Abstract

This study aims at describing the effect of the third semester students' religious knowledge on their literal and inferential comprehension. This study is experimental since it is experimental in nature. The design used is called post-test only controlled group design. The analysis presented statistically. In conducting the analysis the writer applied statistical technique using t-test because the data were in the form of test scores representing the third semester students' literal and inferential reading comprehension performance. The data representing the third semester students' literal and inferential reading comprehension performance were collected using reading test in multiple choice format. Two texts on the basis of which test items were developed dealt with Christmas Eve and Ramadhan Eid. These two texts were selected for the two celebrations are most popular religious events in Christian and Moslem religious group. The sample of this research were taken from the third semester students of English Education Department FBS UNIMA in the academic year of 2014/2015. The total number of students is 30 consist of 15 students of Christian and 15 of Moslem. The analysis shows that the third semester students' content schemata significantly affect their literal and inferential comprehension of religious-related texts. Other researches concerning the effect of content schemata still need to be conducted in order to get more accurate or valid information

Abstract

Song is one of the teaching media that can be used to develop English language skills. Using songs in the classroom brings many benefits to the classroom. The purpose of this study is to investigate how students’ perceive the use of lyrics as a media to improve vocabulary mastery at SMP Negeri 4 Halmahera Barat. This research used a quantitative descriptive method. The subject of this research consisted of 30 students at the 8th grade of SMP Negeri 4 Halmahera .To collect the data, this research used a 20 item questionnaire given to 30 students. The result of the study shows that most students agree to use song lyrics as a media to improve vocabulary mastery. This could be seen in the responses of the respondents. The score of student's questionnaire there are 4 responses choose strongly agree, 20 responses choose agree, 2 responses choose disagree, and the last 1 responses choose strongly disagree. The highest score was 92 and the lowest score was 37. From the analysis of the scores of students is 2161, the mean score is 72.03% and the interval score is between 68% - 83%. It concluded that the majority of students agree that song lyrics could improve students’ vocabulary mastery

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether or not students' reading comprehension of narrative texts may be improved by using the Listen-Read-Discuss strategy. A comprehension technique called the Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) Strategy helps pupils increase their background knowledge before reading a material. The subject for this research is the class XI MIA 1 students of SMA Swadharma Werdhi Agung, which consists of 30 students. The researcher employed quantitative research using pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test designs. A multiple-choice exam was the research tool employed in this study. The mean score method was used to statistically analyze the research's data. The results of the students' pre-test and post-test were 53 and 80, respectively, when the data were computed. Between the Pre-test and Post-test, the students' scores varied by 27, on average. According to the study's findings, the post-mean test's score was greater than the pre- test's. As a consequence, teaching reading comprehension for narrative texts using the Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) Strategy was very successful in raising the students' mean score for reading comprehension for narrative texts

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether employing narrative texts could effectively improve the reading abilities of students in SMA Negeri 2 Tondano's tenth grade. This study employed a pre-experimental design with pre- and post-tests conducted on two groups, and a make a match treatment. As a result, post-test scores were better than pre-test scores. The post-test result was better than the pre-test since the mean score for the pre-test was 4.85 and the mean score for the post-test was 7.25. It may be said that SMA Negeri 2 Tondano students have strong reading abilities in the tenth grade. Even with a little treatment it can make them active in responding to a number of things that need to be improved in narrative text skills. So, the tenth grade pupils at SMA Negeri 2 Tondano were able to read more fluently thanks to narrative text, even just using a small treatment in the middle of learning.

Abstract

This research has the purpose of investigating the influence of Youtube videos on students’ listening skills. This research is in the form of quantitative which means that the result is in the form of numbers. The data comes from the students on 7th grade of SMP Negeri 3 Tondano which consist of 23 students. In conducting this research, the researcher implemented pre-test and post-test method to find out the influence of Youtube on their listening skills. The result shows that the pre-test mean score was 69.13 while the post-test mean score was 81.96, indicating 18.55% improvement from the pre-test. It can be concluded that, the usage of Youtube videos did improve students listening skills, as it made 18.55% improvement on the students’ post-test score.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of Marxist Feminism in Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, the writer used descriptive qualitative method to analyze and collect data about the Marxist Feminism in Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. This study uses a Marxist Feminism theory. This Marxist feminist framework reveals how Austen critiques social class and gender influence in economic structures, showing how personal relationships in the novel are interwoven with economic transactions and societal expectations. This research highlights the systemic nature of women's economic dependence and the limitations imposed by capitalist norms. By analyzing Pride and Prejudice through this lens, this research not only deepens the understanding of Austen's work, but also contributes to feminist literary criticism and the ongoing discourse on the socio-economic dimensions of literature.
