Abstract

EnglishGold mining have positive contribution to the regional economic growth, but cause negative impacts to farmers in the mining ring area. The purpose of this study is to evaluate financial feasibility of farming and to identify the best farming practices within a gold mining ring area in Bombana District of Southeast Sulawesi Province. Data were collected through personal interviews with farmers and focused group discussion using the word cafe format. The respondents consist of purposively selected 90 farmers and 37 resource persons representing stakeholders. Financial feasibility was analyzed using the B/C ratio and the farming best practices were selected using the Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) analysis through the Preference Ranking Organization for Enrichment Evaluation (PROMETHEE). The study shows that there are three types of land in the mining ring area, namely, land that is not mined, land that has not been mined, and land that has been mined. All crops cultivated by farmers are financially feasible. The PROMETHEE analysis shows that the non-mined land should be developed for plantation crops, the land that has not been mined is best for food crop farmings; and the mined land is best utilized for forestry crops.

Abstract

Land suitability analysis becomes important as a source of information about the distribution of land that can be developed for Paddy Rice. The objective of the study was to analyze the level and distribution of land suitability of paddy fields in South Konawe District. This research was conducted in the Sub Districts of Laeya, Palangga, Baito and Lalembuu for 3 months namely October-December 2017. The research method used was a survey method and laboratory analysis of soil samples and data analysis of soil and climate characteristics. Data analysis includes determining the type and intensity of limiting factors, suitability classes and technological recommendations for limiting the development of paddy fields. The results showed that the area of prospective locations in Laeya Sub District was 259 hectares, Palangga Sub District covering 312 hectares, Baito Sub District covering 1,021 hectares and Lalembuu Sub District covering 159 hectares. Types of limiting factors the development of paddy field were low cation exhange capacity (CEC) low N and P levels, acidic pH and moderate drainage. The land suitability class for all locations analyzed was S2 with a category suitable enough for the use of Paddy Rice. The limiting factor improvement technology recommendations were the addition of organic matter, liming, N fertilization, P fertilization and drainage channel construction. The adoption of these recommendations will increase the carrying capacity of land for the growth and production of paddy fields. Keywords:cation exchange capacity, land suitability, land quality,, limiting factors, paddy fields

Abstract

Since Law Number 6 of 2014 concerning villages, the Indonesian government has disbursed substantial funds directly to villages. One of the objectives of allocating these funds is to establish a village-owned enterprise (Bumdes). This study aims to evaluate these institutions. To assess the performance of the Bumdes, criteria, indicators, and verifiers were used following the regulations of the Minister for underdeveloped regions and transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia, Number 4 of 2015. Research carried out in 2019. Eighteen Bumdes were selected in 18 sub-districts as samples from the 113 Bumdes formed in the Konawe district. This study aims to see to what extent the existence of Bumdes has been able to contribute to improving the village economy. Respondents in this study were Bumdes stakeholders, starting from the district level (head of the Village Community Development Agency, Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency, and Head of Development), head of sub-districts, village heads, Bumdes Managements, and Community Leaders. The results showed that most of the Bumdes had not been able to properly compile business plans due to their administrators’ low human resource capacity. As a result, Bumdes capital is not developed and depends on only the allocation of village funds. The existence of Bumdes has not provided a real contribution to the increase in economic activity and village development as envisaged
