indonesia. Three questionnaires were administered to each hospital nurse. The ID-TMD questionnaire was used to evaluate temporomandibular disorder; the PSQI Indonesian version was used to evaluate quality of sleep. Results: T he results showed significant differences between temporomandibular disorder and quality of sleep among nurses in a type C private hospital (p = 0.02). Conclusion: There was a relationship found in this study between temporomandibular joint disorder and quality of sleep in a type C private hospital.

Abstract

Stress is a known risk factor for Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD), however there are few studies of TMD in people who work in high stress jobs. Accounting is a profession known for its high levels of stress and expectation. Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the intensity and frequency of job related stress and the occurrence of TMD in accountants in Jakarta. Methods: A cross-sectional study, with ethics approval from the Ethical Committee of the Faculty of Dentistry, University Indonesia, was performed on 116 accountants aged 21 to 50, living in Jakarta. Subjects were asked to complete two questionnaires; the first was the Job Stress Survey questionnaire that examined the intensity and frequency of job related stress, and the second was the TMD Diagnostic Index, which assessed TMD prevalence. Results: Fisher’s exact test showed a significant relationship between the intensity of job related stress and the occurrence of TMD in accountants (p = 0.003). Chi-square tests showed a significant relationship between the frequency of job related stress and the occurrence of TMD in accountants (p = 0.032). Conclusion: There is a relationship between the intensity and frequency of job related stress, and the occurrence of TMD in accountants.

Abstract

The focus of this literature review is to explore the process of disc displacement with reduction (DDWR) and how the treatment using anterior repositioning splint (ARS) can positively affect patients who are diagnosed with DDWR. The use of MRI as the gold standard of TMJ study allows current researcher to re-consider the common theory whereby DDWR ultimately progresses into disc displacement without reduction or other advanced internal derange-ment process. The use of ARS can produce resolution of pain in patients who are experiencing DDWR with joint pain. However, the use of ARS is shown to be effective on short term only, and its use must be accompanied by other modalities such as physical self-regulation (PSR). The lack of gold standard for the treatment of DDWR prompts healthcare worker to provide patients with conservative treatment before offering more advanced and sur-gical procedure, both of which carries additional unwanted risk. Overall, the use of ARS is shown to be very effective and non-invasive.

Abstract

The concept of minimally invasive restoration has been more approached lately, with the aim of preserve the remaining tooth structure especially after endodotic treatment. Endocrown is one type of restoration that might be the solution. Endocrown is made of glass-ceramic material, defined as a single restoration that uses pulp cham-bers as a retention and resistance form, margin of preparation is above the gingiva in order to preserve tooth structure. Endocrown was initiated by Pissis in 1995 and popularized by Bindl and Mörmann in 1999. According to late research, crown endocrown has higher fracture resistance than post-core crown. Although the literature on endocrown is still limited, empirical evidence leads to positive view for the use of this restoration.

Abstract

Cystalline metamphetamine or often called "shabu shabu" is a type of amphetamine which is the most often abused in Indonesia. Cinical symptoms of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) were found in 84.2% of 152 among amphe-tamine users. This case analysis aims to evaluate the treatment of TMD of muscular origin, with myofacial pain diagnosis. The chosen treatments are maximizing etiology-related education and supportive care that aims to reduce muscle mastication activities such as physical self-regulation, assisted muscle stretching, warm compresses, and administration of analgesics to reduce pain that patients often experience.

Abstract

Introduction: Edentulism impairs the ability to chew, eat, and speak properly. Dentures, which aim to address this issue, are also believed to contribute to a decrease in the peak intensity value and spectral width of sound formants. Formants refer to the air within the vocal tract that is set in vibration by the vocal fold's action. This study aims to observe changes in formant values between complete denture users and participants with complete dentition. Methods: This preliminary study recruited six voluntary participants, divided into two groups. The first group consisted of subjects with complete dentition, while the second group comprised individuals wearing complete dentures on both arches. All participants introduced themselves, and their speech was recorded using PRAAT® software. For the second group, recordings were made both with and without dentures. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA. Results: Significant differences in formant scores were observed across all groups. Post hoc tests revealed a significant difference in formant scores between completely edentulous subjects without dentures and the complete dentition group; Conclusion: Correcting speech defects is the third main objective in fabricating denture prostheses. Enhancing the phonetically beneficial construction of denture quality improves psychosocial parameters, including quality of life and socialization abilities, and accelerates successful Prosthodontic treatment. The findings indicate that the format score of a person with a complete denture is not substantially different from that of an individual with complete dentition. Conversely, individuals who have lost their complete dentures and not using complete denture may exhibit significant differences in formant score.
