Abstract

The purpose of this study is to present a review of the book Good leaders ask great questions: foundations for successful leadership by John C. Maxwell. Descriptive qualitative method used in this study, the source of the material obtained by analyzing the contents of the book. The results of this review speak volumes about a practical guide for leaders looking to improve their leadership skills. Full of questions that can stimulate the people around them to think, innovate, and grow.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the racial discrimination found in the first and second novels, to describe the similarities and differences of racial discrimination found in both novels and the application of character education values without racial discrimination. The type of research used is qualitative research using a comparative descriptive method. The data in this study are sentences that contain forms of discrimination. Sentences that contain racial discrimination are obtained through the utterances or utterances of the narrator, the utterances or utterances of the characters, and the actions of the characters in both novels. Data collection techniques using reading and note techniques. The data validation technique uses triangulation techniques. Data analysis techniques using descriptive techniques. The results of the study show that both novels have similarities and differences, there are three kinds of discrimination, namely ethnocentrism discrimination (attitudes comparing cultures), xenophobic discrimination (hate and dislike), stereotype discrimination (generalizing attitudes towards a group). The similarities between these two novels are the setting in which racial discrimination occurred during the colonial era and the victims of racial discrimination, namely the natives themselves. The difference between the two novels is the setting where racial discrimination occurs. The setting in the first novel is Indonesia, while the setting in the second novel is Congo, Africa. Based on the results of data analysis and discussion found 26 data.

Abstract

This study focuses on the social stratification system of Javanese society using Koentjaraningrat's theory which states that Javanese society is divided into four groups, namely dharai (nobles), priyayi (bureaucrats), wong dagang (traders) and wong cilik (little people, small people). This study aims to describe: (1) the forms of social stratification in Kuntowijoyo's novel Pasar, (2) the factors causing social stratification in Kuntowijoyo's novel Pasar, and (3) the impact of social stratification in Kuntowijoyo's novel Pasar. This type of research is a qualitative research using descriptive methods with content analysis techniques. The data in this study are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences that indicate social stratification in Kuntowijoyo's novel Pasar. The data collection technique is reading and understanding the novel, marking data related to research problems to gain a deeper understanding of the problem, and take inventory (search) data. Validation of the data in this study using triangulation techniques. or merchants (traders), and wong cilik (ordinary people). The factors that cause social stratification in Kuntowijoyo's novel Pasar are wealth, power, honor, and knowledge. The impact is social conflict and competition.

Abstract

Women become one of the phenomena that often exist in the novel. Women are depicted as weak parties so that they are often used as an excuse for men to exploit their beauty. Over time the existence of women is increasingly visible in terms of fighting for rights and equalizing their position with men. This study aims to explain the forms and strategies in the existence of women in the novel Rembang Jingga by Tj Oetoro and Dwiyana Premadi. This study uses a type of literary research with a descriptive method. The data collection technique used was reading the novel as a whole, marking the parts indicated on the existence of women and taking an inventory of the data. The data analysis technique is to describe the data, classify and interpret the data. The research findings include 1) the forms of women's existence in the novel Rembang Jingga there are two kinds, namely first, there are for themselves in the form of unyielding, strong women and the will to fight, second, there are for others. 2) There are four strategies for the existence of women in the Rembang Jingga novel, namely working women, intellectual women, social transformation women, and independent women

