Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the development of a valid, practical and effective Problem Posing Modelas a learning tool. This research and development study (R&D) with 4-D have some phases, namely: define, design, develop, and desiminate. The data collection technique used test (description/essay) and non-test (tool validation and questionnaire). The data were analyzed through validity analysis, practicality analysis, and effectiveness analysis. The instruments used in this study were questionnaires, validation sheets, Lesson Plan, student’s worksheets, and test. The study showed that lesson plan is stated to be very valid with an average score of 90.15 in the k > 80 category andstudent’s worksheets is declared very valid with an average score of 84.58 in the k > 80 category. The students and teachers’ response are stated to be very practical with the average score of 80.55 in the k > 80 category. Besides, the effectiveness is declared effective seen from the students’ learning outcomes with 72% in the 60 ≤ p < 80 category. Thus, it can be concluded that the learning tool developed, Problem Posing Model is declared valid, practical and effective so that it can be used in learning mathematics.

Abstract

The study conducted quantitative research using a True Experimental Design approach known as Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design, involving all grade X students of Senior High School. Cluster Random Sampling was used to select the experimental and control classes. Normality and variant homogeneity tests were conducted. Data analysis utilized a 5% significance level and paired sample t-test for hypothesis testing. Results indicated the REACT strategy effectively improved students' higher-order thinking skills. In the control class, a significant difference was found between pre-test and post-test scores, as well as in the experimental class. Observation sheet assessments showed an average score of 87.5, confirming successful application of the REACT strategy in the learning process. Therefore, the analysis demonstrates the superiority of the REACT strategy over conventional methods in enhancing the higher-order thinking skills of grade X students at Senior High School.

Abstract

This research aims to identify students' statistical literacy abilities, and this type of research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this research consisted of 24 Sociology Education students from Muhammadiyah University of Kupang taking statistics courses in the 2023/2024 academic year. The instrument used is an assignment consisting of 2 questions. Data analysis was done by analyzing students' answer documents to complete the assignments given. Students' statistical literacy abilities are identified using five statistical literacy competencies: understanding statistical concepts, insight into the application of statistical concepts, calculation and graphing skills, interpretation abilities, and visualization and communication skills. The research results show that more than 50% of students can fulfill statistical literacy competencies such as understanding statistical concepts, numeracy, interpretation, and communication skills. However, less than 50% of students do not meet competency in insight into the application of statistical concepts and visualization skills. Students' abilities in essential statistical literacy competencies still need to be improved because most students still have limitations in these competencies.

Abstract

Abstract

Mathematical reasoning is one of the fundamental things in solving mathematical problems. This study was conducted aimed at describing the mathematical reasoning of students of the Mathematics Education study program in solving numeracy problems at the level of understanding, level of application, and level of reasoning. Numeracy questions were given to the research subjects and then interviews were conducted with 6 subjects. The data analysis techniques used follow the technical stages of data analysis including data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the activity at the formulating stage included the identification of significant variables and formulating mathematical situations using symbols. At the stage of working on the activity of the subject is to perform calculations and draw simple conclusions. Meanwhile, at the stage of interpreting and evaluating, the subject's activity is to evaluate mathematical results and interpret mathematical results into the context of the problem. At the level of application, Activities at the formulating stage include the identification of significant variables, making appropriate assumptions, translating problems into mathematical representations and recognizing aspects in the corresponding problem. The activity of the subject at the stage of work includes performing simple calculations, applying strategies for solving problems, and cultivating geometric representations. The activity of the subject at the stage of interpreting and evaluating includes the evaluation of mathematical results and interpreting the results into the context of the problem. At the level of reasoning activity at the formulating stage is to identify significant variables, understand and explain the relationship between the language of the context and the language of symbols, as well as represent the situation into the model. Activities at the stage of work include processing the information presented on the drawings to solve problems, performing calculations, drawing simple conclusions, and making generalizations.
