Abstract

The phenomenon of depression and the search for happiness has become an increasingly relevant issue in the context of modern life full of social pressures and high expectations. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of modern times, individuals often feel dissatisfied with their lives, even though materialistically much has been achieved. The writing of this article aims to know the reinterpretation of the meaning of happiness from the perspective of Jalal al-Din al-Rumi and Buya Hamka and its correlation with the phenomenon of depression in the modern era and to find out the similarities and differences between the meaning of happiness from the perspective of Jalal al-Din al-Rumi and Buya Hamka. This research is a library research with descriptive and comparative analysis to compare the views of the two figures. Research results show that happiness in the modern era is often associated with materialism and hedonism, which leads to an understanding of happiness as worldly achievements and physical satisfaction, which creates errors in understanding happiness. The phenomenon of depression experienced by modern society is often triggered by dissatisfaction with materials and difficulties in dealing with the pressures of life. The reinterpretation of happiness according to Rumi and Hamka emphasizes that true happiness does not lie in material things alone, but in spiritual pleasures that transcend physical limits. Both agree that ultimate happiness is related to closeness to God and self-control of worldly dependence, but Rumi emphasises the spiritual aspect through love of God and avoiding selfishness, while Hamka emphasises the importance of using reason and wisdom in interpreting the world and material.

Abstract

This article provides an in-depth academic analysis on five core educational concepts derived from the Qur’an at-ta‘lim, at-tarbiyah, at-ta’dib, at-tadris, and at-tazkiyah. Drawing exclusively from scriptural, linguistic, and classical sources, the study reveals that Qur’anic educational epistemology is at once divine (rabbaniyyah), holistic, gradual, ethical, transformative, and centered on the purification and elevation of the human soul. Through close analysis of the linguistic roots, Qur’anic verses, and classical commentaries (Rāghib al-Aṣfahānī, Ibn ‘Āshūr, al-Rāzī, al-Attas, al-Shawkānī), the article reconstructs a unified curriculum of Qur’anic pedagogy. The result demonstrates that these five terminologies are not isolated, but form an integrated system producing the ideal human being (al-insān al-rabbānī/al-kāmil).

Abstract

This article examines the phenomenon of hail in QS. An-Nur/24:43. In the Qur'an, there is only one verse that discusses this phenomenon. This article reviews the thoughts of both a classical and a contemporary exegete, namely the interpretations of Fakhruddin al-Razi and Zaghlul Al-Najjar. Fakhruddin al-Razi’s interpretation has a diverse approach, including rational, theological, philosophical, legal, and fiqhi perspectives. Meanwhile, Zaghlul Al-Najjar’s interpretation follows a scientific approach. This article employs a qualitative method using a library research. It discusses the interpretations of Fakhruddin al-Razi and Zaghlul Al-Najjar regarding the phenomenon of hail in QS. An-Nur/24:43, as well as the similarities and differences between these two exegetes on this phenomenon. The research findings conclude that Fakhruddin al-Razi only explains the formation of clouds through water vapor but does not elaborate on the process of cumulus cloud formation that leads to hail. In contrast, Zaghlul Al-Najjar describes the process of cloud formation through water vapor, the growth of cumulus clouds, the formation of ice within these clouds, and the role of ice in the occurrence of lightning. There is a difference in writing methods and depth of explanation, as Fakhruddin al-Razi uses the tahlili (analytical) method, while Zaghlul Al-Najjar applies the maudhu’i (thematic) approach, focusing solely on scientific verses (ayat kauniyah). However, both exegetes share a key similarity in affirming the scientific miracles of the Qur'an, employing a scientific approach, and integrating Qur’anic science with modern scientific developments.