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) describe the portrait of urban women in the Divortiare about the prestige of recreation, (2) describe the portrait of urban women in the Divortiare about the culture of instant living, (3) describe the portrait of urban women in the Divortiare about the mobility lifestyle, (4) describe the portrait of urban women in Divortiare about the individualist lifestyle. The object of this research is the novel Divortiare by Ika Natassa which was published in 2008. This research is literary research using descriptive methods. The data of this research are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences that show the prestige of recreation, instant living culture, mobility lifestyle, and individualist lifestyle in Ika Natassa's Divortiare. The research instrument is the author himself with the help of another instrument in the form of a recording sheet. Data collection techniques are reading and understanding novels, conducting library research, determining the main character, and finding and recording data related to research problems contained in the novel. The Data validation technique is using triangulation technique. The data analysis technique is identifying and classifying the data. Then interpret the data, and conclude the data analysis. The results of the study stated that (1) the recreational prestige of urban female characters in Ika Natassa's novel Divortiare can be seen through education, work, shopping, restaurants visited, and places of entertainment visited, (2) the instant lifestyle of urban women depicted in the novel Divortiare by Ika Natassa. Ika Natassa can be seen from people in their daily lives such as eating at fast food restaurants and online shopping, (3) the mobility lifestyle of urban women in Ika Natassa's Divortiare novel is seen from people who move around due to work demands, (4) portrait style The individualist life of an urban woman in the novel Divortiare by Ika Natassa is someone who does everything independently and chooses to live alone without the help of others.

Abstract

This study aims to classify: (1) the forms of social conflict in Pinto Anugrah's novel Everything is Smoked by the Sky, (2) the causes of social conflict in Pinto Anugrah's novel Everything is Smoked by the Sky, (3) the impact of social conflict in the novel Everything The Sky Suckes by Pinto Anugrah. The object of this research is the novel Everything Sucked by the Sky by Pinto Anugrah which will be published in 2021. This research uses a descriptive method. In collecting the data used in this study in the form of words, phrases, clauses and sentences that show the forms, causes, and impacts of social conflict in Pinto Anugrah's novel 'Everything That Is Smoked by the Sky'. The research instrument was the author himself using the help of another instrument in the form of a recording sheet. The data collection techniques used were reading and understanding the novel, conducting literature studies, determining the main character, and searching for and recording data related to the research problems contained in the novel. Data validation technique is using triangulation technique. The data analysis technique used is identifying and classifying data. Then interpret the data, and conclude the data analysis. The results of the study state (1) the forms of social conflict in Pinto Anugrah's novel Everything is Smoked by the Sky are personal conflicts, group conflicts, and conflicts within society. (2) the causes of social conflict in Pinto Anugrah's novel Everything is Sucked by the Sky are caused by differences between individuals or individuals, differences in social class, as well as differences in interests, and social change. (3) the impact of social conflict in Pinto Anugrah's novel 'Everything That Is Smoked by the Sky' includes the destruction of group unity, personality changes, and the destruction of social values and norms.

Abstract

The research aims to describe: first, the personality of the main character in Okky Madasari's novel Maryam; second, the factors that influence the formation of the main character's personality in the novel Maryam by Okky Madasari. This type of research is literary research using descriptive methods. The data in this study are words, phrases, clauses and sentences related to the personality of the main character and in the form of a narrator who shows the personality of the main character in the novel Maryam by Okky Madasari. The data collected in this study were then analyzed with the following steps: (1) classifying the data, (2) interpreting the data and (3) making conclusions based on the research results. There are two findings in this study. First, the personality of the main character in the novel Maryam by Okky Madasari, namely (a) low self-esteem, that is, not being able to defend those they love; disappointed, angry; regret; doubt and fear, childlessness; (b) superior, namely trying to get the blessing of both parents and finding the missing family; (c) lifestyle, namely women who are beautiful, intelligent and friendly; (d) creative self, namely developing a packaged milk business and giving the name of their child originating from Lombok; (e) the apparent goal of wanting to have a happy family; (f) social interest, namely caring for Ahmadiyah victims; (2) factors that influence the formation of Maryam's personality, namely (1) genetic factors (innate), and (2) community environmental factors, (3) family environment. The dominant factor is the environmental factor of society and family.

