The amendment of Election Law No. 35 Year 1962 in 2005, which granted women’s rights to vote and run for office, gives a way for women to be able to get more roles in Kuwait’s parliament. However, the implementation of this law takes four years of waiting for Kuwaiti women to get the representation in Kuwait’s legislative assembly. On the national elections in 2008, Kuwaiti women were unable to get the seat. This article argues that the main impediment for women’s inability to win any seat in 11th and 12th Assemblies is caused by the failure of Kuwaiti women to cooperate and support each other. This article aims to examine the Kuwaiti women’s struggle for political rights along with the condition of Kuwaiti’s social norms which affect women’s roles. Using women empowerment theory and the explanation of Kuwait’s socio-political condition, this article also try to predict the future of women representation in Kuwaiti’s political life.

Abstract

Modern slavery in fishing industries is still a problem in maritime-based countries such as Indonesia. One of the recent cases is the disposal of Indonesian crew members in the Pacific Ocean by China fishing vessel Long Xing 629 in 2020. As a result, Indonesian crew members once again become modern slavery victims in the fishing industry. This article analyzes how Indonesian crew members became the victims of modern slavery in Long Xing 629. This paper will use descriptive qualitative research within the data collected from books, journals, articles, and news. In addition, the Eleven Categories of Forced Labor by ILO and Modern Slavery Theory by Andrew Crane will use to help analyze the case. The research shows that Indonesian crew members of Long Xing 629 become the victims of modern slavery due to their socio-economic conditions, such as poverty and low education. This condition is also supported by weak state regulation, such as weak government protection and lack of government attention, which conditions tend to lure and trap them in modern slavery. This paper believes that it will contribute to the modern slavery study in the fishing industry research field to help reduce and resolve a similar case in the future. Abstract

Energy independence and sustainable development are critical issues in international relations. As the world population grows and industrialization and urbanization continue, there is a surge in energy demand. At the same time, environmental concerns and limited natural resources have made sustainable energy systems a pressing issue. Achieving energy independence and sustainable development is a crucial policy objective for many countries. Energy independence aims to reduce dependence on foreign energy sources and ensure energy supply security, while sustainable development aims to meet current energy needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. International cooperation is essential to achieving energy independence and sustainable development. Countries need to work together to ensure a stable and secure global energy supply while also reducing carbon emissions. Renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, hydro, and geothermal power have enormous potential to promote both energy independence and sustainable development.Energy independence and sustainable development are essential components of the global energy transition. By promoting renewable energy sources, developing new technologies, and cooperating internationally, governments and organizations can ensure a stable and secure global energy supply while reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development.

Abstract

The Gulf of Guinea is a center of maritime crime, which harms seafarers, shipping companies, and other countries that conduct international trade by sea. United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a United Nations organization whose role is to address international organized crime issues including ship piracy. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime has conducted various programs to combat maritime crimes around the world including in the Gulf of Guinea (Gulf of Guinea). This research uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive analysis approach and uses secondary data sourced which is obtained from written materials collected through literature studies. Through the concept of maritime security, this study analyzes the role of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in tackling piracy in the Gulf of Guinea and concludes various factors that lead to piracy, such as political, social, and economic. This research is important to understand the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s efforts in dealing with pirates in the Gulf of Guinea and will contribute to the treaty on combating transnational organized crime. This research highlights the role of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in combating piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. Through cooperation with several African nations, the case of piracy has been declining in the past several years. The research found that the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s role in dealing with piracy in the Gulf of Guinea has not been fully optimized due to several factors that cause piracy to persist, some of the factors including the political issues, lack of law integration between the country, and non-contribution from the leaders of the pirate organization in the authorities' investigations.

Abstract

Abstract Western Sahara has been a contested area between Morocco and a liberation movement called the Polisario Front for decades. Post 2020, there are growing numbers of countries who recognize, and are in favor of Moroccan efforts to maintain sovereignty, in addition to territorial integrity over the Western Sahara. Morocco continues to strengthen its Autonomy Plan by taking several approaches so that external legitimacy can be achieved. This paper aims to analyze the current efforts of the Moroccan government; that is their approach to attain international recognition for external legitimacy and territorial integrity over the Western Sahara. The research method is Qualitative-Descriptive, with data gathering technique being Library Research. Analysis in this paper is based on the Diplomacy and National Interest theories. The result indicates that the current approach of the Moroccan government is getting assertive: tit-for-tat normalization of relations, leverage politics with foreign countries, and expanding tangible presence in the Western Sahara through diplomatic building establishments, as well as setting up international cooperations. These efforts indicate the growing urgency of the Western Sahara for Morocco, and also its non-wavering resolve to protect territorial integrity.
