Abstract

Test-Based National Selection demands students' readiness not only in material mastery, but also in critical thinking skills and high-level problem solving. Tutoring institutions have become a popular choice to improve students' readiness to face the selection, but evaluating students' readiness objectively and adaptively is still a challenge. This research develops a decision support system model based on Mamdani type fuzzy inference system to evaluate students' readiness for Test-Based National Selection. Two main indicators are used as linguistic input variables, namely study frequency and try out results. The modeling process is carried out qualitatively with the stages of fuzzification, IF-THEN rule base formulation, Mamdani inference, and defuzzification using the centroid method. Data is processed with the help of Microsoft Excel as a fuzzy logic processing tool. The results of the implementation on 30 students showed that the system was able to classify the level of readiness into three categories: not ready, moderately ready, and ready, with high precision and flexibility to data uncertainty. The findings suggest that fuzzy models can be used as adaptive and contextualized evaluation tools in tutoring environments, and support data-driven instructional decision-making.

Abstract

The student selection process through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway continues to face challenges related to objectivity and transparency, particularly in integrating qualitative and quantitative data from various assessment instruments such as interviews and problem-solving tests. This study aims to develop a decision support system based on the Mamdani-type fuzzy logic to support a fair and standardized RPL student selection process. A quantitative approach was employed through intelligent system modeling, with system implementation carried out using Microsoft Excel by modifying IF-THEN formulas to simulate fuzzy logic principles. The system incorporates two input variables interview scores and problem-solving test scores and one output variable representing admission eligibility, categorized into five levels (A-E). Testing on a sample of ten prospective students showed that the system was able to perform systematic evaluations and generate more objective and consistent admission decisions. The conclusion of this study is that the application of a fuzzy inference system can improve the quality of decision making in the selection of RPL students, as well as support the principles of competency based and fair assessment.

Abstract

Mathematical literacy is a key competency of the 21st century, but student achievement in Indonesia is still low. The research aims to describe the constructivism approach in fostering students' mathematical literacy. The research method is qualitative with the type of literature study through the review of reputable articles indexed by Science and Technology Index and Scopus and relevant scientific books. The results showed that students experienced obstacles in solving mathematical literacy problems, including difficulties in interpreting problems, modeling contextual problems, drawing conclusions according to context, and understanding relationships between concepts. The constructivism approach based on Piaget and Vygotsky's theories can overcome obstacles through active learning, where students build knowledge through interaction with the environment and social experiences. To foster mathematical literacy through constructivism approach, teachers need to apply three main principles, namely authentic principle, scaffolding principle, and reflective principle. The three principles form a complementary pedagogical framework for building deep conceptual understanding and mathematical problem-solving skills.

Abstract

Contextual problems play an important role as a medium for students to apply mathematical concepts. However, many students still have difficulty in understanding and interpreting the problem. Therefore, this study aims to describe the perceived of students' logical mathematical intelligence in solving contextual problems based on the mathematical literacy process. This study is a descriptive qualitative study. The research was conducted at Batu City Junior High School with 31 respondents. There were three research subjects representing the level of perceived of logical mathematical intelligence. The research instruments consisted of a questionnaire on the perceived of logical mathematical intelligence, a logical mathematical intelligence test, and an interview guideline. The data obtained were analyzed using the triangulation method. The results of the study showed that students' mathematical literacy with high perceived of logical mathematical intelligence met the employ, interpret and some formulate indicators. Then the mathematical literacy of students with moderate perceived of logical mathematical intelligence met the formulate, employ and some interpret indicators. In addition, the mathematical literacy of students with low perceived of logical mathematical intelligence only met some of the formulate and employ indicators. The findings of this study contribute to providing information and reflection materials for teachers in planning learning as an effort to improve mathematical literacy based on the perceived of students' logical mathematical intelligence.