Abstract

This study aims to describe: (1) the structure of the folklore of the Batu Batikam legend in Jorong Dusun Tuo, Limo Kaum District, Tanah Datar District. (2) the social function of the folklore of the Batu Batikam legend in Jorong Dusun Tuo, Limo Kaum District, Tanah Datar Regency. This type of research is literary research with descriptive methods. The background, entries, and presence of the researcher is the folklore of the Batu Batikam legend in Jorong Tuo Hamlet, Limo Kaum District, Tanah Datar Regency. Quotations were collected from informants through two stages, namely (1) the recording stage of the Batu Batikam legend folklore (2) the transcription and transliteration stages. (3) data validation stage. (4) data analysis stage. Data was taken by note-taking techniques, observations and interviews. The results of this study are: 1) the structure of the folklore of the legend of Batu Batikam in Jorong Dusun Tuo, Limo Kaum District, Tanah Datar Regency which is divided into, (a) style of language, which is used in the Minangkabau language Ba-tusangkar dialect (b) characters and characterizations, the character Dt. Parpatiah Nan Sabatang and Dt. Katumangguangan (c) setting, place setting in Jorong Tuo Hamlet, Limo Kaum District, Tanah Datar Regency. The time setting is not certain, it is only estimated in ancient times (d) the plot used is advanced (e) the theme, which uses the presence of sacred stones as a symbol of peace and belief in the Minangkabau people. (f) mandate, no matter how serious the problem with anyone is not to hurt other people or injure other people. 2) the social function of the legend of Batu Batikam folklore in Jorong Dusun Tuo, Limo Kaum District, Tanah Datar Regency, which is divided into, (a) entertaining, this story is entertainment for people who are resting, (b) educates, Batu Batikam folklore, this story becomes teaching for many people (c) pass on, this folklore is passed on to children of the next generation (d) identity. For the Limo Kaum people, the legend of batu batikam serves as a social image that reflects cultural norms as well as an effort so that the people there always adhere to these norms.

Abstract

This article aims: (1) to describe the forms of emotion of the main character in the novel Harga Sebuah Percaya by Tere Liye Liye, (2) to describe the causes of the main character's emotions in the novel Harga Sebuah Percaya By Tere Liye Liye's, and (3) to describe the emotional impact the main character in the novel Harga Sebuah Percaya By Tere Liye. The Type of Research used in literary research with descriptive methods. The subject used in this study is the novel Harga Sebuah Percaya by Tere Liye. Based on the research, it was found that there are 2 forms of the main character's emotions in Tere Liye's Novel Price of a Belief, namely positive emotions and negative emotions. Positive emotions consisting of joy and happiness, cuteness, serenity, awe, hope and love. Negative emotions consist of disappointment, sadness, fear and anger. Factors that cause the main character's emotions are biological creatures, natural events, sounds and vibrations, attitudes and behavior and situations and conditions. The impact of the main character's emotions is to strengthen the spirit and interfere with social adjustment.

Abstract

The existence of Minangkabau culture, language and oral literature seems to have started to change from time to time. This is due to the extraordinary influence of the times that is felt by the younger generation. The portrait of Minangkabau men in the Sabai Nan Aluih manuscript by Wisran Hadi contains meaning and life lessons that can be taken, one of which is that the role of men in Minangkabau must have principles in deciding issues so that there is no confusion. The aims of this research are, (1 ) The roles of the characters in the drama script Sabai Nan Aluih by Wisran Hadi, (2) The characters in the drama script Sabai Nan Aluih by Wisran Hadi, (3) Portraits of Minangkabau men in the drama script Sabai Nan Aluih by Wisran Hadi. The type of research used is literary research using descriptive analytical methods. This kind of research technique in literary criticism is called descriptive qualitative. The data source for this research is the drama script Sabai Nan Aluih by Wisran Hadi published by Balai Pustaka 1982. The research instrument is the researcher himself as the main instrument who sees, reads, understands, identifies, and records matters relating to the portrait of the Kaba Man in Manuscript of Sabai Nan Aluih by Wisran Hadi. The results of the study show that (1) the character who plays a role in the drama script of Sabai Nan Aluih is Rajo Babandiang who is none other than the father of Sabai Nan Aluih, (2) the characters that stand out in the story of this drama script are: (a) firm, ( b) wise, (c) compassionate, (d) arrogant, (e) cowardly, (3) portraits of Minangkabau male figures which can be interpreted in this study are in their positions as penghulu/mother, as father, and as urang sumando .
