In the current technological development, the electric motor is the most popular in various industrial applications. Electric motors today have evolved very quickly and have a significant impact on the lives of the wider community. The use of environmentally friendly and efficient energy is one of the reasons why this motorbike has become a pioneer of technological advances, especially in the automotive world. This research focuses on conducting a comprehensive analytical study on one type of electric motor, namely synchronous because it is widely applied in various conditions today. The analysis was carried out using a computational method by applying the finite element as a method of solving the magnetic field case involving Maxwell's equations and its impact on the torque generated in this synchronous motor. From the computation results, it is found that this synchronous motor does have a high torque when the magnetic field flux works constantly at 0.015 Wb. With an average torque generated by this synchronous motor of 1.5 kW.

Abstract

The computational study discusses the application of the co-flow jet technique as a fluid flow control device on the NACA 0015 airfoil. The numerical equation used is the RANS equation with the k-ε turbulence model. There are three variations of the mesh proposed in this paper. The first variation is a fine mesh with 100,000 elements. The second variation is a medium mesh with 50,000 elements. Meanwhile, the third variation is coarse mesh with 25,000 elements. Based on the mesh independence test results, the mesh with the lowest error value is the fine mesh. Co-flow jet is proven to control fluid flow on the upper side of NACA 0015. Co-flow jet can also improve the aerodynamic performance of NACA 0015 by increasing Cl and decreasing Cd. The increase in Cl was 114% and the decrease in Cd was 24%. The fluid flow separation on the upper side of the airfoil can also be handled well by the co-flow jet.

Abstract

This study uses a numerical method to analyze the cavity's use on the airfoil's trailing edge and the aerodynamic effects it generates. The type of airfoil used is NACA 4415. The variations in the Reynolds number examined in this study are 2×105 and 3×105. The governing equation is the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes paired with the k-ε turbulence model. This study concludes that the cavity can increase Cl in the airfoil but cannot delay the stall. The increase in Cd is also a negative effect of using a cavity in the airfoil. The cavity can increase Cl by increasing the pressure on the lower side near the trailing edge. Meanwhile, the cavity increases Cd because it creates a separation of the fluid flow, forming a vortex when viewed in a streamlined form of fluid flow.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of variations in the micro geometry with various forms as passive flow control devices on the aerodynamic capability of the airfoil. Micro-cylinder, micro-slat, and micro-cube are installed close to the leading edge of the NACA 4415 airfoil as a micro geometric variation of passive flow control devices with a predetermined diameter of 3% c located at coordinates x= 0% c and y= 8 %c of the leading edge of the airfoil. The Reynolds number used in this study is Re = with AoA variations from 0°-30°. This study's results show a decrease in Cl of 12% with a micro-cylinder, 26% with a micro-slat, and 28% with a micro-cube. In addition, the Cd produced by using the variation of the device micro geometry has increased significantly. Thus, the final result is a lift-to-drag ratio of more petite than the without micro. In the streamlined contour shown when the airfoil is at a high angle of attack, the use of micro geometric variations of passive flow control devices can have an effect that causes reduced recirculation that occurs in the airfoil. However, the impact of these devices is not optimal, resulting in a reduction in the aerodynamic capability of the NACA 4415 airfoil.

Abstract

This study was conducted using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method using the Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) approach. The type of airfoil used in this study is the asymmetry NACA 4415 airfoil type. In this paper, computational tests were carried out on the airfoil with the addition of bionic flaps on its trailing edge. This study's update tests three variations of the Reynolds number: Re = 106, Re = 5 × 105, and Re = 3 × 105. The airfoil test was carried out at AoA 0°–25°. The addition of bionic flaps causes a decrease in lift performance at low AoA, but at high AoA, it can increase lift performance on airfoils. In addition, adding a bionic flap on the airfoil can delay the occurrence of a stall. At AoA 10°–13°, the Cd of the three variations of the Reynolds number experiences an increase in performance. Then, from this computational test, the resulting Coefficient moment (Cm) is a pitch down because the torque is below zero.

