Abstract

This paper discusses the difficulties of Arabic department students when dealing with Tarkîb al-Marfû’ât subject and the using of Zoom/forced technology due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Using the qualitative approach, this paper aimed to explore whether students were negatively impacted by switch of learning mode to online. Interviews were conducted to nine students who live in remote areas, and it revealed that those students experienced delay in learning the subject due to their lack of the internet availability. Teaching activities were not optimal due to signal interference so that the exposure to the relevant material was not comprehensive. Moreover the students also lacked understanding to the subject because of the specific difficulty level of the subject. The students missed additional explanations and material from the lecturer, even equipped examples. This paper contributes to educational policies in the ways Indonesian government addresses distance learning for students in Islamic higher education.

Abstract

This paper argues the charisma of a religious leader from Kudus, Central Java Indonesia. As a kyai, he did not only inspire his followers, but also influence them. He was Kyai Haji Arwani Amin, the founder of Yanbu’ul Quran, the biggest pesantren for quranic memorisation in Kudus, and the founder and a mursyid of Tarikat Naqsyabandiah Khalidiah as well. It covers his biography, work and teaching. The perspective of leadership theory is included. Leadership at boarding school is strongly influenced by the type of charismatic leadership. A boarding school kyai as a leader is always synonymous with the type of charismatic leadership. People of the institution also have a very high loyalty to leader. With this type of leadership, boarding school was never abandoned by the people. It has been rarely found that the Islamic boarding school closed down due to lack of its students.

Abstract

This study focuses on the problems in pronouncing Arabic letters and reading Arabic texts encountered by Arabic students at the Department of Arabic language who graduated from public secondary schools. To address these issues, researchers experimented with the simulation approach utilizing a gradual recitation program of the Qur'an from easy to complex, rarely heard, and listening to well-known verses. This research aimed to identify the simulation in the gradual Qur'an recitation program suitable for promoting the ability to articulate Arabic sounds for third-year students using Classroom Action Research (CAR). Kurt Lewin proposed the research design with planning, action, observation, and reflection procedures. The researchers completed the simulation procedure by listening to multiple repetitions of well-known verses utilizing a gradual Qur'an recitation program. The findings of this study were that the method in the present study, in which the researchers use Qur'an recitation with a simple rhythm and design the familiar verses, is appropriate to improve the students' ability to pronounce sounds.

Abstract

In the last three decades, women have been the majority of undergraduate students in Indonesian higher education. However, the story is different when it comes to women as academics in Islamic higher education institutions. Compared to their male colleagues, female academics have unequal academic and lower leadership positions. There is a low percentage of female academics who have achieved the academic positions of associate professors or professors. They also have low productivity in research and publications. This article deals with the inequality facing Muslim women academics in Indonesian state Islamic higher education (Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam Negeri [PTKIN]). It asks the question: Do these problems happen due to no opportunities given to Muslim women academics to develop their academic career? In doing so, this article uses narrative inquiry as an approach to revealing the story of Indonesian Muslim academics and the voice of Muslim feminists, which is not internationally acknowledged and recognized. It focuses its analysis on the voice and career experiences of a Muslim woman (Muslimah) academic in an Indonesian state Islamic university using the feminist methodology. It aims to portray how and why female academics face unequal academic achievement. Understanding their voice of higher academic promotion is important to solve the problem of the ‘leaking pipeline’ about genderbased representation in university. The article argues that Indonesian Muslimah academics had low representation at academic advancement as they experienced more barriers than their male colleagues.

Abstract

This essay aims to show how much Leila Abouzeid, the author of the novel Year of Elephant, has developed her own discursive space in order to express the unspoken and depict the abrupt trauma of postcolonial Morocco from a postcolonial feminist perspective. The concept of "the Future" or "l'Avenir" of Jacques Derrida should unquestionably be implied in the aftermath of postcolonial Morocco. In this setting, Morocco's post-colonial fallout is obvious and predictable. The marriage, education, and administrative institutions have all been severely corrupted. Women who gave their lives in the armed resistance are now abruptly subject to patriarchy, mistreated by customs, and shunned by the law. Through qualitative description, this paper claims that the experiences of women in colonialism are celebrated. Using feminist research, experiences of women from postcolonial Morocco have been voiced and the novel portrays a woman’s spiritual journey, and it is an event of cross-cultural literary history. Published in 1989, Year of the Elephant has had a great impact on promoting Moroccan women’s legal situation in contemporary Morocco. The new millennium has signaled a new phase for women’s legal triumph.
