Abstract

The integration of Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs) into shared industrial workspaces requires robust safety mechanisms to mitigate collision risks without compromising operational efficiency. Conventional binary safety systems often trigger abrupt emergency stops, leading to mechanical wear and production bottlenecks. This study aims to develop an adaptive decision-making framework for AGV safety based on real-time spatial risk assessment. The proposed approach uses a 3D LiDAR sensor to map unstructured environments and employs the Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN) algorithm to identify dynamic obstacles. A multi-tiered risk zone logic—comprising Danger, Caution, and Ready zones—is implemented to regulate braking responses compliant with ISO 12100 standards autonomously. Experimental validation was conducted through static, linear, and complex non-linear trajectory scenarios. Results indicate that the system successfully eliminates environmental noise and maintains continuous object tracking during erratic movements, triggering gradual deceleration rather than abrupt halts in non-critical situations. This research contributes a scalable safety protocol that enhances Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) compliance while maintaining smoother intralogistics flow on the production floor.

Abstract

This article proposes a compact coplanar waveguide (CPW) antenna with a semicircular patch and patch arm above the feed line. The method used in this antenna research is experimental, with antenna parameter optimization, fabrication, and measurement steps. The antenna was 40 mm × 46 mm × 0.8 mm and was printed on an FR4 substrate. Antenna optimization was carried out with CST Studio Suite to obtain optimal results. Based on return loss measurement results, the proposed antenna has an operational frequency of 2 GHz–7 GHz. The antenna arm has a significant effect on the operational frequency of the antenna, as proven by a parameter study of the antenna arm. Parametric studies were carried out on the antenna by investigating the influence of geometric parameters on the frequency characteristics. Optimization results were printed then measured by a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) and a spectrum analyzer. The fabricated CPW antenna has a wider operating frequency than the simulation. An omnidirectional radiation pattern was observed at 2 GHz–4 GHz. The antenna has been used as a transmitter and receiver at 2.4 GHz, 3 GHz, and 4 GHz. The antenna is able to receive the signal emitted from the signal generator.

Abstract

Electrical energy has become a basic necessity today. As the population increases, the amount of electricity demand is also increasing. Therefore, many innovations are needed to meet these needs. One of the innovations in energy harvesting systems is the use of piezoelectricity. This research aims to create a piezoelectric-based running track prototype to produce environmentally friendly electrical energy. The arrangement of piezoelectric sensors used in this research is a parallel circuit. The research method used is the Research and Development method. The test results on the physical activities of walking, running, and jumping show that the prototype system that has been made has worked well and produces a fairly stable electric voltage even though it is still in a small amount. the difference in activity and body weight that presses the prototype produces different electric voltages. For walking activity, the prototype is able to produce a maximum voltage output of 0.83V, running activity has a maximum output of 5.83V and the maximum voltage output of jumping activity is 7.88V. The use of energy is done by storing the energy obtained from the piezoelectric in the battery, which can later be monitored directly by the voltage sensor, bluetooth module, HC-05, and RTC module the data will be sent to the cell phone so that the piezoelectric output voltage can be recorded and monitored. The electrical energy output generated by the piezoelectric is able to charge the battery and switch on the LED light at 2.5 V.

Abstract

Autonomous vehicle perception systems predominantly use red-green-blue (RGB) cameras, which experience significant performance degradation under adverse lighting conditions, with detection accuracy declining by 35–45% at night and in inclement weather. This limitation poses substantial safety risks for practical autonomous vehicle deployment. This study developed a robust thermal image-based road segmentation system using a You Only Look Once (YOLO) v8 deep learning architecture integrated with trapezoid zone detection for real-time autonomous navigation capable of consistent all-weather operation. The methodology encompassed five stages, including collection and annotation of thermal images using a FLIR Boson camera across diverse road conditions, two-stage model training employing YOLOv8n-seg architecture with copy-paste augmentation on NVIDIA Jetson Orin AGX, development of a polynomial regression-based distance calibration system, implementation of a six-zone priority-based trapezoid navigation framework, and comprehensive system integration with performance evaluation. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed system achieved road segmentation average precision (AP) of 98.3% at an intersection over union (IoU) threshold of 0.5, with an overall mean AP (mAP) of 83.3% across six object classes after the second training stage. The copy-paste augmentation strategy improved minority-class (people) detection by 14.0%. The distance calibration system attained an R² score of 1.0 within the measured range. The daytime-trained model successfully detected objects at nighttime without retraining, demonstrating the fundamental advantage of thermal imaging. The system processed at 29.8 frames per second with 18 W power consumption. These findings validate thermal imaging effectiveness for all-weather autonomous navigation and establish a framework for embedded autonomous vehicle deployment.