Abstract

Effective thermal management is critical for the safety and performance of lithium-ion batteries. This study numerically investigates a liquid cooling system with a mini-channel cold plate, focusing on how different coolant ṁ affect the thermal performance of an 18650 cylindrical lithium-ion battery module. Simulations were conducted using three mass flow rate (ṁ) 0.0001, 0.0003, and 0.0005 kg/s to evaluate their impact on maximum temperature (Tmax) and temperature difference (ΔT). Results show that increasing the ṁ significantly lowers the battery's maximum temperature. besides, increasing the ṁ will cause a higher pressure drop. All configurations successfully maintained excellent temperature uniformity, keeping the temperature difference well below the critical 5°C threshold. Therefore, this study confirms the system's effectiveness and highlights the necessity of optimizing (ṁ) based on the trade-off between thermal efficieny and pressure drop for designing reliable battery thermal management systems.

Abstract

Internal flows in pipes are studied in greater depth and comprehensiveness in research. The computation done by using RANS equation. In particular, this study uses two equations turbulence model which is k-ε turbulence model. Mesh with 2×106 element is used because it is a mesh with lowest error. The research focuses on the effect of the curvature ratio (Rc) at the bend on changes in fluid flow characteristics. The Rc variations chosen in this study were 0.01, 0.02, and 0.03. The pipe diameter is 0.01 m, resulting in Rc/D=1, Rc/D=2, and Rc/D=3. At Rc/D=1, the maximum fluid flow velocity is in an area closer to the inner core than the outer core. The fluid velocity distribution is also more even if Rc/D=1 is enlarged. The fluid flow separation appears in the pipe with Rc/D=1, but the fluid flow separation in Rc/D=2 and Rc/D=3 is not visible. The separation is at α=75.96º, while the reattachment location is at x/D=0.014.

Abstract

Despite the favorable mechanical properties of Anadara Granosa Shell (AGS), particularly hardness, its influence on the wear resistance of Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) remains insufficiently explored. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the potential of AGS waste as an eco-friendly reinforcement for Al6061 alloy. Composites were fabricated with 0 wt%, 5 wt%, 10 wt%, and 15 wt% AGS addition. Wear behavior of each specimen was evaluated using sandblast with SiO2 as the erodent particles. The investigation also involved the microstructure and wear mechanism observation using optical microscope and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). In addition, the hardness of each material measurement using Vickers hardness test was included to obtain a comprehensive insight. The results shows that the AGS reinforcement was evenly distributed within the matrix, though a minor presence of voids was observed. The hardness of specimens exhibited a consistent increase proportional to the AGS content. Interestingly, the erosion rate showed no significant difference between the 0 wt% and 5 wt% AGS additions, but drastically increased with 10 wt% and 15 wt% reinforcement. This suggests that hardness is not the primary factor governing the erosion behavior in these composites. Analysis of the worn surfaces revealed a prevalent wear mechanism: reinforcement particle peel-out, which became more severe at 10 wt% and 15 wt% AGS concentrations. Conversely, the unreinforced (0 wt%) Al 6061 alloy displayed ripple formation, indicating a plastic deformation mechanism typical of a ductile material. Therefore, this study highlights the critical importance of considering the wear mechanism, specifically the susceptibility to particle pull-out, when evaluating the erosive wear behavior of Al6061 MMCs reinforced with Anadara Granosa Shell waste.

Abstract

Abstract

The topic of airfoil modification and its impact on aerodynamic performance is a highly debated issue in aerospace engineering circles. This study examines the effect of the NACA 4415 bio-inspired nose airfoil on its aerodynamic performance by adding spinner dolphin and roughtoothed dolphin geometries to the leading edge using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method at a Reynolds number of Re = 106. Simulations were conducted to analyze changes in the lift coefficient (Cl), drag coefficient (Cd), and moment coefficient (Cm), which serve as indicators of aerodynamic performance and stability. The results show that the baseline NACA 4415 airfoil produces the highest lift and the lowest drag overall, making it suitable for applications requiring maximum lift and minimum drag. Spinner dolphins has a smaller percentage increase in Cd, at 41.933%, compared to the baseline. In contrast, roughtoothed dolphins with an average percentage of 56.004% compared to the baseline exhibit a higher percentage increase in Cd. Conversely, in the Cl data, the percentage decreased in   dolphins has a larger average, namely -14.607%, compared to the baseline, whereas the spinner dolphin type only has an average of -8.713%. In the Cm data, the Roughtoothed Dolphin and Spinner Dolphin have higher and more stable Cm than NACA 4415. This study confirms that bio-inspired modifications can significantly impact aerodynamic performance, depending on operating conditions.
