Abstract

This study aims to elaborate on the rise of The At-Taqwa Grand Mosque as the Jami' mosque and the long-standing great mosque of Sang Cipta Rasa in Cirebon, West Java, in 1963. The emergence of the At-Taqwa not only drove the rise of new Jami mosques in the Cirebon in the following years but also brought about the contestation of religious authority since mosques function as a source of religious authority in Islam. The study rests on the history of the Great Mosque of Sang Cipta Rasa as the first Jami Mosque in Cirebon, the emergence of the At-Taqwa as the Grand Mosque, and the implications of the two Jami mosques in the context of contesting the authority of religiosity in the Muslim community in Cirebon. The method used in this study is based on a historical analysis approach. The study shows that the Sang Cipta Rasa enjoyed as the source of religious authority in Cirebon and neighborhood areas for an extended period. However, the rise of the Grand Mosque of At-Taqwa also diminished the stature of the Sang Cipta Rasa mosque as the sole source of religious authority. On the other hand, it further strengthened the spreading of their authority in Cirebon based on mosques.

Abstract

This paper seeks to reveal and analyze the language of religion in the perspective of logical positivism. Where the discussion of religious languages is a complicated and much debated discussion. In the philosophy of flow which criticizes the language of religion is a logical flow of positivism because according to the flow of logical positivism everything that cannot be measured has no meaning. This flow is more concerned with efforts to determine the meaning or meaninglessness of a statement in philosophy and science, not on the statement whether right or wrong. In the language of religion, first, the expressions used to explain the object of metaphysical thought, especially about God. Second, the language of the scriptures, especially the language of the Qur'an. Third, the language of religious ritual is so real, the strength and function of a religious symbol. It can be concluded that the flow of logical positivism philosophy with religion cannot be connected because it has a different language scope, which repels each other regarding the discussion of logical positivism having the principle of verification in the language of religion about divinity (metaphysics).

Abstract

Abstract.  This study intends to examine the role of Arabic in comprehending Islamic law. This research was conducted to provide an overview of Arabic for observers of Islamic law, focusing on the elements of nahwu, shorof, balaghah, and mantiq. This is because the Quran and Hadith, the primary sources of Islamic law, are written in Arabic. This research was a literature study using the descriptive analysis method to examine the importance of mastering Arabic in the study of Islamic law. Sources of research data were obtained from various references that include books, journals, and other references related to the research theme. The result showed that Arabic is essential for comprehending the Al-Quran and Hadith as the primary sources of Islamic law. The Arabic language used by the Qur'an was much higher than the Arabic language that developed in the community. In Arab society during the Jahiliyah era, the Arabic language had reached its qimmah (glory) and was mature in terms of its grammar, vocabularies, uslub (language style), and balaghah. Al-Qur'an and hadith cannot be separated from Arabic, hence the accuracy with which both are read and comprehended will determine whether or not Islamic law is established. Keywords: Arabic, Al-Qur’an, Islamic Law, Spirit of Islam
