Abstract

Abstract. As one of the top universities in Indonesia, Intitut Teknologi Bandung is expected to produce graduates who are competent, with qualified skills. As previously mentioned by Satrio Madigondo, a head hunter who had observed the personality trends in ITB graduates for four years, he assumed the ITB graduates he ever met were having a high tendency towards narcissism compared to the other graduates from two other top universities in Indonesia such as Universitas Indonesia and Universitas Gadjah Mada (http://thriea.blogspot.com/2012/01/kata-mereka-tentang-itb.html?m=1). He also added that it is quite striking and disrupting the recruitment process. This research aims to become one of the more explicit studies on narcissism levels among students in Institut Teknologi Bandung and also to analyze whether narcissism reflects their career expectations in the future. There are four aspects of narcisism, Exploitativeness / Entitlement, Leadership / Authority, Superiority / Arrogance, and Self-Absorption / Self-Admiration, as for the indicators of career expectations, they are ease of finding a job, income expectations, and promotion expecations. This research sampled students of business and industrial engineering. Based on the previous research , it is found that narcissistic tendencies such as materialistic values and money importance tend to be enhanced in business students (e.g., Robak et al., 2007; Vansteenskiste, Duriez, Simons, & Soenens, 2006) and the sampling of industrial engineering students seem particularly relevant since business school grew out of the Department of Industrial Engineering. A quantitative approach was applied by spreading online questionnaire to business and industrial engineering students in Institut Teknologi Bandung. Overall, 445 were collected. The datas were assessed using Independent Sample T-Test, One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Two Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Multivariate Analysis Covariance (MANCOVA). The findings revealed that the business students in Institut Teknologi Bandung have significantly higher levels of narcissism compared to industrial engineering students, even after controlling for gender and place of origin. Further narcissism related to higher expectations toward future career. Keywords : business, career, higher education, industrial engineering, narcissism

Abstract

Abstract - PT. Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is currently in the process of renewing the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Management and the Trade Unions. The main issue is the extent to which PT. Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), and more specifically the Collective Bargaining Agreement of PT. Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), has applied ethical principles that have been endorsed internationally. Studying employee protection is important because employees are arguably the most im[portant company’s assets that would drive performance. This final project is aimed to find out how internationally recognized ethical principles in terms of employee protection have been applied at PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) and to propose an improved content of the Collective Bargaining Agreement that incorporates findings from this research to be considered by PT. Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero). This final project reviewed about the employee protection in PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) and UN Global Compact is chosen as the international ethical standard. The result is found that there is significant difference between D1 and D2 units in their perception of employee protection. There is difference of employee perception on employee protection especially for the efforts of handling human rights abuses and knowledge for helping and facilitating to fulfill of human rights abuse reviewed based on units. Two issues that cause significant differences in perception on employee protection in D1 and D2 unit are related to the knowledge (cognitive) and the action (conative) of the company with regard to handling the human rights abuses. It is proposed that the company make articles that discussed about woman employees to protect them from human rights abuses and elimination of forced labour. It is recommended that PT. KAI establish better industrial relations between trade union and management by communicating rights that want to fight for and that PT. KAI invite activists from the  trade union to be held national working meeting (Rapat Kerja Nasional) about labor issues to support the objectives of trade union itself. Keywords: employee protection, human right

Abstract

An organization’s health is an ability to align around and achieve strategic goals and is critical for long-term performance. However, according to McKinsey (2010), many leaders overlook organizational health because they lack a clear way to measure and improve it. Organizational Health Index (OHI) applies analytical rigor to organizational health management. The Organizational Health Index solution measures and tracks the organizational elements that drive performance. It provides a simple but powerful road map for leaders and managers to improve organizational health (Mckinsey, 2010). As a State-Owned Enterprise, Waskita has never conducted organizational health assessment. The author gained this information by conducting a pre-research interview with the secretary of Human Capital Management division in Waskita. The health of the organization within the company is very influential in the work performance of the company itself. If we associate with the Waskita case and the development of the Indonesia infrastructure that is being launched, then OHI will be very useful for Waskita. Moreover, Waskita is one of leading state companies in Indonesia which plays a major role in the development of the country. Then, OHI is important in order for Waskita to monitor and maintain performance to expedite the country’s infrastructure development process. The researcher will use the type of research in the form of quantitative, because quantitative business research can be defined as business research that addresses the purpose of research through empirical assessments involving measurement and numerical analysis approaches. When looking at the mean score of each practice without being grouped into archaetype, the practice of open and trusting contributes greatly to the formation of Organizational Health Index in Waskita. This is followed by employees’ priorities for the capability and impact of motivation on the work environment. On the contrary, we can see that the leadership aspect in Waskita contributes little to the formation of Organizational Health Index in Waskita. From the point of view archaetype grouping Organizarional Health Index in Waskita can be developed on the knowledge core aspect. This is because Waskita has not prioritized knowledge core practice to the fullest. If we look at each practice without groping archaetype, the leadership aspect can be developed to contribute more to the formation of Organizational Health Index in Waskita. Furthermore, the author recommends that Waskita should focus on pursuing leadership driven and market focus archaetypes in order to fulfil its vision and mission.Key words: Organizational Health Index, State-Owned Enterprise
