Abstract

1-Hexene is a raw material in plastic production and classified as a linear alpha olefin compound. This compound is used as a co-monomer in the production of polyethylene, manufacture of lubricants, manufacture of surfactants and alcohol. The use of 1-hexene in the production of High-density polyethylene (HDPE) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) is one of the co-monomers. The need for 1-hexana in Indonesia is increasing over time, but in Indonesia there is no factory that produces 1-hexene. Therefore, the need for 1hexene has increased significantly in 2018. The increasing need for imports will reduce the source of foreign exchange for the country. So that the establishment of the 1-hexene plant can reduce the need for imports and can increase the country's foreign exchange. The location of the 1-hexana factory is planned to be in the RU II Dumai industrial area with a factory capacity of 100,000 tons / year. The main design is an oligomerization reactor (R101) which functions to react ethylene by trimerizing to 1-hexene with a 1-octene as a byproduct. The type of reactor used is a stirred tank flow reactor. The operating conditions in the reactor were 423.15 K and 30 bar. Plant economic analysis is carried out to determine the feasibility of the factory to be built. Based on the results of the economic feasibility analysis of the factory, the 1-hexana plant is feasible to build with a PBB of 2 years, an IRR of 22.7433%, an ROI of 39.388%, and a BEP of 54%.  Keywords: 1-Hexene,  Alphahexol, Analysis economic feasibility of plant, Ethylene.

Abstract

One of the raw materials for propellant or explosive double base type is nitrocellulose. Availability of cellulose which is the main component of biomass is very abundant in Indonesia, particularly solid waste palm oil industry. With cellulose content of 34.89%, palm midrib is one solid waste palm with potential to be used as the main raw material cellulose. Purity cellulose levels that must be achieved to produce nitrocellulose propellant as raw material is more than 92%. So as to improve the purity of the cellulose in the palm midrib must be purified using hydrogen peroxide, which is initiated by the hydrolysis with EFB ash extract. Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical that can be used for the bleaching process, because this compound is more environmentally friendly than chlorine. The purpose of this is to obtain the best conditions to obtain cellulose purity of more than 92%. The bleaching process is done by varying the concentration of hydrogen peroxide (1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%) and pH (8, 9, 10, 11, 12). Pulp composition analysis of purified cellulose. Obtained the best process conditions is the concentration of 3% hydrogen peroxide and pH 9 with 95.11% purity cellulose.  Keywords :  Palm Midrib, Bleaching, Hydrogen Peroxide, Cellulose

Abstract

This article aims to describe a new paradigm of sustainable community service. The background is the phenomenon is that there is no mutualism symbiosis of various parties and the key actors of empowerment in fulfilling the needs, challenges, and implementation of the community, either directly or indirectly. The method used in this article is literature studies and from various experiences of the author in doing community service. To run and understand the new paradigm of community service, there are at least three models that can be used, namely triple helix, quadruple helix, and quintuple helix. The dynamics of community empowerment require innovations that support sustainable development. The quintuple helix model is relevant for viewing current and future conditions.

Abstract

Abstract A cooperation between higher education institution, industry and local government is important to overcome problems in rural poor areas through empowerment and financial support for various programmes to increase competencies and welfare of poor farmers. In this paper, an example of the cooperation is a development of Kawasan Ekonomi Masyarakat (KEM) Kelurahan Batu Bersurat and Kampung Bantalan Propinsi Riau in 2014-2016 through Corporate Social Responsibility and Small Medium Enterpreneur and Partnership Program (CSR & SMEPP) PT Pertamina with Forum Layanan Iptek untuk Masyarakat (FLipMAS) Batobo Wilayah Riau-Kepulauan Riau and local governments. The empowerment program that has been carried out was a development of marginal lands at both KEM for agriculture, freshwater fishery and animal husbandry, such as chili cultivation, patin fish cultivation and Balinese cow husbandry. A mentoring strategy by FLipMAS BATOBO at both KEM generally comprises principles of empowering society, group, networking, and sustainability. The results of effective mentoring showed an increase of the farmer’s income to more than 80% from the initial condition, and a change of farmers character that is willing to help poor people and orphans in their areas. This could indicate an achievement of the cooperation between the institution, industry and government in empowering society in rural poor areas. Abstract

The abundance of palm frond waste in Indonesia makes it an ideal source as co-firing material to increase renewable energy consumption. Therefore, it is necessary to determine whether oil palm fronds in the form of fluff, pellets, and brickets can be used as co-firing fuel. This study also aims to see whether there are differences in the potential of hard and soft palm fronds as solid fuel for power plants, as well as to calculate its slagging and fouling risk. Palm fronds was dried and reduced in sized using a wood chipper then sifted with a 20 mesh sieve to obtain palm frond fluff, then the fluff was mixed with 22% tapioca adhesive (weight ratio of 20% of the biomass) to be molded into pellet. Meanwhile, wood brickets was prepared by pyrolyzing the hard fronds (T= 550oC, t= 5 min) and mixing the charcoal obtained with 22% tapioca adhesive (weight ratio of 30% of the biomass). From the results of the analysis carried out, it is known that palm frond bricket provides the best results with an NCV value of 7095 cal/g. On the other side, both hard frond fluff and soft frond fluff contains the same sulfur content (0.06%), thus the difference in using hard or soft fronds as co-firing fuel does not have much effect. Furthermore, based on the analysis of potential slagging and fouling, all types of oil palm frond samples studied are shown to have a low to medium risk level.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries that has various types of mushrooms, both those that are edible and those that are not. One type of edible mushroom is the oyster mushroom. In its growth, oyster mushrooms are greatly influenced by the temperature and humidity in the mushroom house. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of temperature and humidity on mushroom productivity and to identify the optimal temperature and humidity for mushroom growth. The research method involved measuring temperature and humidity in the morning, afternoon, evening, and night every day for 2 months, namely June and July 2024. The temperature and humidity data collected were the daily averages. After obtaining the average daily temperature and humidity data, the next step was to observe the shape and color of the oyster mushrooms and collect data on the number of mushrooms obtained each day for 2 months. From the data analysis, it was found that the oyster mushrooms hardened and turned yellow when the temperature and humidity were unstable for mushroom growth. The optimal average temperature and humidity were 27°C and 82%, with the number of mushrooms obtained being 55kg/day.

Abstract

Duri steam flood is the largest hot steam injection project in Indonesia, facing challenges in preventing production declines. Objective project is showed decrease in production due to crustal deposition (scale). The Stiff and Davis method shows a Stability Index of 1.43, with a tendency for scale formation, especially CaCO3, in accordance with the Ryznar method. Increasing the production of x, yz layer wells in the Duri field, designing acidification stimulation with a pumping pressure of 400 psi, an injection rate of 2 bbl/minute and an acid volume of 600 gallons, after that comparing the performance of hydrochloric acid and carboxylic acid. Analysis showed that hydrochloric stimulation resulted in a significant increase in production of 115 BFPD / 8 BOPD (42% increase), while carboxylate stimulation showed a slower increase of 40 BFPD / 3 BOPD (24% increase). An economic evaluation shows chloride acidification produces an annual NPV gain of $48,002, compared to carboxylate acidification with an annual NPV gain of $22,554. Thus, chloride acidification proved to be economically profitable for the x, yz layers in the Duri field. This study highlights optimal acid stimulation strategies to mitigate scale-related production challenges in steam flood projects.
