Abstract

Feminism Theory was born because of the inequality between men’s and women’s rights. Women rejects the popular ideas and opinions saying that their tasks are just handling works around the house, kitchen, husband, and their children. It seems like women’s rights in other fields are just avoided and unacknowledged. In a patriarchy world, women are just objects that could not have any opinions and ideas. So, sometimes women are treated unfairly, especially in the world of politics. As a reaction to that, the waves of Feminism exist. This wave exists in four different types of waves, with one of them is to fight for women’s rights in the world of politics. Globalization, the thing that responsible for the connectivity of the world and easing the flow of information, helps developing the Feminist movement and drives women to have a better awareness of their rights. This research uses historical comparative method, executed by collecting references related to the theme of the research and then comparing it. Based on the results of the research, it shows that the more integrated world, thanks to globalization, plays the role as the drive behind the development of women’s role in the world of politics as well.

Abstract

The nuclear conflict between the US and Iran is one that is complicated to be resolved. Although the prevailing conflict has not reached the point of war, the political and social tensions precipitate concerns to the international security. Various stakeholders are involved, not only the government, but also the society as external parties in influencing the conflict. Therefore, this research centralises on examining interfaith dialogue as one of the approaches in efforts to transform the conflict through describing and analysing its process, role, and limitations in addressing nuclear conflict between the US and Iran. Sample data are obtained through a literature study by collecting secondary data. This research draws on three examples of interfaith dialogue between the US and Iran upon examining the interfaith dialogue approach's process, role, and limitations examined through the Constructivist theory, which were conducted by (i) USCCB and the Society of the Seminary Teachers of Qom, (ii) MCC and IRCS with IKRI, and (iii) Washington National Cathedral with Former President Khatami. This research indicates that the roles of interfaith dialogue are to prevent the escalation of conflict escalation and to facilitate conflict transformation process. However, this approach still needs to overcome numerous limitations as conflicted parties still show no signs of subsiding. These limitations are rooted from the strong ideas and identities of the two countries and the process of the approach itself.

Abstract

Covid-19 pandemic has opened a new chapter in the International Relations sphere. Its spread is accelerated by the advancement of technology that only globalization has made possible. Among several measures to survive, vaccines are perceived as critical and controversial. The objective of this research is to grasp a better understanding from different perspectives of stakeholders in International Relations, regarding interdependence between developing and developed countries in the international system, using the vaccine. In doing so, this research also analyzes the dynamics in the ASEAN context. Neoliberalism serves as the ore theoretical framework alongside the concepts of interdependence and international cooperation. This research is a qualitative one, using mostly primary data that is gathered from an interview with academicians, researchers, government officials, and students – and secondary data. The results show that the ongoing pandemic has directed developing countries to depend on developed countries with capabilities in vaccines production, including ASEAN member states. The fact that vaccines are even used as a political instrument is found ill-fitted. However, there is still confident that this dependency will move to interdependency once developing countries have found effective strategies in coping with the situation – and it has started.

Abstract

Storytelling is believed to be an effective instrument in passing on knowledge, values, and characters. Not only in Indonesia, but storytelling is also performed by various nations across the earth. Storytelling allows people to enjoy the entertaining process of values or characters construction. People learn without feeling lectured. Peace studies scholars have proven the contribution of story and storytelling in keeping the memory, recovering, and peacebuilding. Having that acknowledged, the Youth & Peace Project under the Department of International Relations initiated the idea of creating a book entitled “Bercerita untuk Bina Damai: Kumpulan Cerita Rakyat dari Berbagai Penjuru Dunia.” It is safe to say that this is a blessing in disguise from Covid-19 pandemic. Our students who should have had their internships on the field then enrolled in one course as alternative. The idea was then integrated to Conflict Resolution class. Students were asked to retell a story that has peace aspect. After a tight screening and reviewing process, this book is published. Its main objective is as peacebuilding reading material that can be read to anyone and anytime or to be used as ice breaking/closing activity during a workshop/community service.

Abstract

As the follow up of our community service “Workshop of Peace and Conflict Resolution Skill for Sekolah Erenos” that was conducted in 2018-2019, Youth & Peace Project of Department of International Relations together with Sekolah Erenos acknowledged the necessity of integrating peace education sustainably into learning process at school. This is crucial as character building is not an instant process; it requires discipline, commitment, and a blueprint. For this, our team with Sekolah Erenos agreed to continue our community service in form of module writing. This community service aims to create an integration module that will be used in daily learning process. Inside there will be an integration of the school’s vision and mission with peace and conflict resolution skills through intra-curricular activities from various subjects, so the students will be able to have an internalization. The module writing process will entail series of Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and workshop that focus on: (1) Sekolah Erenos’ vision and mission, (2) Characters and Values, (3) Integration Strategy, (4) Module Presentation, (5) Activities and Evaluation, (6) Module Organizational, Content, and Writer. The process will gradually incorporate the results of FGDs and workshop into a module that will entirely be the school’s ownership.

