Abstract

Land and environmental sustainability are two interconnected factors of long-term development. Former sand mining area that has been neglected and disused for many years can have a significant impact on environmental degradation. Sand mining activities previously conducted on this site employing trucks hauling mining goods may have had an impact on soil erosion and topsoil removal. The use of biochar is one promising invention in agriculture and land restoration. The purpose of this article is to investigate the usage of biochar as a substance for enhancing soil quality. Biochar is a carbon product derived from the pyrolysis (low or no oxygen heating) of organic biomass such as wood, straw, or other plant leftovers. Because of its numerous benefits in enhancing soil quality and promoting sustainable agriculture, the use of biochar in agriculture and land restoration has attracted extensive attention. Abstract

The increasing organic waste generation in line with population growth requires sustainable management solutions. Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae are a promising innovation as they can convert organic waste into animal feed and fertilizer with economic value. This study aims to analyze global research trends in bioconversion by considering feed ratio using Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and Bibliometric Analysis (BA) approaches. Data obtained from Scopus for the period 2020-May 2026 May 3, 2026 were analyzed using VOSviewer for 281 publications. The results show a significant increase in the number of publications. The subject area dominated by Agricultural and Biological Sciences. Relevant journals include Animal, Poultry Science and Journal of Insect as Food and Feed. The most productive authors there is Biasato,I., (12 publication with 203 total citation). Meanwhile, Italy is the country with the highest output. The most prominent keywords are Larva. The research focuses on the efficiency of converting waste materials into environmentally friendly protein sources.

Abstract

The increasing population and anthropogenic activities in cities/regencies in Indonesia have caused many waste-related problems, which can trigger environmental and human health. In addition to population growth, rapid economic development has resulted in an increasing amount and type of waste. The coastal area is one area that still needs to get adequate solid waste services. There have been many studies on waste management. However, research has yet to examine the amount and composition of waste generation in coastal areas that have not been served by waste management.. This study shows the waste generation and composition trend in coastal areas that must be served in waste management and determines the appropriate waste management strategy. This research method uses a transect walk survey carried out by following a predetermined route in the area. Paths are made randomly by forming circles or straight lines for 10 km. The composition of illegal waste dumps found included leaves (69.02%), plastic (15.24%), branches and twigs (9.93%), paper and cardboard (3.75%), food waste (1.97%), and rubber (0.1%). At least 1.59 tonnes/day of illegal waste is estimated in Sidorejo Village. While this figure increases at the district level, the amount of unaccommodated waste is estimated at 19.85 tonnes/day. Efforts to handle waste that can be done are changing the mindset and paradigm of the community through an educational approach, improving the waste management system by providing waste facilities and reducing the amount of waste collected through a simple program (Reuses, Reduces, Recycle) that involves the community.

Abstract

Pesisir Betahwalang merupakan kawasan strategis dengan nilai ekologis tinggi sekaligus menjadi pusat pendaratan rajungan. Penetapannya sebagai kawasan konservasi rajungan melalui Keputusan Menteri Kelautan dan Perikanan Republik Indonesia Nomor 38 Tahun 2024 menegaskan pentingnya pemahaman terhadap kondisi kualitas perairan untuk mendukung keberlanjutan ekosistem laut wilayah tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tingkat pencemaran menggunakan Indeks Pencemaran (IP) serta memetakan distribusinya secara spasial. Pengambilan data dilakukan pada bulan Februari 2025 tanggal 9 dan 28 di sembilan titik sampling menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Hasil pengukuran ini merepresentasikan kondisi sesaat sebagai kegiatan monitoring pada periode tersebut. Parameter fisika-kimia yang diuji seperti suhu, salinitas, pH, kecerahan, TSS, DO, BOD, amonia, fosfat, serta minyak dan lemak dianalisis secara in-situ dan laboratorium. Nilai kualitas air hasil pengukuran menunjukkan bahwa perairan pesisir Betahwalang sangat ideal sebagai habitat rajungan. Hasil IP menunjukkan variasi, dengan kondisi ditanggal 9 Februari tergolong “Tercemar Sedang” (IP rerata 5,26) dan ditanggal 28 Februari tergolong “Tercemar Ringan” (IP rerata 3,20). Distribusi spasial mengindikasikan muara sungai sebagai zona dengan tingkat pencemaran tertinggi. Hasil ini menunjukkan adanya dinamika kualitas perairan di kawasan konservasi dan menegaskan perlunya pemantauan berkelanjutan untuk menjaga keseimbangan ekologi dan mendukung pengelolaan perikanan berkelanjutan. Betahwalang Coast is a strategic area with high ecological value and serves as center for blue swimming crab fisheries. Its designation as a Blue Swimming Crab Conservation Area through the Decree of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia Number 38 of 2024 emphasizes the importance of understanding of water quality to support the support marine ecosystem sustainability sustainability. This research aims to analyze pollution level using the Pollution Index (PI) and map their spatial distribution. Water sampling was carried out in February 2025, specifically on the 9th and 28th, at nine selected purposively stations. The measurement results represent the momentary conditions as monitoring activities during that period. Physicochemical parameters measured included temperature, salinity, pH, brightness, TSS, DO, BOD, ammonia, phosphate, and oil and fat, were analyzed in-situ and in the laboratory. The measurement water quality values indicate that the coastal waters of Betahwalang are highly suitable as a habitat for blue swimming crabs. The IP results showed variation, with the condition on February 9th classified as Moderately Polluted (average IP 5,26), while on February 28th it was classified as Lightly Polluted (average IP 3,20). Spatial distribution indicates the river mouth as the zone with the highest pollution level. These results demonstrate dynamic water quality changes in the conservation area and emphasize the need for continuous monitoring to maintain ecological balance and support sustainable fisheries management.

Abstract

Biodrying can convert solid waste into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) as an alternative to fossil fuels. The conversion of solid waste to RDF with a moisture content of 10-30% generally takes 21 days. This study aims to analyze greenhouse gas emissions and biodrying performance by applying hot air aeration to accelerate solid waste conversion into RDF. Laboratory-scale investigation used a bio-drying reactor and a solid waste mixture. Hot air was produced by burning wood charcoal (X1) and mixture of wood charcoal and sawdust (X2). The research showed that hot air aeration systems are more efficient and effective at converting solid waste into RDF. Water content of solid waste reduce from 50% to 34.29% after 60 minutes at 47-80oC. N2O emissions were lower when the hot air source came from burning X1. CO2 emissions were lower when the hot air source came from burning X2. The amount of electrical power required to burn one kg of X1 and X2 is 0.0135 and 0.018 kWh, respectively.
