Abstract

As the world’s largest producer and exporter of crude palm oil (CPO), Indonesia has experienced a decline in exports to the European Union since 2016 due to the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) policy and Malaysia’s growing competitiveness. This study aims to analyze the influence of competitor countries’ competitiveness and other determinants on Indonesia’s palm oil export volume to five EU countries (the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Greece). The analysis uses panel data covering the period 2001–2023 with the fixed effect regression method. The findings show that the GDP of destination countries, population, Malaysia’s palm oil competitiveness and productivity, as well as the RED policy, significantly affect export volume. In contrast, the real exchange rate, world palm oil prices, world peanut oil prices, and Indonesia’s palm oil productivity have no significant effect. These results highlight the dominant role of external factors in influencing Indonesia’s CPO exports. The implication is that national strategies should focus on enhancing competitiveness, modernizing agriculture, and strengthening trade diplomacy that adapts to international environmental regulations to ensure long-term export sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the distribution of Zakat, Infak, and Sadaqah (ZIS) funds, economic growth, unemployment rate, and Regional Original Revenue (PAD) on the poverty rate in West Sumatra Province during the period 2020–2024. The data used are secondary data obtained from BAZNAS, BPS, and the Directorate General of Fiscal Balance (DJPK), covering 12 regencies/cities in West Sumatra Province. This study employs panel data regression analysis using EViews 12 software to examine the relationships among the variables. The results indicate that, partially, the distribution of ZIS funds and PAD have no significant effect on the poverty rate. In contrast, economic growth and unemployment rate have a negative and significant effect on the poverty rate. Simultaneously, all four independent variables are found to have a significant influence on the poverty rate. The coefficient of determination (Adjusted R²) is 0.123, indicating that 12.30% of the variation in the poverty rate can be explained by the variables in the study, while the remaining 87.7% is influenced by factors outside the model. The study provides policy implications suggesting that optimizing ZIS management, promoting inclusive economic growth, expanding employment opportunities to reduce unemployment, and utilizing PAD more effectively are crucial strategies for local governments and relevant institutions to effectively reduce the poverty rate in West Sumatra.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors influencing Indonesia’s crude oil export performance to Singapore by employing the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach. The dataset covers the period 1995–2024 and is compiled from international and national sources, including the United Nations Comtrade, World Bank, International Energy Agency (IEA), and Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). The variables examined include world oil prices, Singapore’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), oil refinery throughput, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), domestic oil production, and a global crisis dummy. The estimation results indicate that in the long run, world oil prices, Singapore’s GDP, and domestic oil production have positive and significant impacts on Indonesia’s crude oil exports, whereas refinery throughput in Singapore and global crises exhibit significant negative effects. Meanwhile, FDI shows no significant impact in the short run, although it has the potential to enhance export capacity over longer horizons. The short-run dynamics also reveal that nearly 60 percent of disequilibrium is corrected annually, confirming a strong error correction mechanism. This study contributes by highlighting the interplay between domestic capacity and external shocks, offering policy insights for strengthening Indonesia’s energy export resilience.

Abstract

Rubber downstreaming has become one of the key strategies to support Indonesia’s economic growth. However, the contribution of processed rubber exports remains relatively low compared to the country’s production capacity. This study aims to analyze the determinants of Indonesia’s processed rubber exports to seven main destination countries during the period 2001–2023. A quantitative approach with panel data analysis using the gravity model was employed. The independent variables examined include the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of importing countries, economic distance, exchange rate, import tariffs, and labor productivity in the rubber sector, while the dependent variable is the export value of processed rubber products. The results show that the GDP of importing countries and labor productivity have a positive and significant effect on exports, while economic distance has a negative and significant effect. The real exchange rate exhibits a negative but insignificant effect, whereas import tariffs unexpectedly show a positive and significant effect on Indonesia’s processed rubber exports. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.6624 indicates that 66.24% of the variation in exports can be explained by the variables included in the model. These findings highlight the importance of enhancing productivity, diversifying products, and optimizing trade policies to strengthen the global competitiveness of Indonesia’s processed rubber industry.
