Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe librarians' strategies for increasing public interest in visiting the North Sumatra Provincial Library and Archives Service (Dispusip Provsu) and to analyze the various factors hindering its implementation. This study employed a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation studies. Data analysis techniques followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which encompasses data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research results show that the strategy to increase visitor interest at the North Sumatra Provincial Library and Archives Service focuses on optimizing digital promotion, outreach services, and adaptive community-based literacy activities. Librarians play a crucial role as agents of change through excellent service and information technology integration to build an inclusive literacy ecosystem. However, the effectiveness of this strategy is still hampered by infrastructure constraints, low public digital literacy, and limited budget and human resource competencies. Successfully transforming libraries into modern learning centers requires a systemic commitment from local governments to mitigate these obstacles to ensure the program's sustainability amidst information disruption. Abstract

This study aims to analyse students' perceptions of literacy improvement programs at Darul Arafah Raya Islamic Boarding School. Literacy programs implemented by the Pesantren include literacy competitions, a mobile cart library, and reading corners. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach to explore students' experiences, responses, and participation in literacy activities. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving 8 informants consisting of 5 junior high school students and 3 library managers selected through a purposive sampling technique. The findings indicate that literacy programs have been implemented systematically and continuously; however, students' participation remains relatively low. Students perceptions toward literacy programs vary into positive and less positive perceptions. Positive perceptions are influenced by reading interest, attractive literacy activities, and perceived benefits such as increased knowledge and learning experiences. Meanwhile, low reading interest, boredom, and limited book variety contribute to lower participation. The study concludes that students' perceptions significantly influence their involvement in literacy programs. Therefore, literacy activities in Islamic boarding schools should be designed more attractively, contextually, and aligned with students' interests to improve participation and foster a literacy culture.

Abstract

Transformasi layanan perpustakaan menuju sistem digital menyebabkan pengelolaan data pribadi pengguna menjadi semakin penting.

Abstract

Digital technology has changed how people access information, especially through the internet, social media, and search engines. However, algorithmic personalization may limit information diversity and create filter bubbles and echo chambers. This study analyzes the role of libraries in raising public awareness of these phenomena in digital information consumption. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research was conducted at the Medan City Library and Archives Office with nine informants consisting of librarians and library users selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that users rely on digital media because it is fast and accessible, but this also increases the risk of homogeneous information exposure and weak information verification. Libraries support information literacy through credible sources, reference services, literacy programs, digital literacy seminars, digital library training, and anti-hoax education. This study concludes that libraries can help communities become more critical and selective in consuming algorithm-based digital information.

Abstract

The emergence of digital media has transformed Islamic preaching into more interactive and inclusive forms. One such innovation is the Log In Podcast, which combines religious messages with entertainment (dakwahtainment) and features interfaith dialogue. This study explores how inclusive communication strategies are applied in the Log In Podcast Season 3, particularly in engaging religious and cultural minorities. This qualitative research uses a descriptive approach with content analysis techniques. Data were gathered from eight episodes of the Log In YouTube podcast and audience comments. NVivo 12 software was used for coding and thematic mapping of both the content and responses. The analysis reveals three key indicators of inclusive da’wah namely diverse guest speakers (including Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, and cultural figures), a wide range of themes (such as tolerance, psychology, sharia, and the arts), and positive audience engagement. Comments reflect appreciation for the open, respectful tone and the podcast’s ability to bridge religious differences. Figures like Habib Ja’far play a central role in mediating dialogue, while audiences respond enthusiastically to recurring interfaith guests and inclusive discussions. The Log In Podcast succeeds as a platform for inclusive digital da’wah, creating a space where religious diversity is respected and discussed. This approach not only appeals to Muslim audiences but also engages minorities and non-Muslims, fostering interfaith understanding. The podcast demonstrates how social media can be effectively used for pluralistic and modern religious communication.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the mass media constructs the discourse of territorial conflict through reporting on the dispute over four islands in the waters of Aceh Singkil that were transferred to North Sumatra. This study highlights how two national media, Tempo.com and Kumparan.com, frame the issue of territorial boundaries that are administratively, politically, and economically sensitive. The novelty of this study lies in the comparative framing approach between the two media with different journalism styles, as well as their relationship to the potential for socio-political escalation at the local level. This study uses a qualitative method with Robert Entman's framing analysis model approach, which examines four main elements: define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgments, and suggest remedies. The results show that Tempo.com tends to frame the conflict as an administrative and technocratic problem that is resolved through legal channels and cross-institutional coordination, while Kumparan.com emphasizes the economic dimension by highlighting the potential for oil and gas reserves on the disputed islands, opening up space for public speculation, and encouraging collaborative solutions between regions. This difference in framing emphasizes the role of the media in shaping public perception and maintaining the stability of the narrative on the issue of territorial conflict in Indonesia.
