Abstract

The immunization program for infants aims to get every baby to get a complete basic immunization. Basic immunization status in children can be influenced by several factors related to community behavior towards immunization. The role of mothers in the immunization program is very important because in general, the parenting responsibility is given to parents, especially mothers. The Jelbuk and Klatakan health centers have the lowest complete basic immunization coverage in Jember in 2015 and 2016. The purpose of this study is to analyze the determinants of maternal behavior in basic immunization in children aged 12-23 months. This type of research is analytic observational with a cross-sectional research design. This research was conducted in the working area of the Health Centers in Jelbuk and Klatakan in August-September 2017. Data collected from 100 mothers who had children aged 12-23 months. The sampling method is cluster random sampling. The results of the study using logistic regression tests showed that the level of knowledge and attitudes affected the basic immunization status of children aged 12-23 months with p-values of 0.002 and 0,000, respectively. Knowledge and attitude of the mother are factors that can influence the completeness of basic immunization, therefore it is recommended to health workers to improve health promotion, especially about immunization so that basic immunization coverage can be increased and the risk of diseases that can be prevented by immunization can be reduced.

Abstract

Anemia is a condition where the body lacks healthy red blood cells or there are red blood cells that cannot function properly. Adolescence is an age that tends to be a lot of activity and requires quite high energy and calories. Insufficient energy and calorie needs will cause various diseases, one of which is anemia in adolescence. Based on the results of the 2018 Basic Health Research, the prevalence of anemia in adolescents is 32%, which means that 3 - 4 adolescents out of 10 adolescents suffer from anemia. The impact of anemia in adolescents can inhibit growth, be susceptible to infectious diseases, reduce body fitness, and can reduce the spirit of learning so that achievement also decreases. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between breakfast habits and the incidence of anemia in adolescents at SMP PGRI Semboro Jember East Java. Analytic observational research method using quantitative approach. This research design is cross sectional. The results of the study using the Chi Square test showed that there was a relationship between breakfast habits and the incidence of anemia with a P value of 0.024. Suggestions that can be given are the need for education to students to get used to breakfast in order to avoid anemia. In addition, there needs to be cooperation between teachers and parents to encourage students to have breakfast every day.

Abstract

Adolescents are residents in the age group between the ages of 10 years and 18 years. During menstruation, teenagers need to know about reproductive organs, physical and psychological changes, in order to avoid risk factors that threaten the health and safety of reproductive organs. Hygiene during menstruation is important in determining the health of adolescent girls' reproductive organs. Prevention of diseases of the reproductive tract can be overcome if women are active in maintaining the cleanliness of their reproductive organs so that germs do not easily enter and cause infections. This research aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and students' personal hygiene behavior during menstruation. Analytical research method with a cross sectional design. Sampling used simple random sampling. research population 146, sample size 58. Questionnaire research instrument. Data analysis using the Kendall Tau test. The results of data analysis show a relationship between knowledge and personal hygiene behavior during menstruation at Trunojoyo Middle School with a P value of 0.039. The suggestion that researchers can convey is that there is a need for counseling and providing reproductive health education to students, both by teachers, health workers and parents, even though students already have fairly good knowledge, the aim is to reduce the incidence of disease due to students' lack of knowledge about personal hygiene during menstruation.

Abstract

Introduction: Adolescence is a transitional phase from childhood before entering adulthood. During this period, significant changes occur in physical, cognitive, and psychosocial growth and development. Psychological changes also take place in adolescents, such as changes in intellectual capacity, emotional life, and social life. These changes can lead to internal conflicts in adolescents, often resulting in strange or awkward behaviors. If not properly managed, these can lead to juvenile delinquency, including risky sexual behaviors. Many problems may arise from neglecting reproductive health. One of the factors that affects adolescent reproductive health is the confusing information children and adolescents receive about the functions and processes of reproduction. This study aims to analyze the relationship between adolescents' knowledge and attitudes about reproductive health and their use of information media. Methods: This research is an analytical study with a cross-sectional design. A total of 38 respondents were selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using the Fisher Exact test. Results: The results showed a relationship between knowledge of reproductive health and the use of information media, with the Fisher Exact test yielding a p-value of 0.027, which is greater than α (0.05). Similarly, there was a relationship between attitudes toward reproductive health and the use of information media, with the Fisher Exact test also yielding a p-value of 0.027, which is greater than α (0.05). Conclusions: In conclusion, there is a relationship between knowledge and attitudes about reproductive health and the use of information media.

Abstract

Hypertension is a global health problem that contributes significantly to increased morbidity and mortality rates due to cardiovascular disease. Dietary factors, such as high consumption of salt, saturated fat, and processed foods, are the main causes of increased risk of hypertension in the community. This community service activity aimed to increase knowledge, awareness, and preventive behavior regarding hypertension through counseling and blood pressure checks for mothers who play an important role in determining their families' dietary patterns. The activity methods included interactive lectures, question and answer sessions, blood pressure checks, and pre-test and post-test evaluations of 40 participants. The results of the activity showed an average increase in knowledge of 30.1% after the counseling, with 60% of participants having normal blood pressure and 15% showing mild hypertension. In addition to increased knowledge, there was a positive change in attitude, with more than 80% of participants committing to improving their diet and conducting regular blood pressure checks. This activity proved effective in improving health literacy and awareness of hypertension prevention at the household level. In the long term, this activity is expected to create a community of mothers who are aware of hypertension and act as agents of change in creating healthy families.

Abstract

Meeting the nutritional needs of young children remains a serious challenge, particularly in rural areas such as the Kencong subdistrict in the Jember regency, where the prevalence rate of stunting is 29.7%. This situation is exacerbated by modern lifestyles and low nutritional literacy among parents, resulting in unhealthy eating patterns. This study aims to examine the implementation of healthy eating patterns at Nurul Huda Wonorejo Kencong Islamic Kindergarten and Preschool and to identify the factors that support or hinder this implementation. The research method employed is descriptive and qualitative, taking an interpretative approach. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews and documentation from school principals, teachers and parents of students. The results of the study indicate that the school has successfully established a culture of healthy eating through policies such as providing nutritious packed lunches, banning instant foods, holding monthly parenting sessions, providing group meals and encouraging active parental involvement. However, challenges remain, including low nutritional literacy among some parents, the absence of nutrition experts, and limited school kitchens. The success of this programme highlights the importance of collaboration between schools, parents and professionals in promoting healthy eating habits from an early age. The programme is in line with national policies such as GERMAS and could be replicated in other early childhood education institutions.
