Abstract

Elderly individuals are vulnerable to cognitive decline due to aging, which affects memory, attention, and executive functions. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Brain Game Puzzle intervention on cognitive function among elderly residents at the Karawang Social Rehabilitation Center for the Elderly (PRSLU). A pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design was applied to 31 elderly participants selected by purposive sampling. The intervention involved Puzzle games conducted twice weekly for three weeks, with each session lasting 30 minutes, and cognitive function was assessed using the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE). The Wilcoxon test showed a significant improvement in cognitive function post-intervention (p=0.001), with the proportion of elderly with severe cognitive impairment decreasing from 87.1% to 41.9%. These findings support the neuroplasticity theory that cognitive stimulation can maintain and enhance brain function in the elderly. This study implies that Brain Game Puzzle is an effective, low-cost, and easily applicable non-pharmacological intervention that can be implemented routinely in elderly care facilities to prevent cognitive decline.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by increased blood glucose levels, known as hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion and insufficiency of insulin function itself and can result in death or disability, and have a significant impact on the quality of life of sufferers. This study aims to identify the characteristics of respondents and provide a demographic overview of the relationship between family support in compliance with treatment in Diabetes Mellitus patients at Sentra Medika Cibinong Hospital. This study uses a cross-sectional quantitative research method and emphasizes the time spent measuring or observing dependent and independent variable data one by one on 62 samples from 160 populations in October to November at Sentra Medika Cibinong Hospital. Based on the Kolmogorov-Smirnov data normality test and the research obtained asymp.sig (2-tailed) of 0.576 or > 0.05 meaning that the data is normally distributed and based on the statistical analysis of the chi-square test shows that P-Value = 0.005 (P <alpa 0.05), then Ha is accepted which means that there is a relationship between high family support and increased compliance with care at Sentra Medika Cibinong Hospital. From the results of this study, data analysis and discussion, the purpose of the study has been answered, namely there is a relationship between family support and compliance with care in diabetes mellitus patients at Sentra Medika Cibinong Hospital in 2024. The results of this study are expected to provide input for Sentra Medika Cibinong Hospital in an effort to provide promotion to diabetes mellitus patients regarding the importance of maintaining compliance in carrying out self-care activities.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by high blood sugar levels due to impaired insulin production or use. The global prevalence of DM in 2021 reached 10.5% and is projected to increase to 12.2% by 2045. In Indonesia, the prevalence of DM in 2021 was recorded at 10.8% or around 19.5 million cases, while in Bekasi Regency, the prevalence of T2DM in 2022 reached 8.04% per 100 population. This study aims to evaluate the effect of Stevia (Steviol Glycosides) extract consumption on reducing blood sugar levels in T2DM patients. The research method used a quasi-experiment design with two group pre-post design, involving 76 T2DM patients who were divided into two groups, namely the intervention group given Stevia extract and the control group without treatment. The results of data analysis showed that before the intervention, there was a significant difference in blood sugar levels between the two groups (p = 0.000), with higher blood sugar levels in the intervention group. After the intervention, Stevia extract consumption was shown to significantly reduce blood sugar levels compared to the control group (p = 0.023). The conclusion of this study is that Stevia extract consumption has a significant effect on reducing blood sugar levels in T2DM patients, so it can be considered as a complementary therapy in the management of type 2 DM in the community.

Abstract

Breast cancer is a malignant neoplasm of the breast tissue and remains one of the leading health problems among women worldwide. Early detection can be performed through Breast Self-Examination (BSE), which is considered simple, cost-effective, and non-invasive. However, the level of knowledge and practice of BSE among adolescent girls remains low. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with BSE behavior among female students at SMA Nurul Yaqin, Bekasi Regency. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 35 students from grades X–XII selected through total sampling. A structured questionnaire was used to measure knowledge, attitudes, information exposure, family support, and healthcare provider support. The results showed that knowledge (p = 0.003; OR = 13.500), attitude (p = 0.005; OR = 8.250), information exposure (p = 0.027; OR = 6.476), family support (p = 0.008; OR = 10.286), and healthcare provider support (p = 0.046) were significantly associated with BSE behavior, whereas age was not significant (p = 0.565; OR = 2.923). These findings highlight the need to strengthen school- and family-based health education through structured interventions that enhance health literacy, motivation, and social support to encourage consistent early detection practices.
