The objective of this research is to investigate the language learning strategies used by Thai students in learning English and Indonesian. This research used the descriptive qualitative method in collecting and analyzing the data. The result showed that average mean score of the use of language learning strategies in English is lower than in Indonesian and there are significant differences in language strategies used by the Thai students in learning English and Indonesian. Therefore, it can be concluded that the students used different language strategies in different setting. The informal setting in which language learning can naturally happen will give more chance for language learning to use language strategies than in formal setting. Therefore, it is better for English teachers and the students to consider the use of the language learning strategies and design the teaching instruction and activities based on the use of language learning strategies so that the teaching learning process can be optimized. Keywords: language learning strategies, learning english, learning indonesian.

Abstract

Natural hazards and climate change significantly threaten almost every small island. This is due to the small island's isolation and lack of resources. Ternate Island is a small island that is now afflicted by this issue. Geographically, the island is surrounded by active plates and volcanic paths, making it at risk of serious catastrophes. Population growth and limited land resources also contribute to a high disaster susceptibility. We characterize the features of the small island of Ternate by classifying the types of disasters that threaten it based on a literature database. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, extreme weather events, and tsunamis are natural disasters that occur often in Ternate. Additionally, these findings indicate the significant importance of a multi-hazard approach to disaster response. Our examination concludes with some recommendations for establishing the resilience of Ternate City.

The results of the analysis show that there are eight platforms used by lecturers as digital-based learning media, namely Zoom Cloud Meeting, Whatsapp Group, Google Classroom, Youtube Channel, Google Meet, Google Form, Facebook, and Instagram. In addition, the results of the analysis generally show that the use of digital-based platforms in the learning process is less effective. Some of the issues discovered include lack of supporting facilities that make the learning is not optimal, lack of lecturers’ ability to manage digital-based learning, and lack of learning innovation that makes the integration of technology in learning is not achieved. The results of this study can certainly be a reference for both universities in making policies, especially regarding digital-based learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This study aims to develop, determine the feasibility and attractiveness of learning in the form of learning media based on mobile learning on Bani Umayyah material as an alternative learning. The type of research used is research and development with the Borg and Gall model. Product feasibility is carried out by validating material experts and media experts. Then the researchers conducted a small group attractiveness test to 10 students and a field trial by 35 students to see the students' responses. This research produces a product in the form of an SKI learning application that contains material for the Bani Umayyah chapter 1. The results show that mobile learning-based learning media is feasible with a percentage achievement of 83.4% according to material experts and 85.2% according to media experts. The results of the trial on students showed a percentage of 85.6% with very interesting criteria. So it can be concluded that mobile learning-based learning media with decent quality and attractiveness can be effectively used as alternative learning media. Therefore, more rigorous studies on the development of mobile learning principles and frameworks in various contexts are necessary for future Islamic studies.

Abstract

In the midst of the accelerating pace of change in the modern world, critical and creative thinking skills are important for every individual, especially students.  Educators must understand their role in helping students develop critical and creative thinking skills. This study aims to apply the Experiential based Environmental Socio Scientific Issues learning (EBESSIL) model and test its effect on improving students' critical and creative thinking skills. The type of research was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of 70 students taken from SMA Negeri 1 Tiga Dihaji and SMA Negeri 1 Buay Sandang Aji class X South Sumatra. Data collection of students' critical and creative thinking skills using test instruments. The instrument was tested for construct validity using LISREL with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Data analysis technique using MANOVA test. The results showed that the average value of students' critical and creative thinking skills in the experimental group was higher. The results of the MANOVA analysis showed that the learning model used had a significant effect on students' critical and creative thinking skills and was effective with a high category. The effect size value obtained d = 1.66 with a high category at a probability of excellence of 80%. Thus learning using the EBESSIL model is more effective and has a high influence on the ability of critical and creative thinking skills. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the application of the EBESSIL learning model is more effective in improving students' critical and creative thinking skills. Researchers recommend that the EBESSIL learning model can be applied in high schools to help schools improve students' critical and creative thinking skills.
