Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the factors that influence the willingness of students to communicate English in the English MPK Course at Undiksha. This study used a qualitative approach, where the research subjects were 64 students in the second semester at Undiksha. Data was collected using a questionnaire instrument, semi-structured interviews, and classroom observations. The data analysis technique consisted of three activity lines; data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. From the research data, it was found that several factors that most influenced students' willingness to speak in learning English MPK were obtained from two variables; Psychological and Situational Variables. Based on psychological variables, the most dominant factors were motivation and personality. Meanwhile, based on Situational variable, the dominating factor were the topic of learning and the role of the lecturer. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi faktor yang mempengaruhi kemauan mahasiswa dalam berbicara menggunakan Bahasa Inggris pada Mata Kuliah MPK Bahasa Inggris di Undiksha. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, dimana subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester 2 rombel 16 dan 17 di Undiksha sejumlah 64 orang. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan instrument kuesioner, wawancara semi-terstruktur, dan observasi di kelas. Tehnik analisis data terdiri dari tiga alur kegiatan; reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan/verifikasi. Dari data hasil penelitian, ditemukan beberapa faktor yang paling mempengaruhi kemauan berbicara mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran MPK Bahasa Inggris yang didapatkan dari dua variable; Psychological dan Situational Variable. Dari Pshycological variable, faktor yang paling dominan adalah motivasi dan kepribadian. Sedangkan berdasarkan Situational variable, faktor yang mendominasi adalah topik pembelajaran dan peran dosen.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The character building of elementary school students faces challenges in the form of low discipline and disrespectful behavior due to a lack of leadership role models and uncontrolled exposure to social media. This study analyzes the influence of Asta Brata leadership practices and social media on student character. This ex-post facto quantitative study with a survey design involved 115 teachers from a population of 161 teachers in 17 elementary schools as the main subjects. Data were collected using a 4-point Likert questionnaire with 59 items that had been validated by two experts and were highly reliable with Cronbach's Alpha between 0.802 and 0.983. Data analysis used Spearman's non-parametric statistics through IBM SPSS Statistics 25 after testing for normality and linearity prerequisites. The results showed that the practice of Asta Brata leadership significantly shaped student character with a moderate positive relationship, while social media had no significant effect. Hindu Balinese local wisdom-based leadership proved to be effective as a dominant moral example at an early age compared to digital influences. The study recommends mandatory Asta Brata training for elementary school principals as a strategy to strengthen national character based on local culture. Keywords: Asta Brata Leadership, Social Media, Student Character, Local Wisdom ABSTRAK Pembentukan karakter siswa sekolah dasar menghadapi tantangan rendahnya disiplin dan perilaku tidak hormat akibat minimnya teladan kepemimpinan serta paparan media sosial yang tidak terkendali. Penelitian ini menganalisis pengaruh praktik kepemimpinan Asta Brata dan media sosial terhadap karakter siswa. Penelitian kuantitatif ex-post facto dengan desain survei ini melibatkan 115 guru dari populasi 161 guru di 17 sekolah dasar sebagai subjek utama. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner Likert 4 poin dengan 59 item yang telah divalidasi isi oleh dua pakar dan reliabel tinggi dengan Cronbach Alpha antara 0,802 hingga 0,983. Analisis data menggunakan statistik non-parametrik Spearman melalui IBM SPSS Statistics 25 setelah uji prasyarat normalitas dan linearitas. Hasil menunjukkan praktik kepemimpinan Asta Brata secara signifikan membentuk karakter siswa dengan hubungan positif sedang, sedangkan media sosial tidak berpengaruh signifikan. Kepemimpinan berbasis kearifan lokal Hindu Bali terbukti efektif sebagai teladan moral dominan pada usia dini dibandingkan pengaruh digital. Penelitian merekomendasikan pelatihan Asta Brata wajib bagi kepala sekolah SD sebagai strategi penguatan karakter nasional berbasis budaya lokal.
