Abstract

This research explores Fama and French's Three Factor Model (1992), which identified key determinants of corporate returns. Using factors such as rate of return of risky investment, company size, and a comparison between book and market value, the research tested the model in the Indonesian context, using companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in the year 2021. The investigation focuses specifically on state-owned enterprises (SOE) which have a strategic role in economic recovery. Employing a panel data regression analysis, the study utilizes daily closing stock prices from six portfolios, each comprising stocks from 31 state-owned enterprises. The empirical findings indicate that, individually and collectively, all three factors—market risk premium, firm size, and book-to-market ratio—exert a statistically significant positive influence on the excess returns of state-owned company stocks in the year 2021

Abstract

This study examines how return-to-work practices are implemented for workers with acquired disabilities following work-related accidents in a remote plantation setting in Indonesia. It explores how return-to-work responsibility is enacted at the workplace level and whether existing practices align with the principles of responsible return to work in labor-intensive, geographically isolated settings. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research draws on in-depth interviews with injured workers and organizational actors, supported by workplace observations. Data were analyzed thematically using the responsible return to work framework, which encompasses legal, economic, moral, and discretionary dimensions. The findings show that return-to-work is primarily implemented as employment retention rather than meaningful reintegration. Legal and economic responsibilities emphasize procedural compliance and income continuity, while moral responsibility is framed through organizational care that often takes a paternalistic form. Discretionary responsibility is largely exercised by supervisors, leading to uneven outcomes shaped by managerial judgment and operational constraints. The study positions return-to-work as an organizational and industrial relations process influenced by power dynamics and contextual limitations, demonstrating how fragmented responsibility constrains dignity, participation, and sustainable work trajectories.

Abstract

Institutional theory highlights that organizational success relies not only onresource availability but also on acceptance within its environment.Institutional isomorphism refers to the tendency of organizations within thesame industry to adopt similar structures and strategies due to sharedenvironmental pressures. In the context of micro and small enterprises(MSEs), digitalization has become a pivotal factor influencing businessprocesses. Female MSEs exhibit diverse responses to digitalization, driven bythe COVID-19 pandemic and market demands to enter digital commerce. Thisstudy investigates the strategies female MSEs employ to adapt to digitaltechnology. Using a qualitative approach, in-depth interviews were conductedin September 2022 with female MSEs in Depok. The findings reveal thatnormative and mimetic isomorphism are dominant strategies, while coerciveisomorphism is absent. Challenges in adopting digitalization stem from bothpersonal and external factors. Despite these obstacles, female MSEs recognizethe significance of digitalization for business sustainability. To addressadaptation issues, many rely on support from family and communitynetworks, facilitating the integration of digital tools into their operations. Thiscollaborative approach underscores the importance of social support inovercoming barriers to digital transformation within MSEs.

Abstract

Firms in Zimbabwe’s automotive parts retail sector operate in a dynamic market and volatile economy that threaten business competitiveness and hinder firm growth. This study aimed to investigate how entrepreneurial orientation influences firm performance among automotive parts retail firms within the broader Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Harare, Zimbabwe, while considering the roles of innovation capability and market turbulence. Grounded in the Resource-Based View, Dynamic Capabilities Theory, and Contingency Theory, the study employed a quantitative cross-sectional design, with data collected using an online structured and self-administered questionnaire from 204  owners and managers who had at least three years of experience in business. Data were obtained through a purposive sampling technique and analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The results indicated that entrepreneurial orientation had a positive and significant effect on firm performance and innovation capability. The relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and firm performance is partially mediated by innovation capability and negatively moderated by market turbulence. The study extends entrepreneurship literature in an under-researched context in Sub-Saharan Africa and provides insight for managers and policymakers seeking to enhance business performance. The cross-sectional design and single-sector focus may limit causal inference and generalizability.

Abstract

Background: The automotive finance industry in Indonesia faces the challenge of high employee turnover, which negatively affects workforce stability and the achievement of organizational objectives. This situation highlights the need to implement human resource management strategies that enhance employee retention. Objective: This study aims to examine how work-life balance and employer branding influence employee retention in an automotive finance company in Pekanbaru. Organizational commitment is examined as a mediating variable. Methods: A quantitative research design was employed, involving 167 employees who completed questionnaires. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). Results: The results indicate that work-life balance and employer branding have positive and significant effects on employee retention and organizational commitment. Furthermore, organizational commitment was found to mediate the relationship between work-life balance and employer branding with employee retention. These findings suggest that a supportive work-life balance and a strong corporate image can strengthen organizational commitment and encourage employees to remain with the company. Conclusion: To sustainably improve employee retention, this study highlights the importance for organizations to strengthen work-life balance initiatives and employer branding strategies.
