Abstract

Nowadays, the rest of the world concentrates on increasing global economies through the development of technology and productivity growth. This intent creates uneven economic opportunities, inequality, and social disparity between developed, developing, and undeveloped countries. On the other hand, the discrepancy between them contributes to increasing the migration flow, particularly in ASEAN. Moreover, the population movement between Indonesia-Malaysia majority is a low-skilled migrant and brings several problems for both countries. Thus, the scheme of social protection for a migrant becomes a crucial matter to implement. Hence, this paper aims to acknowledge the migration flow and assess Indonesia and Malaysia's social protection schemes. The result shows that distance is an essential variable of Indonesia's worker migrant than Malaysia's wage rate. Hence, the discourse for stopping worker migrants, particularly domestic workers, is not a great solution. Notably, the government should create a proper MoU with Malaysia to protect worker migrants, particularly domestic workers.

Abstract

Two-sectors model from Lewis Theory describes the movement of labor who move from agricultural sector to the industrial sector with the assumption that they are moving because the pull of wages. The theory does not consider that the wage problem in the industry sector create movement to the informal sector. This research has two purposes, first, to know the implementation of the industrial sector labor with five variables (GDP growth in the agricultural and industrial sectors, the regional minimum wage rates, labor force and total labor agriculture). Second, the implementation of the small and medium enterprises (SME) labor with five variables (GDP growth in the agricultural and industrial sectors, labor force, agriculture sector labor and industrial sector labor). This research is using quantitative methods with panel regression. Results from this study indicate that the transformation of agricultural labor to industries in East Java, especially the links between agricultural growth and wages on employment in the industrial sector has not been proven. The Lewis theoretical proven is the growth of the industrial sector and the number of workers to the industrial sector employment. There is no correlation between the output agricultural sector and industrial sector of the SME sector. SME sector only be a last resort, after all the labors are rejected from the formal sector. Keywords:Lewis Theory, Agriculture Sector, Industry Sector, SME Sector, Labor and Minimum Wage

Abstract

This study explores the economic, educational, and infrastructural challenges in Srigonco Village, Bantur District, Malang Regency, Indonesia. The village's dependence on agriculture makes it economically vulnerable, while limited educational opportunities and inadequate infrastructure further hinder development. The study emphasises the critical role of financial literacy in empowering residents to make informed financial decisions and better utilise financial services. By implementing Training of Trainers (ToT) programs, the village can enhance financial management skills and promote economic resilience. Improved financial literacy is expected to lead to increased asset ownership, participation in productive activities, and long-term economic stability, ultimately improving the quality of life for the community.

Abstract

This study investigates the perceptions of younger workers towards older workers in Srigonco Village, Malang Regency, Indonesia, amid a demographic shift characterised by a growing aging population. The research examines factors influencing older workers' re-entry into the labour market and the retirement preparedness of younger workers. Findings indicate a dual perception: while many younger workers value older employees for their experience and agricultural knowledge, they simultaneously express concerns about older workers' adaptability to new technologies and physical limitations. Specifically, 62.5% of respondents recognise that financial necessity drives many older workers to remain in the workforce, highlighting significant economic challenges. Moreover, 53.13% agree that older workers face discrimination and biases, which can hinder their employment opportunities. This research underscores the urgent need for inclusive labour market policies that accommodate the unique challenges faced by older workers while fostering collaboration between generations. Despite limitations in sample diversity and potential biases in self-reported data, the study emphasises the importance of intergenerational knowledge transfer for economic sustainability. Future research should adopt longitudinal and qualitative methods to gain deeper insights into the evolving dynamics between older and younger workers, focusing on effective policy interventions to improve employment outcomes for all age groups.

Abstract

Pancasila as the basis of the state and the ideology of the Indonesian nation plays a central role in maintaining national integration and social diversity. However, in today's digital and globalization era, Pancasila values face serious challenges, especially among the younger generation. The massive flow of information, the development of transnational ideologies, and the dominance of individualistic culture have led to a disorientation of values, so that the relevance of Pancasila as a guideline for life has begun to be questioned. This study aims to analyze the strategic repositioning of the Pancasila Laboratory (Lapasila) of the State University of Malang in responding to the challenges of ideological and social disruption, as well as exploring its potential as a center of excellence in science and technology in the field of Pancasila, multiculturalism, and local wisdom. Using a qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews with internal stakeholders, this study found that Lapasila has significant historical strength, academic legitimacy, and digital potential. However, internal weaknesses such as weak institutional management, low research productivity, and lack of digital strategies are the main obstacles. Meanwhile, external opportunities such as national policy support, public needs for ideological references, and digital media space can be used to the fullest. This study recommends the repositioning of Lapasila through digital transformation, interdisciplinary approaches, strengthening collaborative networks, and innovation-based institutional reform. Thus, Lapasila can play a strategic role in the actualization of Pancasila values in a contextual and sustainable manner in the midst of the dynamics of a multicultural society.