Abstract

Australia and Indonesia have a turbulent relationship. One of Australia's foreign policies towards Indonesia is assistance in efforts to strengthen Indonesia's food security through the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Promoting Rural Incomes through Support for Markets in Agriculture (AIP-PRISMA) program. This is indeed unique, considering that Australia usually supports food security globally or specifically to countries on the continent of Oceania and underdeveloped countries. This research is conducted to examine the factors that influenced Australia in implementing the program and the impact the program gives as an effort to strengthen Indonesia's food security. This research uses a qualitative approach; explanatory, case study, and descriptive methods; and narrative and illustrative analytical techniques. The data used is collected through literature studies and online searches. The research employs Constructivism theory, with the concept of identity and action, the logic of appropriateness, national interest, and foreign policy. This research focuses on the elaboration of Australia's identity and its foreign policy orientation towards a country it considers important, such as Indonesia. The results of the research show that the implementation of the AIP-PRISMA program is driven by Australian identity and national interests. The AIP-PRISMA program itself has succeeded in strengthening Indonesia's food security, especially in Eastern Indonesia. Subsequently, the implementation of the program in turn helped Australia achieve its national interests.

Abstract

Providing sustainable energy has become a global priority in the face of increasingly alarming climate change. Renewable energy is a key solution to minimize environmental impact, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and decrease reliance on fossil fuels that accelerate climate change. Indonesia, with its significant potential for renewable energy, has adopted strategies and policies supporting the development of renewable energy, emphasizing the role of environmental diplomacy in achieving these goals. Indonesia's position in regional and global geopolitics also influences the applied renewable energy policies. This study employs qualitative research methods and secondary data collection to gather information from literature sources, government reports, scientific journals, and news articles. This method allows researchers to analyze historical data, policies, and practices related to renewable energy in Indonesia, providing a comprehensive overview of Indonesia's diplomatic strategies for adopting and promoting renewable energy. The research will be analyzed from a neoliberal institutionalism perspective, emphasizing the importance of international institutions in achieving goals. Indonesia seeks international partnerships to develop and invest in renewable energy projects. This reflects a neoliberal institutionalist approach to energy sector development, with an emphasis on cooperation among states, technology transfer, and access to global financial resources. Through the neoliberal institutionalism framework, Indonesia's environmental diplomacy strategy in renewable energy development reflects the government's efforts to achieve balanced economic, environmental, and foreign policy goals. This research aims to delve into Indonesia's environmental diplomacy contributions to successfully implementing and promoting its renewable energy policies, anchored on neoliberal principles in addressing climate change.

Abstract

McDonald’s was embroiled in controversy following the decision of its branch in Israel to donate the company’s food products to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which has been accused of committing genocide on the people of Palestine. The company was boycotted by many worldwide, including the people of Indonesia which had always voiced their strong support for Palestine. The situation highlights a possible threat to McDonald’s as the independence of its individual national branches could result in clashing actions and negative public reception. Moreover, McDonald’s must be wary of the malleable governmental statuses and relationships in the countries it operates in, such as Indonesia, in which it originally opened during an extremely authoritarian regime before the country’s shift into a democratic system. However, the tides have been changing once again as recent political events have put Indonesia’s democracy under the threat of regression. With this newfound situation, McDonald’s must be able to find the proper solutions to address its emerging political and security risks.

Abstract

Sekolah Lentera Harapan Curug and Banjar Agung are located within a certain religion-dominated society. Both schools are also situated in societies that are economically, socially, and culturally transforming due to geographic locations; Curug is close to a metropolitan city, and Banjar Agung is near a suburb. Hence, both schools, along with the students must be able to wisely respond to the economic, religious, and ethnic differences that surround them to prevent conflict. To equip the schools and the students, Youth & Peace Project team from IR UPH conducted a peace and conflict resolution workshop for the students in both schools. Aside from giving a 9-modules workshop, the team also established profiling for two crucial aspects: orientation to conflict and natural conflict styles. The pre-test and post-test results for orientation to conflict, as well as the conflict styles, assert the close relations between the knowledge that students obtained during the workshop with their natural conflict styles. Students tended not to solely rely on their natural conflict styles anymore. This confirmed that the intervention, in the form of a workshop, was impactful for students. One of the factors that supported the intervention was the lessons and values students acquired in the schools.
