Abstract

ABSTRACT In modern society, women have more opportunities to participate in public spheres. However, in Madura, Indonesia, social expectations rooted in patriarchal norms still limit their leadership potential, especially in student organizations. In fact, of the 257 student organizations in 8 universities, only 18% are led by women. This study explores how Madurese students perceive female leadership, how female students view their own leadership abilities, and how these perceptions, shaped by social beliefs and gender stereotypes, influence their involvement in these organizations. Based on Emile Durkheim's concept of social facts, this study examines how family values, religious interpretations of female leadership roles, and campus and community environments shape these perceptions. Using a qualitative research methodology with a sociological perspective, this study highlights the factors that influence female leadership aspirations in higher education in Madura. The findings of this study highlight the role of a supportive environment in countering negative social constructs and empowering women to pursue leadership roles in student organizations.

Abstract

The Muhammadiyah Orphanage in Pamekasan faces major challenges in developing life skills and digital education for its children due to limited facilities, teaching staff, and conventional learning methods. To address these issues, an edutainment-based approach and digital pedagogy intervention were implemented to enhance learning quality, motivation, and preparedness for future social and technological challenges. The activities included workshops and training on Digital Pedagogy and Edutainment learning materials, as well as simulations and role-plays using a Game-Based Learning approach, followed by evaluations and participant plan presentations. The program significantly improved the wards’ digital literacy, particularly in personal security (online safety), digital ethics (cyber ethics), gadget usage, and information management, with the average score rising from 2.84 to 4.10 on a 5-point scale, surpassing the target of 75% of participants in the “good” category. Beyond cognitive aspects, the program also boosted motivation, engagement, communication, problem-solving, and independence. Caregiver training was also provided to ensure program sustainability. It is recommended that the orphanage integrate the Game-Based Learning Digital Safety module into its non-formal curriculum, enhance caregiver capacity through advanced training, and improve IT infrastructure.

Abstract

This article examines the implementation of religious moderation education at Madrasah Manbaul Uloom through two complementary models: formal and non-formal. The non-formal model is realized through institutional policies that encourage communal interaction in shared spaces without regard to ethnic distinctions, thereby fostering inclusivity and mutual respect. Meanwhile, the formal model is systematically integrated into the curriculum, ensuring that values of moderation are embedded within structured learning processes. Employing a qualitative research approach with a descriptive design, this study draws upon interviews with 15 students enrolled at Madrasah Manbaul Uloom, alongside three caregivers (ustadz/teachers) who served as key informants. These perspectives provide nuanced insights into both the conceptualization and practical enactment of religious moderation within the institution. The findings reveal that the values cultivated at Madrasah Manbaul Uloom encompass respect for religious diversity, recognition of ethnic plurality, and the active prevention of violence and hate speech. Collectively, these practices demonstrate how religious moderation education can be operationalized in ways that not only strengthen interfaith and interethnic harmony but also contribute to the broader goal of nurturing a peaceful and tolerant society. This study underscores the significance of integrating moderation values into both formal curricula and informal institutional practices, offering a model that may be replicated in similar educational contexts.

Abstract

Educational institutions are the second place in socializing as well as shaping the character and behavior of students. Including preventing students from bullying. Educational Institutions have the responsibility to prevent bullying through various efforts that can be made by educational institutions. This article discusses the efforts of the Muhammadiyah Educational Institute in instilling religious values and making other efforts in preventing bullying. The efforts made by the Muhammadiyah Education Institution are through the recitation of books such as the interpretation of the Hadith and the Qur'an, manners and morals through habituation in schools. Habituation in worship, especially dhuha worship and through lectures seven minutes after dhuha. Included in the lesson plan in the subjects of Citizenship Education, Islamic Religious Education, Sociology, Indonesian. Muhammadiyah Educational Institutions also carry out additional activities such as the Youth Information and Counseling Center (PIK-R) which is held every Saturday but this is done by high schools, while for junior high schools there has been no special effort to only socialize about the dangers of bullying. In addition, it was conveyed at every ceremony about the importance of respecting each other and not bullying their friends. However, the efforts made by the Muhammadiyah Educational Institution have not been effective in preventing bullying because there is still verbal bullying as much as 52%, in the form of body shaming, calling with the call of parents, mocking with the call of stupidity of bego, calling by the name of an animal, and calling by the name of a ghost. Physical bullying as much as 34% such as kicking, strangling, and hitting, some initially joking developed into fights. and includes a 14% relational exclusion of spreading rumors so that friends stay away and carry out demolitions. This reality shows that educational institutions, even if they are based on religious values, need to make more intense efforts in overcoming and preventing bullying. This research uses qualitative research with a case study approach and is analyzed from a sociological perspective.
