Abstract

The rising popularity of traditional rituals and ceremonies globally, including in Indonesia, has sparked interest both as heritage practices passed down through generations and as contemporary subjects of study. This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of trends in the study of traditional ceremonies through a systematic literature review. However, the current abstract falls short of elucidating the specific criteria used to select the 200 articles. To address this, the study employed a systematic literature review approach, examining 200 scholarly articles on traditional ceremonies sourced from Google Scholar and Crossref databases spanning the years 2012 to 2022. The systematic literature review utilized the Publish or Perish application to gather metadata from Google Scholar and Crossref, with subsequent data visualization facilitated by the VOSviewer application. The outcomes of the study encompass three main findings: 1) Mapping clusters of study themes related to traditional ceremonies, 2) Identifying the network of authors whose works predominantly contribute to the field of traditional ceremonies, and 3) Uncovering gaps and novel aspects within the realm of traditional ceremony studies. While the abstract outlines these results, a more detailed elaboration is essential to enhance the overall depth and contribution of the study. Specifically, elucidating the criteria used for article selection and providing a more thorough explanation of the mapping clusters and identified gaps will significantly improve the clarity and impact of the research.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the practice of Mabarazanji in the Bugis Bone community reflects the division of gender roles influenced by local social and cultural constructions and examines it from an educational perspective. The research method used is a qualitative approach with the analysis of literature studies related to the practice of Mabarazanji, as well as the application of Talcott Parsons' social role theory to understand the social structure that affects gender roles in the practice. The results of the study showed that men in the practice of Mabarazanji often led and were directly involved in rituals as instrumental roles, while women were more often in supporting positions with logistical tasks as expressive roles. This reflects the division of gender roles that has been deeply rooted in the culture of the Bugis Bone community and serves to maintain stability and continuity of tradition. The conclusion of this study is that the practice of Mabarazanji not only functions as a religious ritual, but also serves as a means of reproduction of social values and the formation of individual identities based on gender roles in accordance with societal norms in the perspective of Islamic education, this is relevant because it shows how traditional and religious values can be combined in an effort to build individual character in accordance with the social and cultural goals of society. The educational implications of these findings show that education in the Bugis Bone community does not only focus on religious knowledge, but also on instilling social values that direct gender roles. However, this study also emphasizes the need for educational adaptation to achieve gender equality without sacrificing the integrity of local culture.

Abstract

The development of social media has reconfigured the dynamics of identity formation and stigma reproduction for LGBT+ youth in the conservative Indonesian context. This study aims to examine how LGBT+ youth interpret their identities and confront stigma in digital spaces, using a qualitative approach based on literature studies and a phenomenological framework. Social media, on the one hand, provides an alternative space that enables the expression of gender and sexual identities through dynamic performative practices. However, on the other hand, digital platforms also become arenas for the reproduction of symbolic power that reinforce heteronormative norms through hate speech, negative labeling, and biased algorithmic moderation. In this situation, LGBT+ youth develop resistance strategies through the formation of online communities, social campaigns, and the production of affirmative narratives. This phenomenon reflects the importance of digital agency in the process of identity emancipation, while also revealing the dilemmas of visibility and security experienced by vulnerable groups. This analysis demonstrates that social media is a complex and transformative terrain of identity politics and emphasizes the need for more inclusive policy design and digital literacy. This study contributes to the academic literature by offering a deeper understanding of LGBT+ youth's subjectivities in navigating social stigma through digital spaces in contemporary Indonesian society.

Abstract

This study analyzes the Mappano Bine tradition in Bone Regency as a communicative practice that integrates local wisdom, Islamic values, and ecological ethics. Drawing on a qualitative design with interviews, non-participant observation, and document analysis, the research examines how environmental communication is enacted through ritual performances, symbolic expressions, and collective practices. The findings indicate that Mappano Bine extends beyond agricultural celebration; it serves as a communicative act that weaves Islamic spirituality prayer, gratitude, and communal responsibility into indigenous ritual forms. These practices generate ecological consciousness and transmit environmental ethics across generations through oral narratives, ritual symbols, and communal participation. The study advances the field of environmental communication by framing Mappano Bine as a hybrid communicative model where religious and indigenous values converge to promote ecological harmony and cultural continuity. While challenges such as modernization and youth disengagement persist, the contribution lies in positioning ritual as an analytical lens for understanding the intersection of faith, culture, and ecological communication.
