Abstract

Abstract

The creativity of the Balinese people who combined new tourism trends with Balinese traditions, a new habit was formed, namely Melukat tradition. Currently, Melukat tradition has become an interfaith tourism trend in Bali, many non-Hindu tourists believe in what Hindus believe, by following the procession of the Melukat tradition itself. This phenomenon are based on the data from visitors who follow the Melukat tradition which has increased from year to year. This research aims to find out what factors influence tourists' decisions to follow the Melukat tradition as a spiritual tourism attraction. These factors are based on the theory of Kotler and Keller (2009), factors including culture, social factors, personal factors and psychological factors which become benchmarks for tourist behavior or decisions. The research method used is quantitative. The data collection techniques used were questionnaires and observation. The sampling technique used was Accidental Sampling, with a sample size of 100 respondents. The data analysis techniques used are simple regression, partial test (t test), simultaneous test (f statistical test). The results show the factors that influence tourists' decisions to carry out the melukat tradition or ceremony are cultural factors, social factors, personal factors, and psychological factors. The most dominant factors are influenced by psychological factors and those that are not dominant are cultural factors.

Abstract

The implementation of the Circular Economy (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recovery, and Repair) in Indonesia is having difficulties, various problems still arise, especially related to readiness to change behavior patterns. Gap research from various sources indicates that building awareness from the end user aspect is important for more in-depth investigation, especially related to the motivators and obstacles to implementing a circular economy. As agents of change, the younger generation is one group concerned about implementing circular economy practices. The younger generation is the ideal basis for becoming agents of change who play the role of players as well as consumers of the future. This research is intended to investigate to what extent the role of the younger generation (attitudes, norms, intentions, behavior) can be a trigger factor for strengthening the role as agents of change (willingness to participate). This research involved 253 young people from various regions in Indonesia. Through SEM-LISREL analysis to test the modeling, several interesting things were found, namely: 1) intention and behavior are strong determinants of forming awareness to participate in becoming agents of change that support positive attitudes to implement circular economy practices, 2) there are indications the poor aspect of the norm to encourage agents of change. The findings can complete the research gap that changes the role of the younger generation to be accelerators of Circular Economy practices in the future.

Abstract

Indonesia has a population of 270 million people and will face tough challenges in obtaining Sustainable Development Goals, especially related to Responsible Consumption and Production (RCP). The Indonesian government created a National Action Plan to achieve sustainable consumption and production patterns, namely increasing economic welfare, reducing resource use, and improving quality of life. To accelerate the call for RCP, encouraging the role of the younger generation to participate in implementing the best of green economic practices is the right strategy. This research is intended to get an overview of the extent to which the younger generation wants to participate from a behavioral angle (green economy consumers). Respondents involved in the study were 229 young people from various regions in Indonesia. Interesting results were obtained from the research model, indicating that intention strongly influences behavior and impacts willingness to participate using the SEM-Lisrel analysis. However, the awakening of intentions among the younger generation is mostly influenced by positive attitudes, while the norms and perceptions do not show strong indications of their influence. These findings form a strong basis for the development of behavioral research that can answer the research gap involving the younger generation to act as green consumers in a proven way. The younger generation can be environmentally responsible consumers by using eco-friendly products.

Abstract

The growing focus on sustainability in the food service industry aligned with global environmental objectives, particularly in tourism cities where restaurants significantly impacted ecological systems. This study explored the implementation of sustainable practices—Sustainable Sourcing Ingredients (SSI), Waste Management Practices (WMP), and Energy Efficiency Measures (EEM)”in eco-friendly restaurants across Jakarta, Bandung, and Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT), Indonesia. Using the Importance-Performance Map (IPM), the research identified key factors influencing customer perceptions of sustainability and examined how the overall customer experience moderated this relationship. Findings revealed that while SSI was a strength due to its alignment with customer values, WMP and EEM lagged in performance despite their importance. Customer Experience (CE) emerged as a critical yet underperforming factor, significantly influencing sustainability perceptions and customer loyalty. Recommendations included improving waste management strategies, enhancing energy efficiency communication, and creating memorable customer experiences to align with eco-conscious expectations. This study provided actionable insights for restaurant operators, policymakers, and stakeholders in fostering sustainable food service management while preserving tourism ecosystems in Indonesia.

Abstract

Sustainable practices in the food service industry are gaining prominence in tourism-driven Indonesian cities like Jakarta, Bandung, and Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara), where restaurants significantly impact the environment. Therefore, this study examines sustainable practices in food service management by exploring eco-friendly restaurants in Indonesia's tourism cities through a quantitative research approach. An online questionnaire was distributed, collecting responses from 257 participants to assess the impact of Sustainable Sourcing Ingredients, Waste Management Practices, and Energy Efficiency Measures on Customer Perception, with Customer Experience acting as a moderate variable. The results show that sustainable sourcing, waste management, and energy efficiency significantly influence customer perception of eco-friendly restaurants. Customer experience further strengthens these relationships. The study emphasizes the need for better communication and transparency, suggesting tools like eco-labeling, storytelling, and digital engagement. It offers valuable insights from a developing tourism context to support sustainable food service management and promote responsible consumer behavior.

Abstract

Tourism destinations increasingly face environmental pressures resulting from growing visitor numbers, particularly in island destinations where ecological resources are highly vulnerable. Within the quality tourism paradigm, tourists are expected to act not only as consumers but also as responsible environmental stakeholders. This study empirically examines the relationships among place dependence, place identity, environmental knowledge, destination social responsibility (DSR), personal norms, and environmentally responsible behavior (ERB) among visitors to the Thousand Islands, Indonesia. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 310 tourists and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that place dependence, place identity, environmental knowledge, destination social responsibility, and personal norms all positively influence ERB, with environmental knowledge emerging as the strongest predictor. The model demonstrates substantial explanatory power (R² = 0.80). Regarding moderation effects, DSR does not significantly strengthen the relationship between place dependence and ERB, while its interaction with place identity is significant but negative, suggesting that strong emotional attachment may reduce reliance on external sustainability cues. Personal norms do not significantly moderate the relationship between environmental knowledge and ERB. By integrating established constructs from place attachment, norm activation, and sustainable tourism research within a quality tourism framework, this study contributes to understanding how cognitive, emotional, and moral factors jointly shape environmentally responsible behavior among tourists. The findings offer practical implications for destination managers seeking to encourage sustainable visitor behavior through environmental education, place-based experiences, and visible sustainability initiatives.
